  1. As a further note, my love for battered carts puts me off buying 'new sealed boxed etc' even if they are cheap. Today on Ebay I think it was Star Raiders was on in Mint Sealed Box but only had one opening bid, I was going to bid but then declined to bid, I thought what will I do with the box, all my carts get slung in a tub I then have to store the box as throwing it out would be a crime.

On this basis, if there are any UK collectors that want empty boxes, instructions etc I'm happy to give them away no charge if I ever get any through bidding on a cart. I only say UK due to postage costs, no form of discrimination. As I say it would be a crime to throw these out.

  2. Well... it's interesting to see the insight of collectamania, this is my angle on it, I've got my 6 switch woody and two more for spare parts etc. I'm not really interested in games that honestly I wouldn't play.

I'd reccomend downloading the emulator on this site and the available roms (that's how I came across this forum) and playing every game from a to z. It's amazing how many you remember by doing this from back in the day.

Then make a great big list of games you will play over and over and constantly scan Ebay or same such internet device for these games.

You see my main criteria for a game is can I play it over and over whilst drinking Fosters and eating crisps. Loose carts any condition so long as they work is all I require.

I'm not interested in whether they are boxed or whether they have a high rarity level. However the rarity guide here is a fantastic way of determining how much I should pay for a game. BMX Stuntmaster, I really want that, knowing it's rarity level here I know I shall have to bid to high stakes to get it as it's few and far between.

But that's me, to complete my system, what I'm really focussing on as opposed to cart box's and label types is a television of all things, I want an old late seventies portable TV that I can put ET, Star Wars and Gremlins stickers on the side as for me that's what it's about. When I see the type of Television in question I'll buy it. Weird isn't it, that's how collecting works.

I might get boo's for this, but I quite like battered carts, non-atari joysticks as it reminds me nostalgicaly how it was back in the day, but it makes it easier for me to collect. Top stuff.

  3. Well, on UK television recently the reality show "I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here" the topless model Jordan with her unfeasibly large artificial breasts managed to stay in to the near end as viewers vote out of the Jungle the people they don't find interesting.

Now Jordan is in the Jungle for two weeks but she is unable to light a camp fire, additionaly she is even incapable of collecting wood for the fire. The public like her unfeasibly large artifical breast so don't vote her out.

The other contests, Peter Andre a crap has been pop star of the nineties, he has nothing to offer on the survival stakes yet he is in the final three, the reason been he fancies Jordans unfeasibly large artificial breasts and makes a spectacleof himself all the time, this entertains the public so they don't vote him out.

However Diane the Olympic Gold Medalist has a lot to offer on the survival stakes, however the public want to see a celebrity with a gimmick or some social abnormality, Diane doesn't offer this so gets voted out almost immediatly.

    Therefore...

In my opinion, an 8bit Ladyboy now named Sandra that jiggys about with a hackey sack has got to be a sure bet to stay in the jungle and not get voted out by the public.

Monkeys that smoke cigars and a man that thinks he's a goat have got more chance of surviving in the jungle these days when it's governed by the Great British public, and I for one will vote for the latter.

    Top stuff.

  4. From my observations, practicality and ability to survive usually results in been the first voted out.

Therefore by reckoning the dude in California Games that jiggy's around with the Hackey Sack is the most likely contender for the winning crown on the grounds of resembling some kind of 8 bit Ladyboy.

Much fun was had at the Epyx brainstorming meeting back in the early eighties when the designer said to the programmer "Is it possible to create unnatural child bearing hips on a man the programmer answered "Yep".

From now on let Hackey Sack man be known as Sandra.

  5. So come on, which is best?

*Battlezone, I just can't get away from the shells of the other tanks once there locked on, especially from behind.

*Robot Tank, (have been playing this one on Stellatron don't have it for console), can get away and play longer and nice graphics.

Do I buy Robot Tank for the console and turn my back on Battlezone which was an era classic in the arcade and on the 2600 back in the day.

This really is a lifeboat question, your taking in water, you have two carts (as well as a console, television and miraclelike mains power supply) you have to throw one cart overboard to reduce that essential bit of weight or you sink. But decide wisely you may be drifting for six weeks before rescue so the game you choose better be your favourite.

    Ahem... I must go now.

  6. That's interesting, the colour I'm seeing is Blue so it must be a PAL cart after all, my television is a modern Sony, so it must be a case that it can't sync to 46Hz, I'll try it with one of my other tellys an older model and see what the outcome is. Thanks for that.

  7. Just been checking this game out against the emulator, as well as the screen rolling, the colours are out of kilter as well on my system, green is blue, orange is brown, which would ring true if it was an NTSC cart on a PAL system, the colour subcarrier is different for systems so colours are translated different.

What a downer, anyone want to swap a NTSC version for a PAL version? I'm just curious how this got around as this must have originated from here then judging from the previous post.

  8. I've just got Acid Drop from a seller on Ebay, thing is when the game starts the screen starts rolling at a constant rate.

I understand that this would be the case with an NTSC cart on my PAL system and all the signs indicate that this version is NTSC however was Acid Drop ever released as an NTSC version, I thought this was a European game (french I think) and only released in PAL.

Please, someone, anyone, make me stand corrected and tell me I'm wrong. This is a real arse because it has to be the best non-shooter for the 2600.

P.S. I will fight with anyone that thinks Acid Drop is crap, however I'm not that strong and can be a bit of a coward.

  9. I'm looking at the forthcoming A26 Maxicart with interest, but been a UK 2600 owner I would need PAL Roms to upload to it, are there any known archives for PAL Roms? I'm guessing all the Roms to download from here are NTSC.

I know I could try and get an NTSC machine that my Sony telly would be able to handle, but not only would it be an arse to get hold of an NTSC machine, I would have to keep swapping consoles when playing with my current carts and then wanting to use the Maxicart.

As a secondry thought what hardware is required to download Rom data from carts? I'm quite handy with electronics so if I could get hold of this I could start getting the ball rolling for UK Roms, the only thing is I don't have many rare carts as such to download from which is why I would want a Maxicart.

  10. It's got to be Combat on any game level when you are playing a friend for the first time and new to the game and you kind of explain the rules as they play.

They shoot you and ask "did I do that right?", with a slight blush to the cheeks you reply "Oh yes, well I... er... thought I would give you a chance".

Quite embarassing, with only a brief moment afforded to wallow in self pity and shame before the plane/tank is back in control again. It happened to me tonight.

  11. I don't know whether it has been done not seen it if it has, but it would be good if Atariage did a poll for the ulitmate top ten games for 2600. Maybe even two polls for one player and one for two player games.

You see Pele Soccer would be up there for me, but I'm sure to a U.S. audience it's probably down there. Hmmm... I think I will get a black marker pen and change soccer to football on the cart.

It would be interesting to see if it's only me that thinks Pacman is dog poo, it was dog poo back in the day and is still dog poo now, with Asteroids being borderline, however Space Invaders my god that's good, it's so good it smells of freshly baked bread.

Anyone sick of seeing my posts on here yet, I'm bored at the moment, I think I've got typing turrets, does it show?

  12. I want to play my 2600 six switch woody in 2058, however I don't think it will last that long, parts will fail by then.

So my question is, does the black/silver later 2600 motherboards have the same dimesions as the 6 switch woody 2600?

The later 80's black/silver 2600's are going for peanuts on Ebay, I thought I could get a couple for spares/repairs.

I know that obviously the boards would need resoldering for the differing button types, but whether the boards will physically fit is the main obstacle.

I have a feeling that by 2058 I will have downed 106,232 AT AT's on Empire Strikes Back by then, but I guess they will still just keep coming.

  13. Hey Chaps, success, following the pin out diagram for the 2600 I put on here earlier:

    http://www.epanorama.net/documents/joystic...ck/tvgames.html

I've managed to convert a brand new quickshot megadrive joystick to work on the 2600. It's a bit of an arse and took a while I basically had to scratch out the contacts on the joystick internal PCB, solder the microswitchs to new wires, make a new gound contact for all microswitch's then the messy bit matching all the wires to a new standard serial cable socket.

I did all that yesterday, took quite some time and some more, then when I got home my other half said she was helping a friend move house and found a copule of c64 joysticks in the loft and brought them home for me. This were found mid-day just when I started my many hour rewiring project. Ooh the irony of it.

Anyway the c64 joysticks work great, my custom contraption works great, tested it out on Empire Strikes Back because it would be rude not too, low and behold down go the AT AT's but still they keep coming.

Like the idea of building my own stick from arcade parts and like Joseph The Carpenter building a nice wood base in the theme of the 2600.

Anyone know where you can buy arcade stick/button parts in the UK.

    Cheers

P.S. I can now go up, down left and right now on Berserk, it's liberating I need a cold shower.

  14. It's got to be Berserk! unless there is one already, I don't mean the arcade version the 2600 version, the bitmapped robots, I'd buy 8 one for each day of the week and a spare for wash day. Er.. well one actually, one to wear everyday for seven days then a checked cheese cloth shirt on wash day.

Wish I could play Berserk, my joystick will only go up, down and left. Downer.

  15. Right, Ok here's my point, Atari joysticks are finite in supply (UK), I bought one off Ebay for a handsome price, it was crap and would not move right, does anybody know of any conversion units to convert a PC Joystick (Gameport?) to use on an Atari 2600?

Can you imagine my discontent when playing Berserk with Up, Down and Left the law of physics dictate that I will run into a wall sooner than I should. Downer.

    Cheers
