  1. Centipede for the 7800 is WAY better than the arcade version. Two player co-op rules! I think some of the arcade-2600 ports like Ms. Pac-Man, Berzerk, Moon Patrol, Bump-N-Jump, and Jungle King are close enough to the original that you don't miss what's missing. (IE - The cartoons in Ms. Pac-Man and the music in Jungle King.) Plus with the hack scene so prolific, some of these missing elements may be returned to 2600 ports. For example, the Berzerk hack with speech added or the Space Invaders Arcade hack.

  3. Try fine tuning the Atari. There is a hole in the RF shielding and you'll need a small hex wrench (allen wrench). Also some modern TV's have auto fine tune functions. The Atari signal may be too weak for the TV to lock the channel in. That may be causing your problem. I used a high isolation A/B/C switch from Radio Shack (Catalog #: 15-1218) and an RCA-F connector instead of the switch box. The connector is for sale on this site in the Atariage Store. Hope it helps.
  4. I've never thrown out a game. My sister threw up on Pac Man and Missile Command, but I saved them.
  5. Sky Diver! I just love seeing them flail their arms and then, due to decelleration trauma, go SPLAT! The sound adds to the diver's comical end!!!
  6. LOL!!!! I was trying some subliminal suggestion/jedi mind trick stuff. Can't blame a guy for trying!!! Of course, none of that prevented me from whupping her ass at Space Invaders and Missile Command!
  7. My Atari Joystick had my teeth marks on em too I only chewed ones that belonged to the girl down the street.
  8. My original was a Sears lite sixer that Santa brought my sis and I in 1979. We accumulated about 30 games in the next four or five years. The system worked beautifully and we played a lot. We had the Sears game center too. Sometime in 1985 or 1986, Mom decided that we didn't play it enough to warrant having it in the living room any more. It was boxed and taken to the basement. Nintendo was popular and my little brother got it for Christmas that year. The Atari was all but forgotten until my youngest brother discovered it in the basement and began playing it. He used it for a while but then Sega Genesis became all the rage and once again it was boxed up. Mom thinks she sold the Sears and the game center plus all the games at a garage sale in 1994 or 1996. She doesn't remember what she got for it. It worked perfectly all those years, and I miss it.
  9. How about "Times Square". That was the name of the local arcade in my neighborhood. They were located in the mall a short bike ride from my house. They're defunct now so I'm sure the name isn't protected.
  10. This is most probably the largest picture I have ever seen posted on the internet!

    S-Video mod.

When you change from S-video to composite, most newer TV's require you to either flip a switch or adjust settings in the menu for the apropriate signal source. I had the same issue and found that there was a small switch on the back of my TV that was near the S-Video input. The switch allows the user to choose S-video/Composite. Hope it helps.

    S-Video mod.

There is a version of the card that will work with Jr's. I desoldered the TIA from my Jr and then soldered a 40 pin socket in it's place. The card I have is the first revision and it will not fit in a Jr. Chris told me that the second revision of the card is laid out differently and therefore should fit in a Jr. The problem is that the TIA in a Jr is installed on the MOBO 180 degrees opposite of most, if not all, other versions of Atari. The first revision of the board is designed to fit in one specific orientation on the Atari MOBO. In a Jr you can get this board to fit if turned 180 degrees, and the mod will work, but you have no room to close the case without modifying it a lot! Chris said the second revision should work in a Jr but it has not yet been tested AFAIK.
  13. ADVENTURE!!!!! You could limit the choices to one player games only. Is there a possibility of posting a screen shot of the winning game being played?
  14. Hey, thanks!! Congrats on getting yours! You're gonna love it!! It is such a cool console. The LED's are groovy! Are these rare? I don't see too much info on them anywhere.
  15. I scored a Sears Video Arcade II (the one with 4 joystick inputs and the cool LED's) complete with the original controllers and power supply! Flea markets rock! It is in excellent condition and was really cheap too! Anyone out there own one? I want to find a user manual or a scan of one.
  16. Mike OC

    Is this rare?

No. It's extremely common, nearly worthless, and probably just a waste of space in your collection. I'll take it off your hands so you won't have to deal with it anymore! JK... Sounds like you scored a Heavy Sixer!!!! Way to go!
  17. The opening music from Sprintmaster is pretty cool. Starfire music is awesome! The robot lasers in Berzerk rock! Especially when heard through a sub-woofer! Extra bassy!
  18. Berzerk! If you can find any dignity in getting fried by a wall let me know! Then sometimes you get lit up by one of the robots. One shot does the trick, but NO!! They have to continue to shoot yer smoking carcass in rapid fire mode and leave nothing to bury!! Now that's humiliation!!!
  19. Radio Shack sells ABC switch boxes that you can use to hook up multiple systems with out interference. The switches are high-isolation and allow for systems of different signal strength to be connected to one television. I used one to connect a Sega Genesis, an Atari 7800, and an Atari 2600 Jr all to the same television with no interference that I could detect. Here's a link... http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...%5Fid=15%2D1218
  20. Almost all PC's have a gameport connection in the back. USB controllers changed that, but up until a few years ago nearly all connections were made in the rear of the machine. I think aesthetics won out over functionality when they designed the VCS. The front has clean lines and woodgrain. The rear is the business end of the machine.
  21. Thanks man! It is a sweet machine! I hooked it up to the 27" and played for hours! That heavy RF shield really does help pump out a rich display. I'm beginning to think that the "on/on" (thanks CPUWIZ!) switch is simply worn and not mis-wired or installed backwards as I first thought. Time to hit Best Electronics for a replacement for when this switch finally goes. My digital camera took a poop otherwise I'd have some pics to post.

    WARLORDS!

I used to love to play with 4-players, now there was some great trash talkin'!! Loved to fake out my buddy then let the ball fly! I think a networked version would be awesome.

    WARLORDS!

Is it just me or is Warlords one of the best 2600 games ever? My girlfriend and I played it for a couple of hours last night. She usually only plays Ms Pacman or Dug-Dug but I convinced her to try Warlords and she totally loved it! I guess I'd forgotten how much fun that game really is! I wonder if anyone has any plans to create a hack of the game or create an online version in flash or something. That would be a cool game to play on a network.
  24. I got it at the Liberty Bell Flea Market. It is located at the southwest corner of East Washington St and North Post Rd. If you enter from the Post road side there's a couple of booths you gotta see. There's an old fella named Bud who usually has lots of loose carts and sometimes gets his hands on systems as well, and if you walk to the end of the hall there's another guy who has a lot of systems and computers. Both booths are on the left hand side of the hall as you walk in. They both are priced reasonably and will cut a deal if you get them talking. Good luck!
