  1. I usually get a little something game-related every year. This year I ordered a couple of 5200 carts I wanted from atari2600.com - River Raid (CIB), Galaxian (CIB), Buck Rogers (loose) and Space Dungeon (loose). Nothing super rare or anything, but all games I wanted.
  2. There are a lot of home versions of games I like better than the arcade originals. For the 2600: Space Invaders (love the game variations, plays very similarly) Berzerk (looks great and has a better difficulty ramp up for me) Circus Atari (color graphics and plays great) The question isn't "how accurate is the 2600 version compared to the arcade" it's "do you like it better than the arcade." To me that's part of the charm of the 8 bit arcade ports - each version had its own charm, it's own interpretation of the original.
  3. Didn't own one at the time, but I did use an Apple ][ Plus. I wrote my first computer program in 1983 - I was 10 years old and my brother showed me the basics of Applesoft BASIC. I remember scrolling my name (10 print "Hello", 20 goto 10 type of stuff) at the computer lab my mom worked in at a local community college. My family got a c64 and 1541 a year or two later. I still have that system.
  4. Nope. Even the consoles I didn't play much or didn't like much for one reason or another had at least one game that made it worthwhile. I can't believe some of the systems people say they hate. There are great games out there.
  5. It's also my favorite game of all time: Phantasy Star Online. It's just endlessly playable - the random levels, the graphics and music, the variety of weapons and items, the mags. It has everything, but despite all that stuff, if you strip it down to the very basic mechanic of hitting enemies with the three-hit, timing-based attacks - that's fun and that's why I love it.
  6. Very nice find! I actually read the book a couple of years ago, it was pretty good, too.
  7. Miner 2049er Berzerk Sinistar Star Wars Arcade I wonder if there's a good way to track score in Adventure 2? AFAIK there's no timer or score or anything, but it's such a great game.
  8. I was a huge fan of Mastertronic's c64 stuff. They were budget games, but they were usually really, really good. Even if every game on the disk wasn't great, you were pretty much guaranteed one gem on there. I was never disappointed, anyways. So without further ado... Kane is one of my favorite c64 games of all times. Odd, since generally I have no interest in Westerns.
  9. That's great - I always loved MAD & Cracked. I used to get the latter a lot more often, though.
  10. I'm going to roll with the obvious and vote Shenmue, because I loved the first two on the DC and I still want to take Lan Di out.
  11. One hundred ten percent "Heck yeah!" I'd love a new Atari-related magazine.
  12. My family had an Intellivision, but our neighbords had a 2600. It never really felt like the odd man out, because we could now play both systems' games! Later on, I had an NES but I went to a friend of a friend's house and he had a Master System. Needless to say, I thought it was awesome and ended up getting one for myself eventually. He might have felt like the odd man out with his SMS, but it wasn't for lack of great games!
  13. NES Gyruss is a really cool version of the game!

    1. SoulBlazer

      SoulBlazer

Very different then the arcade game, but yes, I agree it's quite fun. :)

  14. I posted this in the Official Thrift Finds thread, but it's too cool not to share here. I picked up both Diner and Motocross (loose) for a buck apiece at Flea World last weekend. I've gotten some good deals there before, but this definitely takes the cake. Diner is an awesome game. Glad I can finally add it to my collection. I also picked up a few more common games I didn't have (Sea Battle, Boxing, etc) as well as some good deals on non INTV games (Solar Storm for 2600 for $1 is a pretty nice find).
  15. Change the company's name back to Infogrammes... ...and let Curt use the Atari name and IP!
  16. XEGS and high-end ST of some sort. XEGS - the best 8-bit software. ST because I only owned one a short time, but there are a lot of great 16-bit computer games I could spend a lot of time with. As a computer there's a lot more software I could use today on the ST than A8s. I'm not super familiar with all the ST variants, but I'd lean towards one w/ a hard drive and faster processor to make computing more usable, even if it means some games aren't compatible. I'd have to research which model best suits my needs. Tempted to go 7800 for 2600 compatibility plus extras, but the A8 software is such high quality - the arcade ports are as good or better, plus all the computer titles. Plus I can add a disk drive and get more games.
  17. Awesome, congrats. What a great machine.
  18. Never owned or played Super Mario Brothers 3. Big fan of the 2d Mario games, but when 3 came out I was playing a lot of SMS and got a Genny shortly thereafter.
  19. Wow, Diner for a dollar! Nice score, that's one of the INTV games I still need, and loose copies usually go for $25 or more. I usually find reasonable prices at Flea World, but that's by far the best deal I've seen there in a long time. Can't wait to play it! Several years ago it seemed like all the game dealers were individually pricing pre-crash games. This year they started just marking everything $1.
  20. Great day at Flea World today. I browsed one of the newer shop, rolling my eyes at $15 SMB3 when I came across an "everything $1" rack at the back, so I picked up all this for $9 (Inty Diner, Motocross, Sea Battle, Boxing and Armor Battle; 2600 Solar Storm and Armor Ambush; CIB SMS F-16 Fighting Falacon; and CIB 7800 Ballblazer). I also got buy 2 get 1 free NES games at a different store - Burgertime, Gyruss and Mach Rider. Nothing super special, but I've been looking for each of those. Total $13.
