  1. See the original, it's great. Skip Tron: Legacy - it's crap on a stick, deep fried. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. Terrible writing, terrible acting. Great special effects, but that's it.
  2. Friday afternoon meetings at work are okay when there's free beer!

    1. Melissa Melville

      Melissa Melville

      I couldn't agree more.

  3. Reminds me of "DSW Show Warehouse" which is really "Discount Shoe Warehouse Shoe Warehouse."
  4. My wife and I watch that on DVD all the time - I love the show, although I do agree it went downhill the last few seasons (like most sitcoms). The Pong episode was great, but I don't remember if the brand was ever actually shown. I think it's probably mostly that the 2600 really came to prominence and mainstream appeal in the early 80s.
  5. Only had a chance to play a couple of games. Hopefully I'll get some more time in over the coming weeks. Breakout: 98 Progressive: 356 Oh, and apparently I really suck at Super Breakout...
  6. My family had an Intellivision , and we relied on our neighbors for the occasional Atari fix. Somewhere around 84 a friend of mine got an Apple 2 and I ended up trading him a pile of pirated disks for his 2600 setup (he didn't really want it anymore after getting a computer). Great deal for me because I got basically a free system and I remember picking up cheap games being closed-out at Kay Bee Toys due to the crash. Wish I had bought more!!! I loved my Intellvision, but there were a lot of 2600 games I wanted to play as well so it was great to have both systems. I had a black and white TV in my room and had a blast with the 2600 - I still have that specific console even though it died on me a while back. I kept it mostly for nostalgic reasons, but also because it had a red stripe around the switches rather than orange, and it's the only one I've seen like that. I doubt it was anything special, but I'd since acquired many 2600s and I'd never seen another one with the red stripe.
  7. Not nearly as much as I used to. Modern games have completely lost their appeal. I haven't played a game on my 360 or Wii in ages (although I did fire up the Wii when my niece & nephew visited and played with them a bit). I don't have tons of time for classic games, either, but I like the 5200 and Inty high score clubs so I'll play one of those every few weeks. In total I might play a classic console game once a week or so, if I'm lucky. I do play games on my iTouch fairly often, but it's usually really quick, like waiting in a doctor's office or something. I don't put lots of time in it. A couple times a year I might get the itch to play a computer game - whether it's on my iMac, Apple 2 or Amiga.
  8. Had time to squeeze in two games today and came away with 24,810. Man, I'm rusty... :/
  9. White "EA Games" Xbox - approximately 500 were made to commemorate EA supporting Xbox live. Includes 2 matching controllers:
  10. Wow, that's amazing. I'd love to see someone hit 100, I didn't really even think it was possible.
  11. Only had time for a couple quick games. D&D Maze was always my favorite, but I forgot how tricky it was! Football: 49 Space Battle: 69 Sub Hunt: 29 Maze: 36
  12. I think it'd be Atari - those late 80s Atari coin-ops were awesome and it would have given Atari a big edge for their home consoles.
  13. Really, Sinistar? It feels to me that it's a direct port of the A8 game, with very 'digital'-feeling controls. It's difficult to do any fine movements at all. That was my understanding from the Sinistar thread as well. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but I think it could be a lot better with finer controls. I'm not asking to be a jerk, it just really seemed to me that Sinistar does NOT use the analog controls at all.

  15. This is somewhat off-topic, but since you mentioned Microsoft Office: I'm very familiar with the newest Office applications (I teach them at my university in one of my introductory classes), but for most people, I don't think there have been any worthwhile features added to Office since Office '97. There seems to be an "80/20 rule" for Office: about 20% of the population needs advanced features such as VBA and the Office API, which pretty much require the latest versions of Microsoft Office. The other 80% would be just as well off saving their money and sticking with an older version: they've all been extensively patched, and any remaining glitches are pretty well-known. OpenOffice is another viable alternative, but there are certain things that it doesn't do as well as Office (such as label printing), and it's such a bloated bastard that it's frustratingly slow if your hardware isn't fairly new. Yeah, my wife complains with every new version of Office apps that she has to go and relearn where everything is and how it all works. I started using OpenOffice on my studio Mac (because MS won't let me run the same install of office apps on both of our computers at the same time) and it's been pretty solid so far. Haven't really explored it other than the spreadhseet but I'm definitely happy with it as a casual user.
  16. Missile Command of course! Great port and plays wonderfully w/ the analog stick. I also enjoy how the main forum page abbreviates this thread title to "Game that made use of the anal..."
  17. This is it for me. I don't mind the Inty controllers at all - certainly more comfortable than the stock Colecovision and 7800 Proline controllers. Those side buttons are a little painful, though. Other than that they've always worked great for me in pretty much any genre of game.
  18. I've been thinking about getting a 100 or 102 as well. They seem like fun little machines.
  19. I always liked this game - i'll have to make some time for a few rounds.
  20. It's pretty good. Absolutely worth watching and enjoyable, but maybe not quite as good as I was hoping. They spent a lot of time talking about new text adventures, and talking to fans of the genre. That's cool, but it seemed to come at the expense of talking in depth about a lot of Infocom classics (and other companies' games). It definitely gave me an appreciation for the size of Zork, and made me not feel so bad about never finishing the game. It's discussed pretty well in this thread: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/168985-get-lamp/page__p__2089839__hl__getlamp__fromsearch__1#entry2089839
  21. I kind of like the phone-style keypad inputs. It was pretty flexible and I thought it added the ability to get deep without making complexity a central part of the control scheme. However, the biggest reason those controllers get bagged on is really a question of ergonomics - that "long" style of controller you hold the base and press the side buttons with one hand while you use the other hand for the stick just isn't comfortable. That type of pressure on your hands creates cramps. None of them are as bad as the ProLines, and that has no keypad. The CV Super Action Controller has the keypad on top, you hold it differently, and it's super comfortable. Nobody complains about that one.
  22. Including a few classic computers for good measure: Inty: AD&D: Treasure of Tarmin C64: Stuart Smith's Adventure Construction Kit Apple 2: Might & Magic Amiga: Dungeon Master NES: Dragon Warrior SMS: Phantasy Star SNES: Final Fantasy III N64: Paper Mario Saturn: Panzer Dragoon Saga Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia GameCube: Phantasy Star Online (I would have picked it for DC, too, but this way SoA gets a nod) Xbox: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic PS2: Final Fantasy X (sue me, I liked it)
  23. Just get a regular Coleco Super Action Controller - the stick you hold sort of like a pistol. It's super comfortable and increased my enjoyment of the VC 1000 fold. The stock controllers are awful, imho, but the Super Action Controllers are great.
