  1. I'll keep an eye out - my wife and I *just* watched the first Johnny English a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty funny.
  2. Actually doing some 7800 programming for the first time in... *checks file dates* a year!

Got an enemy up on the screen, cycling through 4 frames and moving around. It's a step in the right direction. Player moves and fires, collision detection works... it's a long ways to "finished" though. Need more free time!

Free time is easy to get: just quit yer job.

Now, paid time, on the other hand, so that you can spend it on your hobbies and still be able to pay your bills -- now, that's a b*tch. ;)

  3. Watching The Elvira Show on Youtube. She's great. I miss when horror shows and movies were fun and didn't take themselves to seriously.

LOL! I don't know about recently, but even in her 60s a few years ago, Elvira still looked as hot & awesome as ever! Oooh!

When I was a kid and visited my grandfather in Chicago we used to watch Svengoolie together. I distinctly remember seeing the Mole People, or attack of the Mole Men, or something like that... it's a very nice memory. Loved those shows. Munsters, Adams Family... all good!

It seems to me a syndicated show like that would really do well...Even if there was a new Tales from the Crypt or Tales from the Darkside type show, that would also do well I bet...

  4. Panzer Dragoon Saga for Saturn cost me around $120, but I sold it for the same or just a little more a few years later after I'd played it and was unloading part of my collection.
  5. IMHO Galaga is underrated. It get slagged for the graphics not being arcade-perfect, but they're still pretty good and imho the gameplay is better than the arcade. Smoother difficulty ramp and it doesn't feel quite so "stiff," although all the key elements are there. As everyone else said, there isn't much in the way of "hidden gems" on the 7800. Maybe some of the homebrews...
  6. The family got an Intellivision around '81, I remember playing Horse Racing, Basketball, and Poker & Blackjack with my dad.
  7. I always liked the circular dissolve at the start/end of levels in Load Runner, that was cool.
  8. I'm not really a hockey fan, but everything I know about hockey I learned from NHL '94 on the Genesis. I definitely enjoyed Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel on the NES. I went through a brief phase of paying attention to hockey in the early 00s due to a friend, so I played a bit of one of the NHL games on the Dreamcast an it was fun, but I wasn't a big enough fan to play much. I like one of the NHL Hitz games on the Gamecube as well.
  9. Another big thank you! I only typed in a handful of games from Compute, so while a lot of the names ring a bell i haven't actually played most of these.
  10. I've never been very good at Centipede, even worse with a stick but nice to get started on a new HSC anyways... Standard: 41,355 Expert: 26,816
  11. Slowly (1-2 songs at a time) watching Rush's R40 concert on DVD. It's awesome, I should have gone to see it live when they were touring.

  12. I dislike how when one company makes ugly UI decisions everyone else seems to pile on. Come on, Chrome, you're better than that.

Oh, the sudden Android switch to the "light" theme is also mostly unwelcome. It it was a choice, sure, but c'mon

  13. Got a chance to spend some quality time with Ultima IV this morning and the game is starting to open up. I get why it's received the high praise! Still only a few hours in but I'm really digging it.

  14. FWIW, the one I have are Compute's Apple Applications. As noted, two of them have the month/year on the cover and one is just "Spring/Summer." Not sure if they actually changed to monthly at some point or if they just changed how they're labelled. I subscribed to Compute! but bought Apple Applications at the newsstand a few times when I got my //c. Good luck, CaptainBreakout, I hope you find the game!
  15. Sorry, nope, no Mosquito Madness. I have: Spring/Summer '87 (Biker Dave, Picture Maker) Dec '87 (Vulcan Mines, ProDesk, The Clipper, Numbers Construction Set) Feb '88 (Laser Chess, Disk Alarm) I always enjoy reading through computer magazines from the 80s. I don't know how I was able to keep them all these years but I'm glad I did.
  16. I think I have one or two issues, probably from around '88 but I don't know exactly. I don't recall seeing Mosquito Madness but I'll double check.
  17. Can anyone recommend a good, solid, reliable UPS? The cheapo APC unit I bought a year ago is garbage, even after a brand new battery. It jsut shuts off with any kind of power fluctuation, let alone outtage.

      My CyberPower is a 1500PFCLED. Best <$200 I ever spent! :D

Thanks, I'll take a look at those. Hard to gauge from Amazon reviews.

Look at NewEgg for some more tech-savvy reviews.

I need a new home UPS, I haven't replaced ours in too many years. The batteries in these consumer products shouldn't be expected to last more than 3 years without needing replacement.

  18. I don't do fast food often, but when I do it's Culver's. Really good veggie burger, and the flavor of the day custard is always fun. Cappuccino cookie crumble is just incredible.

@Reaperman I was really surprised to find out how much CUlver's has expanded. I hadn't been there in 30 years, but I discovered a location in Austin, and several Orlando (where I currently am). @GoldLeader - the veggie burger isn't usually on the menu but if you ask for it they'll make it. It's solid!

      We've got a Culver's but I haven't been there in years...Last time I had a grilled cheese :) ... I try anywhere with a veggie burger though!

I like their cheese curds. There's no Culver near me for hours, which is just as well -- not a healthy choice!

  19. Looking to play through an Ultima game - other than Akalabeth on iOS and 5-10 minutes each of Ultima III & IV, I've never played them. Reocmmendations? I'm inclined to start with an earlier one because it won't be as big a time commitment.

Although arguably worse maybe the console versions would work better for tablet touch controls.

I'll be playing via GOG.com, so any of the PC versions I-VII are options. Sounds like IV is a good one, I know I've booted it before, multiple times. Probably haven't played more than 10 minutes total.

I would begin with III because IV makes more sense after playing III.

  20. Austin is the happiest place on earth: great music 24x7, great food, great beer. Not sure I'd want to live here but it sure is fun to visit on work trips.

Austin is pretty sweet! I have a friend who used to live there...And we played there once.

  21. Check out the Eaten By A Grue podcast, it's great. I never made it more than 10 minutes into a text adventure, but a few months ago i got a ways into Enchanter. I definitely want to get back to it and finish it, i'm really enjoying that one and so far the puzzles haven't been too bad... other than I'm currently stuck. Might have to use a hint to get back on track.
  22. Actually got to play some games for a few minutes day - got farther in Strahd's Possession, and started my Temple of Apshai character back on on the //c. RPGs are the best, I just need a lot more free time.
