  1. I had a dream last night that I got an Amiga A590 sidecar hard drive for my A500, but installing it took a lot of manual effort.  The instructions were like "solder these two jumpers together, attach this daughter board, place Capacitor C15 with the included part D7, ..."  I think I woke up before it was running.

  2. Don't forget, you need a subtitle to set yourself up for the sequel! No game (or movie or fiction book) could possibly released as an individual, independent work these days...
  3. And by mature, of course you mean "blood, boobs, and swearing" which is, of course, juvenile. There were more actual mature games in the 80s - SSI's "war sims," submarine simulators, etc. These were games that required thought and strategy.
  4. I've owned Golvellius for about ten years but never actually popped it in until today - what a cool game.  More unique and more variety than I was expected.

One of my all time favs. Not to spoil the ending (I won't), but it pretty much promises a sequel, which never materialized.

  5. I finally got around to making a custom overlay if anyone is interested. Simple but effective. It should be sized correctly (2 3/16" x 3 9/16"), and seems to work for me.

  7. I was cleaning out boxes of old gaming stuff and found a Night Stalker overlay I kept (for some reason) for 35 years. I've long since parted with my Aquarius, so if anyone wants it message me your address and I'll mail it to you.
  8. Finally got around to De-oxit'ing my 2600 paddles and I can finally play these games again. What a difference! Data Age's "Warplock" is surprisingly good.

I really like Data Age games.  If you like Warplock, try Encounter at L-5.  That was one of those $5 games that made you feel like you hit the lottery.  It's still one of my favorite 2600 games.  Makes unique use of the paddle controller too.

BITD when I bought Frankenstein's Monster,  it was my Favorite game for a long time.   (This is in response to Data Age games, etc.,  not paddle games of course 😝 )

I always thought DataAge was garbage because Air Lock was the only game for theirs I had, and it's really terrible.  It's probably my pick for "worst 2600 game."  A few years back, though, I found Encounter at L-5 and Warplock and both of those are really good.

Oh man, 6pm meeting on a Friday?  What Hawaiian big shot called for that?

LOL, just one of the people that reports to me and wanted a 1:1 before I left.  It's fine, I took it from home, it was good to catch up before i'm out.  Still...

  10. Two days of all-day training at work, and then I'm on vacation for 2 weeks! Is this the year I sit down and finish Enchanter? Doubtful, but on the radar...

  11. To bad, but totally understandable. If there's software support for USB->Ethernet adapter like Wii that'd be nice, but I get that you have to do what the majority would want vs. cost.

Cool, no worries, just wondering.  Thanks!

  14. Sold an XEGS on ebay a month ago. UPS lost the package, then found it weeks later, then shipped it back to me totally mangled (torn box, etc). Contents are all there and seemingly intact, I packed it really well. Now I have to retest and see *how* well... The buyer has been very patient, which is great, though I did offer a refund.

Is the console all right? I once had Fedex deliver my $200+ audio mixer to some guy's garage down the street. Luckily he was a good person and brought it to me.

I checked it out this morning, and everything still works!  I'm going ot refund buyer's shipping cost, but hopefully it'll be resolved. Plugging it back in and playing Necromancer again gave a little tinge of regret, though, I love that game.

  15. FWIW, I did a factory reset and the screen still cuts in and out and is full of distorted lines. Unplayable. I'm just going to return it. Too bad, seems like a nice little unit if it worked, I just don't have the time or patience to debug this further. On the plus side, I was able to get my Cauldron d64 to run in C64 Forever, so I think that's my go-to for now. I need a general USB Atari stick.
  16. Olevia 720p TV, don't have anything else with HDMI to try it with, unfortunately. When I get some free time I may restore to factory settings and see if that fixes it and update again.
  17. I installed the latest firmware today, and the screen flickers and cuts out like crazy. It was fine previously. Anyone else see this? The first thing I ran after the update was some PRG of a cracked game (90% of my images, unfortunately), so I wonder if that messed something up? Still trying to get a working version of Cauldron... FWIW, I don't mind the included joystick. I don't recall being a particularly big fan of the competition pro, but I didn't have any real problem with it, either. Hopefully it lasts, that's my main concern.
  18. I'm definitely interested if the price is right. I sold my TG-16 decades ago, and was happy to get a few games on the Wii Virtual Console when that came out. Having more games and a dedicated mini system would be pretty nice, though.
  19. Got my wife set up with a new mac mini over the weekend. As much as I grumble about some things Apple does, it was generally quite painless to get it set up and easy to fix the few things that didn't work right out of the box.

      Flojomojo

I'm more pro-Mac than most, but I wouldn't even consider one for games.

There's definitely an odd hole in their lineup. Why no minitower that can accommodate a video card and a few internal hard drives?

    2. derFunkenstein

      derFunkenstein

To me the hardware Apple sells is secondary and a necessary evil to get software from a company that isn't mining my data for monetization purposes. I'm a long-time Mac guy going back to the 90s, but their desktop hardware these days is baffling. Surely they have market research that backs what they're doing, but man, I feel underserved by the Mini in its GPU-less state.

    3. Nathan Strum

      Nathan Strum

I've used Macs professionally for over 30 years, manage several Mac-only labs, and have spent millions of our college's dollars on Apple. Up until a few years ago I was still a fan of their lineup. But not any more. Their laptops and iMacs have stagnated, and they've effectively abandoned the rest of the desktop market. All that's left is an underpowered Mini, and a Mac Pro aimed at the ultra-high-end.

Don't even get me started on the iMac "Pro".

  20. Apparently I mailed myself a cassette of my band in 1995, and I found the package the other day while cleaning. Good times!

  21. Just ordered a c64 mini for $39. My original c64 has started to lose more keyes, and SD2IEC is really cool, but only runs 50% of what I try.

    1. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

Yeah, pretty much all of the .PRGs I have (and have found) seem to have custom hack/loaders, which probably confuses the SD2IEC.

    2. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

I don't want ot come across like I'm complaining about the SD2IEC, though it was pretty cheap ($65 USD) and is a fantastic solution for the games it does run. I really enjoy having it.

Years ago someone (either here or lemon64.com) had shared a giant zip file with hundreds of c64 games... others were one-off downloads.

  23. If it could be done well on the 2600, it can be done better on the 7800. The 2600 version is pretty fun, one of my favorites back in the day.
