  1. Listening to the Eddie Lang/Lonnie Johnson vinyl I got for Xmas. It's absolutely stellar.

Old music is the best music...

  2. Those are really cool, thanks for sharing!
  3. Two-word review: "Sh!t sandwich"
  4. Watching Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever for the first time this year. Last year we watched it 5 times. We're a bit behind this year, apparently...

Love that movie! I haven't gotten to it yet this year, but it's coming!

  5. Don't have T:ME Salvo, but here's my game of Robotron. Expert level with one stick is pretty brutal. 36,600
  6. I don't remember ever playing Gaplus. I know *of* it, but never played it. That said, Galaxian for me. Galaga always felt like a trial of memorization. "Move to this exact spot, shoot, then move here, then shoot, then move to the next spot, shoot, etc." I like the two ship thing and the cool way the aliens move, but the gameplay leaves me cold. I totally get why most people like Galaga better, though, there's certainly more going on. The 7800 version has an easier difficulty ramp so if I play Galaga, that's the version I go to if I were to play it.
  7. This popped up in my Twitter feed this morning. Interesting... http://6502.org/users/sjgray/computer/c65cc/
  8. Actually had a chance to play some games this weekend: House of the Dead 3 on Wii. Love the HotD games, but never put much time into 3. 'twas fun!

I LOVE playing two player HoD with both controllers. Dual wielding FTW

I think 2 is my favorite, but only because I know it best. The "grindhouse" one (Overkill?) was awesome, as is The Typing of the Dead. TotD is on Steam!

  9. I think a Psygnosis Flashback would be cool. Carry on.

Searching LemonAmiga's DB of Psygnosis games brings back some good memories. Menace, Shadow of the Beast (series), Carthage, Armor-Geddon (I used to haul my A500 to a friend's house to link our computers up to play Armor-Geddon multiplayer), Blood Money, Lemmings, Barbarian, Baal... so much great stuff!

I'd love an easy way to explore their Amiga stuff, but the CD-based things like Novastorm and all the Playstation games would be neat to have all in one place.

I guess I could make a little collection of my own. :-)

  10. I made a Temple of Apshai fan page. Feel free to join up! https://www.facebook.com/groups/319925718609734/

  11. Finally had a few minutes of truly free time today, took advantage and played some Temple of Apshai on the Apple 2c and Ultimate Wizard on c64.

Right on! Ultimate Wizard is the best!

  12. Yeah, that's my feeling as well. Of all the "mini" console/computer/game system releases, the PC makes the least sense because modern PCs can pretty much play all the same games with the same interface (mouse/kbd). The experience of a modern pc is pretty much exactly the same, unlike playing console games on an emulator. GOG.com nicely handles this for me in a cheap and hassle-free way.
  13. When my family got a c64 we had a 1541 with it, so I'm thinking the first peripheral we bought separately was a Commodore printer. We might have gotten that at the same time, I don't recall. We did end up getting an Okimate 10 a couple years later as well - COLOR PRINTING!!!!!! The first real "upgrade" was probably a 512k ram card for my Amiga 500.
  14. For whatever reason, this is a game I never saw back in the 80s. I got a chance to play it this weekend (SD2IEC) and really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be coming back for more. Totally agree, I don't know the history but they're really, really similar. It would be very ... strange... if they were truly independently developed.
  15. I've been looking for a good, game-focused Amiga podcast. I'll check it out!
  16. The box art is the best part of Dark Chambers. Deeply disappointing game for me. It's not unplayable, it's just totally lacking any kind of fun factor. Different strokes and all that...
  17. I always liked Vanguard as well. I got a 2600 used from a friend back in the early-mid 80s - I traded him a box of pirated Apple 2 floppies for his 2600 setup - and Vanguard was one of the handful of games I got with it. I played it so much on my little black and white TV. I dig the 5200 version as well. Porting games from one console to another is not insignificant. I'm sure you could take *some* of the code over, but there would be a lot of rewriting from scratch. Add it to the big pile of "games we'd love to see."
  18. Things I've done as a parent I could never have foreseen: "just searched ebay for Strawberry Shortcake comics."

If I recall, modern SBSC is significantly less awful than when we were kids. I might be conflating it with some Pony stuff, it all kinda runs together in my mind, but I seem to recall that even the modern Barbie show is a bit snarky and self-aware.

I recently did the same for Archie. Strangely, I'm as much excited about getting them as my daughter
