  1. As for the characters themselves, I like Mario a little bit better. As for the games, Mario by a mile.
  2. That was pretty awesome. Where did that clip even fit in with the story. Weird.
  3. I JUST got that game a couple weeks ago. Honestly, I hadn't heard of it, so when I saw it I definitely picked it up. I played on default and found it lacking - there's basically no way to die, and when you clear all the blocks nothing happens. I guess you need to play one of the higher variations? I discovered Encounter at L-5 earlier in the year and really dug it. Xonox's Ghost Manor was always a favorite. Not that rare, but not a 'household name' type of game, either.
  4. I didn't think the list was all that bad. There have certainly been worse. Obviously lots of omissions, but kind of expected. I guess that's the thing - my expectations for a video game "top 100" list are so low if it's hard to be too disappointed. Bioshock at #3 is a joke, though. It was a good game for sure, and probably deserving of the top 100, but come on.
  5. Don't normally vote for games I don't own (and therefore I have to play on an emulator), but since it's unlikely there will be a Meteorites cart in my future I figured I might as well give it a shot. Hopefully I'll have more time with this one than I've had lately...
  6. I no longer have an ST (and never owned a Jag), so just clicked on this thread on a whim - wow, awesome job. That looks pretty amazing.
  7. Got another game in: 30,480. I'll upload a pic when I get a chance.
  8. Been busy lately, only had a chance to squeeze in a couple games: 15,275.
  9. Wife is taking the 3 year old out of town Saturday and Sunday. It's Atari (and sci-fi movie) time!

Two things: Hug and kiss the wife and the 3 year old until you can't do it anymore - little ones are too precious to miss those things! and then ... PARTY ON, DUDE! Make time for Spacehunter!!! The Overdog will not be pleased if you don't!

  10. I'll second that. Everything just seem so...underwhelming. I can certainly say that I've played with my DC much more frequently than my 360 over the last year! I play my 5200 a lot more than my 360!
  11. 1st Generation: Intellivision - so many of my favorite games of the era. Hard to vote against the 2600, but I like the Inty a bit better. 2nd gen: 5200 - love the 5200 - great library of games. 3rd gen: SMS - love the Master System - tons of quirky originals 4th gen: Genesis (Sega CD, 32X) - love the Genny, huge library 5th gen: PlayStation - huge library, tons of 'retro game' packages 6th gen: GameCube - hard to vote against the DC, and the Xbox and PS2 had bigger libraries, but with the GC I get Phantasy Star Onlien (my favorite game of all time), and a pretty solid library all around. 7th gen: PS3 - not a big fan of this generation in general, but I like Sony's 1st party offerings best, so that clinches it. Plus, PS2 compatibility if I have an older model. 8th gen: ???
  12. I like the NES toaster. The NES top loader is pretty awful. Not because of the system itself, but the way it looks with the giant carts sticking out. They weren't designed (visually) to be sitting like that and it looks weird. I never liked the look of the original PlayStation. Top loading CD drive and giant buttons.
  13. To be clear, I do like digital downloads of games for iOS/portable systems and computer games. For console games I just can't get into it. I've bought a fair amount of XBLA/VC games but it seems like they could go away at any second, and I know the systems won't last forever. On the other hand, I have no desire to carry around a pocket full of cartridges. For a portable system, digital download is definitely the way to go.
  14. To me it already did. I just don't care about modern games anymore. I haven't played a game on my 360 in ages, and the only time I turn on my Wii is for my kid to play Mean Bean Machine on the VC. There wasn't a single game in any of the E3 press conferences that I thought I even *might* buy. Lots of dudes running around shooting stuff - zombies, terrorists, criminals, soldiers... zombie terrorist criminal soldiers... I just don't care about it anymore. I've shot my share of soldiers and zombies over the last 30 years, and I'm done. Most of it is that I just want to spend my time doing other things, although I will carve out a few minutes here and there for the 5200 HSC or some other retro gaming. Just a different phase of life, I guess, and different priorities. I have such precious little free time I'm extremely careful what I do with it. I was on the iOS bandwagon for a while, but my wife took my iTouch to use with the 3 year old so I don't even play that any more. On top if it, the move towards everything being subscriptions and DLC turns me off. Fortunately, there are a billion retro games to satisfy the itch when I do want to play a game. Is the industry dying? I don't think so. It's certainly changing, but there are still a lot of games being sold.
  15. Yeah, but just it's cheating at a video game so who cares (as long as it's not online, then cheaters just suck all around)? If it makes it more fun for you, enjoy. I like using my NES Advantage turbo on some games.
  16. The local Game Traders at Flea World has all their 8 bit carts buy 2, get 1 free, with pre-crash games all $1/each. They had three 2600 games on the lower shelf marked $9.99 each: Blueprint, James Bond 007, and GI Joe Cobra Strike. I also found an Image's No Escape. I asked if they were all b2g1 and he said "well, no, those three are marked separate but I'll give you all four for $10." Seemed like a good deal: $2.50 each for four games I didn't have.
  17. Got 4 loose 2600 carts for $10: No Escape, James Bond 007, Blueprint and GI Joe Cobra Strike. THe last three were marked $10 each, but he gave me the whole lot for $10. Score!

Nice score. I never played James Bond but Cobra was always fun.

  18. Real hardware w/ Best Electronics 5200 stick unless it's a game I don't own, then I'll use an emulator. With no joystick for my computer it kind of sucks (and I'm not a big fan of playing emulated to begin with). I'm okay with using whatever sticks you have for the 5200. If I owned a Comp Pro, I'd probably use it. I totally get that some games are the same on both systems so there isn't much of a functional difference (other than the array of controllers available for A8s), so I understand why it's allowed, it more just feels weird. This HSC is about the 5200 and it's sleek, black, underappreciated glory! Anyways, just my 2c.
  19. I know I've played it, but I don't own it - not sure if I rented or if a friend of mine had it. I remember it being pretty fun.
  20. I started working on a 5200 homebrew project, but that was years ago and after I got my sprites up moving around I haven't had time to do anything with it. Otherwise, I've worked on GBA, ps2, xbox, gamecube, psp, xbox 360, ps3, and wii, and a 68000-based coin-op platform similar to the Genesis. If I won the lottery I'd finish my 5200 game and try something on the Inty.
  21. I sold my A500 on Craiglist, and threw in my loose A1000 for free with the deal. It was given to me, and while it powered up last time I checked (years ago), I never had a kickstart disk so I could never really use it.
  22. I love that there are full, hour+ 70s Black Sabbath concerts on Youtube.

  23. Can anyone get good at Gauntlet? I like the game, don't get me wrong, but it's pretty much a war of attrition of how many quarters you have. I never really saw any way to get particularly good at the game. Unlike, say, Defender which is ridiculously hard but some people are good enough to play for hours on end.
  24. Berzerk. The 5200 HSC just reminded me of that. I really enjoy the game, but I'm terrible at it.
  25. I love me some Vanguard. Not my favorite port, but I still enjoy the game. Hopefully I can turn in a respectable performance this round...
