Arcade 2600

7800 might require too much HP for running off a 9v. It's rated @ 1000ma. It may play ok in 2600 mode running off a 9v, but in 7800 mode you may see either a short battery life or messed up graphics or the like. It would be cool though!

ROTFLMAO!!! Now if we could find someone who surfs with a stone tablet, hammer, and chisel.....

2600 video takes a LONG time to warm up - Suggestions?

Try a different power supply, or check/replace the voltage regulator. Radio Shack has replacements that are fairly inexpensive. Just make sure to get a 7805 (+5) and you should be fine. This is a good place to start diagnosing VCS woes. Ditto on checking the CAPs. You'll know if you have a bad one (most of the time) just by looking at it. Hope it helps. -
I'd like to see the internals of the system. Does anyone know of anyone who has one and is willing to open it up and post pics? My guess is that it will be just a pcb with a couple of epoxy blobs, but who knows? It would be cool if it is hackable. If it's NES-on-a-chip, it may be able to run NES roms if there were a way to hack in a slot or other interface.

New - The awesome attract mode of Starfire! Old - The easter egg in Adventure. In-between - Defender II (aka Stargate) all I can say is WOW! That game looks great all over. Honorable mantion goes to Robot Tank... I mean weather on the 2600? Come on!! you just have to say that is pretty damn cool!!![/b]

Thanks! I was gonna say the same for yours!

When you say games that "support the module", do you mean that these games are yet to be written? or will the software included in the module be written to accomodate saves for certain games that are already in existance? Either way this sounds really cool!

Actually it's pretty comfortable. I use the back of my thumb. The Paddle is below the stick and the controller case is long enough to be comfortably held with two hands and operate. It did take a few minutes for me to figure out though. I was testing Warlords, pressed fire, and nothing happened. After opening the controller and looking at the wiring I tried "Up" and found that it would fire.

With a Gemini Paddle/Joystick combo, Up (on the Joystick) is "fire" in Paddle games. The fire button is only mapped to fire in Joystick games. Just fyi.

Reminds me of Coalminer's Daughter. -
Pretty neat, but I agree about the cartridge slot. I'd buy it if it had the slot, but I know how to clean my carts and they all work. I theorize that Atari decided to leave it out due to the unrelyability of 20+ year old carts. It would be a tech/support nightmare to field all of the "My old Pac-Man cart doesnt work in your new console" questions. Unsatisfied customer: "My E.T. cartridge doesn't work in the Flashback I just bought." Atari Tech: "Did you clean the contacts?" U.C.: "What are those? Were they supposed to be in the box?" A.T.: "They're on the cartridge..." U.C.:"...I see E.T..... and I see that Elliot kid..." A.T.:"...no, no, sir.... they're locat..." U.C.:"and there's a sticker on one end that says E.T. " A.T.:(heavy sigh)"Sir? Sir?(still listening to the customer describe the cartridge)Sir?"

Any more news on this? Is there a site that tells about it? I am dying to mod my 7800, but if there is a card in development I'll wait. BUT NOT LONG!

Pinning for the fjords!?!

Back in '84, one of my goofy friends stuck an end label back on with a booger. It lasted a surprisingly long time.

That is damn cool!! I remember seeing those (or similar to those) in Sears, back in the day. I wonder if there is a way to rig the timer pot for unlimited play time? Maybe a switch/bypass? I remember playing on the one @ Sears and being in the middle of a hot game and Zap! Time over! Great find!!!

#35 Mark them as "bad" and keep them nearby when you play. When you get frusrated at a game, pick up a dead cart, and whip it against the wall! It'll save your good games and systems a lot of damage, and you still get to visit violence upon technology.

So what you're saying is that they are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked?!

What game cartridge are you using when you are trying to get signal? Try a few just to be sure it's not a cartridge or cartridge connector problem. Also, you may want to connect directly to the 75ohm input and then turn on the Atari and TV. Once they're both on, use the auto program function of thre TV to reprogram all of the channels. If there's signal from the Atari at all, the auto program should be able to lock into it. Hope this helps.

...treat your NIB carts? I have purchased a few NIB or NOS carts and I always love the way the cardboard feels and the way the packaging smells. It sounds weird, but opening them feels like opening a time capsule. I recently purchased a Defender II NIB and shrinkwrapped. The 20+ year old cardboard feels and smells different. The warranty card and instruction manual feel old and new at the same time. I collect to play so I leave the preservation to those who collect for that purpose. I bought a Supercharger (NIB) last year. As I opened the shrinkwrap and box for the first time, I thought of how it would have been opened 20 years ago. Rip the plastic and tear open the top of the box. I opened mine carefully, of course, but I could imagine some kid getting it for Christmas and casually tossing the box away. I guess I just like the idea of being the first person to open the box after it had been sitting in some warehouse all those years. Do any of you get nostalgic when opening your NIB's?

Check the channel selector on the Atari and on the TV to make sure they're both set the same. Using a direct connect RCA - F (75ohm) connector will give the best picture for RF. Radio Shack has them as well or you could buy them from here at the Atari Age Store. http://www.atariage.com/store/

9v DC 500ma is the output. Radio Shack has them. They're also for sale all over the web. I have several that I got from thrift stores.
