  1. RIP Grumpy Cat. don't think I'll tell my 10yo, though, he loves Grumpy.

I teared up a little. More than I've done for most people lately. Gotta watch her movie again soon.

I've also lost a couple of cats to urninal tract infection and it was hard each time.

Thankfully my current cat lived twice as long and is still active. His diet consists of canned patte food and dry teats (w/ tender meat inside) so it's grain free.

  2. After weeks of being stuck, I finally figured out how to escape L2 of the Obelisk in Raveloft: Stone Prophet. Felt like a bug but a certain magic item got me free whether intentional or not. Good times!

  3. I'm terrible, and I'm not really a big fan of the game. It seems more like a pattern/memorization game than a good shooter. Of course I'm in the minority there, the game is iconic and beloved. Different strokes and all that. The 7800 version is my favorite because it has a smoother difficulty ramp and I feel like I can actually do okay at it. I like that version better than the arcade.
  4. Thanks for that, that's a perfect concise summary. I do have text file version of the manual, but realistically I play one or two games of Thunder Castle ever couple of years, so even when I look it up, by the time I remember what everything is I'm done. I still may make an overlay one of these days. I think it'd be a good little project. If I ever get industrious on that I'll share here.
  5. It's been a while, but I think I made it to the 3rd dungeon (L9) once. I don't recall, maybe the 4th forest (L10). Once of these days I'm going to print a custom overlay that helps me remember which magic items are which. I play it so intermittently, I can never remember.
  6. New Tool songs being played live. Exciting times!

  7. Frustrate that I can't just bite my lower lip once. I have to bite it AGAIN every day for like a week. Usually just when it's starting to get better. So painful and frustrating. I suspect it's because I played sax in junior high, making my lips bigger. Or maybe I just eat too fast.

happens to me too. It's embarrassing when it happens at a restaurant and starts to bleed, hiding it like nothing is wrong. "Why is your fork red?" "Oh must be the ketchup" "but you're eating cake..." "..."

  8. I've never played Jinx, but after the video I actually want to.
  9. PSA: Morrowind is free today through the Bethesda store. It's in my top 5 all-time games.

Sale on GOG. My mouse hovering over this and Oblivion.

      Flojomojo

Well, free is better than $7.49, but whatever you choose, you can drop the files directly into OpenMW and play it in a more friendly environment.

@Flo: nice, I missed this. And MW is kinda impossible to run stutter-less even on a powerful rig with modern mods and textures. Wonder if this one can.

  10. So I finally started playing a game made after 1995: Minecraft. Got it for my kid, but I think it's great, too.

  11. When my work Dell laptop dock works, it's great. Unfortunately monitors random cut out every few days or so and it's an exercise in frustration unplugging and plugging to get them working again. Nothing "just works" anymore. Then again, I didn't use to have 3 monitors...

We have issues with our Thunderbolt docks. No problems with the older style docks that would latch into the bottom expansion port of older laptops.

^--yup, same, my older latching docks were rock solid.

We use Lenovo stuff where I work. the latching docks for the T4xxx laptops work fantastic. I'm not super impressed with the 'port replicators' that are being used for the T480 however.

  12. The "70s Sci Fi Art" feed is pretty much the only good use for InstaGram I've found. Otherwise, I don't really get it.

  14. Watching The Munsters with my 10 year old, and he's really enjoying it. One of the joys of being a parent I had envisioned.

Same here! Herman still cracks me up after all these years. That’s so cool you can share something like that with your kids. Who knows, maybe you can turn him on to good music from the time too... like The Ventures, Surfaris, Markett’s, The Shadows, etc.

  15. Actually got to play some c64 this weekend (original c64 + SD2IEC). My choice was Shamus. I really suck at it, but it's fun.

  16. Nintendo hasn't censored anything on their consoles for a long time. BMX XXX came out on GameCube in 2002, that was pretty much the end of the discussion. MK2 on SNES was a long time ago.
  17. The Wii is such a great gun-game system. There's a separate thread on these somewhere, but here's my top 5: Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles - my favorite light gun game ever. Dead Space: Extraction - surprisingly well done, fantastic horror/sci-fi House of the Dead 2&3 Return - really well done ports House of the Dead: Overkill - not super polished, but really cheeky and fun Medal of Honor - this is a 1st person shooter but also has a light gun mode that's fantastic I'm willing to bet Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles is awesome. I have yet to play but need to pick it up given how much I loved the first. I can't offer a personal recommendation but certainly on my radar.
  18. Pretty good yard sale haul: For $1 total I got Eagles Live in '86 2 CD set, ZZ Top Eliminator, and 2 Blues Classics CDs. Wife got 5 Harry Potter DVDs for $1 total. Son bought a digital camera for $1.

  19. I'm not aware of any other keyboard add-ons to consoles ever selling well, so I don't see how the 7800's could have. I get why there were lots of attempts, it made sense on paper, but nobody was really able to figure it out. Particularly given the popularity and plummeting prices of 8-bit home computers by the mid-80s. Tons of competition.
  20. I was pretty blown away by R-Type on the SMS when it came out. Definitely one of my favorites on the system BITD. I was eventually able to beat it with the 30 lives cheat. All that said, it's been a long time since I've played that version. I'm not sure how well I'd enjoy it now given the other options available.
  21. First, thanks for the response, Tanooki! The first SMS+GG cart on eBay was the one I was thinking about, I just happened to paste an etsy link because when I made the thread it was the first to come up and it looked pretty much like the same thing. I didn't realize there were different versions out there. Not having a GBA player I'll probably go the Everdrive route, but the GBA carts are a cheap and appealing option. I'll have to look closer at the game list.
  22. Wife and son were out of town so I watched House (1986) for the first time in decades. It held up well. I almost completely lost interest in horror movies over the last 10-20 years but this was a lot of fun.

  23. I've been getting back into the Master System lately, but I'm not sure I want to really buy a bunch of carts again. I do want to play on real hardware with real controllers and my tube TV. Anyone have experience with the Retrogate everdrive or another SD card-based solution? https://shop.retrogate.com/everdrive/master-everdrive-buy Related, has anyone tried the 100-in-1 Master System game multicarts for GBA? https://www.etsy.com/listing/553296642/100-in-1-sega-classics-for-gba-master Thanks, Vince
  24. My top 5: R-Type Phantasy Star Shinobi Rescue Mission Alex Kidd in Miracle World Lots of other great ones, though.
