The Insanely Great* Puzzle Game Thread
Kialan replied to Jasoco's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Woohoo! I beat Hard Puzzle mode in Bust A Move 2: Arcade Edition. I went left every time. Final score: 1,741,670. I couldn't get a screenshot, but proof I beat it is: It said "You found the treasure box!" in bad english (chest...not box!) Here's a screenshot of the game beaten on Normal mode. I just thought it was cute. -
It's just something I've always done since I was little..with my NES controllers. My hands have the muscle memory movements down. Feel free to spread my idea...as long as you write © Alex C. Industries in big sharpie marker on each roll. Kthxbye
-
Well, it's huge to my definition. lol http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 I just need to unload some things. Starting price is 99 cents.

Yeah I was gonna post the same thing...they're on to us!

I don't hate them, I think they are unique The reverse can be annoying, but you get the 'twitch' muscle memory to switch controls back and forth. The turtle is not that bad. I know about Bentley Bear from Crystal Castles (great game btw), but what about the others? It's all opinion but I am up to Miracle Cup (the third tier) and I got the first two trophies. I beat the third race in 2nd and thought it would give me a silver trophy but nope..nothing >< guess you have to be first. Well there really aren't "weapons" so unless they had some specific to the deathmatch mode...you'd be driving around eachother with nothing to hit with lol. I like the graphics in this game (my friend came over and said Hey those are good graphics, and he's used to dreamcast, PS2, and Gamecube!) The backgrounds are pretty, especially the castle. And as far as the modes...I've only been in Flat once, just to try it out, AFTER I had beaten the things I did on Hilly mode. It's a bit of a difference! Can't really tell if it affects gameplay much, besides the 'bouncing' or jumping. My 2nd controller came yesterday so I tried out the 2 player...couldn't notice any slowdown! And the splitscreen is nice, to me it seems there is more room (less compacted vertically) than I remember with Mario Kart and other split screen games. Nice touch. Now to get my friend back here again to play... Thanks for the replies btw-I'm not 'bashing' anything, just another Jag player

For those who need SVideo extension cables...and other things: http://www.svideo.com/svidcabmal12.html Yes. Svideo.com. Who would have thought

Thanks for the offer but the only emu I use is for 2600, and even then that's usually to play 1 game and then I delete it. I'll take your word for it that it's good-Raiden is my favorite shooter!
-
Thanks for the game recommendations! They all look really good. I'll see if I can get a bulk deal sometime. Is Raiden a good port vs. the Jaguar one? Btw I'm still amazed at the flatness of the games. Much like the SMS cards. Is there some sort of different technology used? And sorry, Warbirds is mine if I find an extra in the wild I'll get it for you!

Well when it was out I personally only knew one person who had it. And in fact I'm waiting for mine in the mail which would be the first time I played it. It will NOT be the first time I've seen one around here...as many people have them at fleamarkets. So.. Considering the amount of games, and the availability of games and systems on ebay, I wouldn't call it a failure. I'd call it just what it is: an add-on. You have to look at it from that perspective as not everyone buys add-ons for their systems. I'd say only the mildly hardcore gamers and up would...not the casual grandpa who has a sega for his grandkids to play during the holidays. I think the fact that the Sega CD was out during the FMV phase/obsession, people were starting to not care about FMVs and realized they were just a ..oh I can't think of the word...fad/perk/trend argh. You know what I mean. So the Sega CD had many of these games and maybe people were turned off by that. But still, judging from an add-on perspective, I think the Sega CD was a success.

Just got my Lynx 1 today (I wanted a 1 first, I'll get a 2 later) and I must say, WOW! What a cool handheld! It has so much personality. I got 10 carts with it with manuals except paperboy: California Games (ridged) Chip's Challenge (ridged) Gauntlet (curved) Paperboy (curved) Rampage (curved) Robotron 2084 (curved) Rygar (curved) Todd's Adventures in Slime World (curved) Warbirds (curved) Xenophobe (curved) And plus I had a sealed Pit Fighter already. Comlynx cable, carrying case, and AC adapter were also included. The only problem is the ac adapter has a fray near where the cord meets the adapter. I'm just going to wrap some electrical tape around it. As far as games go so far I like Rygar, Chip's Challenge, Rampage (which I've also got for SMS and I like), Paperboy is ok although a bit hard to see the game (I'm used to SMS and NES versions) and I love Robotron 2084 on control setting C. Xenophobe, Gauntlet, and Slime World are ok but I don't know how to play yet. Warbirds and California games are also ok but just not my favorite genres. And we all know Pit Fighter is ....Pit Fighter To clean the carts I used an eraser-is this the best way to do it? I use alcohol on everything else but it seemed dangerously close to the label in these cases (and not enough applied pressure). And I'd love to get some game recommendations from you Lynx experts And I have a question..with the newer Green PCB style carts (Songbird, Telegames, Homebrews) how do you get the game out? Do you actually push on the EPROM? I'm very happy to finally get a Lynx so count me as another gamer and collector!

Different types and numbers of pokemon available to catch. It is like, you can't catch them all with just your game, so you have to trade with your friend Timmy who has another version. I suppose they wanted to bring people together. (or just sell a lot of games)

If anyone wins it, they can do the math on how much money they wasted.

My pet cockatiel loves to play Atari Karts! His favorite character is Regius the bird. He has trouble accellerating and steering at the same time though... (I think this would be a fun idea..post pictures of your pets playing video games)

Your personal classic video game demons..
Kialan replied to Kialan's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ok, here's one where I felt really stupid. Ever since I was little I always had this small RF-only input tv, so when we got new consoles (like SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, NES, Playstation, 3DO, and N64) we would go out and get RF adapters for them, and abandon the composite cables. My dad was smart enough, but never told me how bad RF really is. I would think "Oh the game is playing in Mono sound because my TV is mono" but the RF cables were ALSO mono, when I thought they were stereo. -The thing that bothers me is isn't analog cable in stereo I can't figure that out.- So from the beginning I was 'trained' to use RF adapters. About 2 years ago I was STILL using RF, on my front-composite-jack-enabled TV. It was until it clicked that RF is in mono did I start looking for all the composite cables for my systems. I did a comparison and hooked the Genesis up in RF AND composite, and wow was there a difference! Stereo sound, and beautiful picture. It was so amazingly different I did a school project on it. And to this day I can't believe I was using RF when I had composite available. For 10 years. ----------------- Another demon is when we got the RF adapter for Saturn, it buzzed on the tv speakers. Like crazy. Turns out it was a third party adapter (I never paid attention to that then, and it never occured to me that maybe third party products suck) and so we took it back and got an official one. No buzzing ever again. But you see, now I have the problem that whenever I turn on the Saturn (and see the broken pieces flying together to create the logo) I EXPECT to hear buzzing. It is ingrained in my brain. Right now I can recall the sound, and it was 6 years or more ago. -
I had some problems with my thompson drive Xbox, and I am problably leaning on obsessive compulsive when it comes to babying my video games. There was proper ventilation, nothing stacked, etc...but every once in awhile I'd get a disc read error (discs would be scratch free like all my other cds/dvds that I bought new) and sometimes it took 4 more ejects to get the game to load. How something can fail to load a scratch-free disc is beyond me. But anyways I sold that sucker so shhhh

Yeah I know. He's been raising the prices of everything I've been bidding on

My jag is a K series and it freezes with and without the CD unit Is this a documented problem?

Galaxian is one of the few games of that genre/type that I like. Must be genetic!

Recently I got a Missile Command cart complete off ebay and it works great...mostly. The contacts are sparkling clean, and my console is fine. I'm pretty sure it's the game. This is what happens.. Original and Virtual work fine. But play 3D and lose cities so there are 2 or 1 left...and after the review (with points, fixing cities etc) it says Standard Missiles (or Turbo Missiles). The missile quantities jump to 20 and the game freezes. No #* reset, no nothing. The music keeps playing. Anyone know what's wrong? Why would it only freeze on partof the game?

Wayne's World! It's party time, excellent! -
Well I picked this game up complete in box for $40 recently and I must say it's one of the better Jag games. By Jag standards. I was raised on Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 so I may be a little biased but I guess you could say I know a lot about the genre. Here are my thoughts... Pros: -Unique power ups, with steering, friction reducer, max speed boost (rabbit) which is long-not short like SMK mushrooms. The heart inceases your continues, though you wont need those till at least the 3rd tier races. -Unique power downs-although they can be annoying. Steering reversal, turtle shell (max speed down) -Unique characters, which I'm sure the designers really pushed for since they didn't want to get sued for similarities by Nintendo. Most characters are way out of left field. My personal fave is the ninja -Very easy to pick up and play Cons: -Repeating levels. The designs change *sometimes* but that's not that noticable. Tier one you get 4 levels. Tier two you get 5, with the extra being the ninja's level from your one-on-one race last time. Tier three you get 6, with the ninja and the pum king's level. And I haven't made it past there yet. -Bad music. Is it just me, or does the music not fit the type of game AT ALL? The title music? Oddly depressing. Game standings? Too dramatic. In game music? Very similar and the only one that stood out was Pum King's level. Other than that none of the music fits. On the box/manual you get the impression it's going to be a fun wacky game...but you get into it and all the music is unrelated. -Bad collision. You touch a wall, you come to a dead stop. You have to back up, and accellerate out of the mess. And it sometimes is a mess. Once I got stuck on a rock and couldn't move forward or backward for quite some time...while everyone passed me (I lost btw). Also, is you touch another racer you go flying! Bump into them from behind, you get launched backwards which really slows you down. The upside to this is if THEY hit you from behind, you get a nice boost forward which is usually beneficial. Getting hit from the side is horrible.. -In the 3rd tier, where I'm at now, I'd have to say bad level design. The speed you're going now is way too fast for these later levels, where there are extremely sharp turns it is impossible to make. Well I just remember something...maybe it's easier with a pro controller (which I don't have) so I guess I should stop commenting on sharp turns till I get a Pro C. -The other racers don't get affected by power ups, downs, or even the terrain, They don't slow down when going over water, dirt, or even oil slicks. Compared to the other jag titles I'd have to give this a C+ or B- for effort. You'll have some fun with it till it gets impossible later. Once I get my replacement controller from Songbird (the first was defective, with Down not working) I'll try out the 2 player mode. --------- I was wondering why it is considered a rarity 8 so I searched and read some posts on the forum here. So it was one of the last games released? It's rated as a 4/10 here http://www.davidsclazzic.com/GAMELIST/Atarijag.htm Although I would take that guy's lists with a grain of salt. And a rarity 4 on digitpress.com I guess that would put it at an average of 5 or 6 rarity. But the AtariAge Jaguar list seems to be a bit high on everything anyways, or at least on a different "wavelength" so to speak. Thoughts?

Does it still say that even without a game genie connected? -
You made me think of Utopia for Intellivision..but I haven't played that ever in depth so I can't tell you much more about it. Just a guess.

Is the X-Box Going to Become the Next Jaguar?
Kialan replied to Tempest's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I still find it funny when people complain about the original large Xbox controllers. They fit perfectly in my hands..and the button layout was great. The people who complained must have teeny tiny baby hands (flame bait)
