PS4 God of War (124 min) So, I thought I was going to be getting back to GoW after setting it aside a few months ago. I'm really wishing I hadn't set it aside, I had to relearn how to fight and the things I learned about puzzule solving in this game was lost and I spent more time wandering around scratching my head as to what I need to do then playing anything. That was frustrating, so I thought I'd get a side game of something else going at the same time.... XB1 My Time at Portia (1704 min) ...and, so much for "side game." This game is similar to Stardew Valley, except you run a workshop instead of a farm. And it hooked me the same way SV did back when I played that. Fun game, not perfect, inventory management is a bit clunky, fighting is fairly simplistic and feels a bit grindy. But it's certainly addictive.

Dude, I've stated more than once that I respect those that prefer to go the physical route. I'm just saying there's no need for hyperbole to rationalize that choice.

My Time At Portia has hooked me the same way Stardew Valley did a few years ago. Also playing Borderlands 2 co-op. Just joined Game Pass Ultimate and I'm a litttle overwhelmed with choice. Metro: Exodus and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are in the queue, though.

So, my Live was a week away from being up last month when they announced this. I picked up three years of Live and accepted the extra months on the first two before realizing it wouldn't let me enter the third year. So I was going to wait two months before entering the third month and converting, until I saw on the 4th that it was ending. So I bit the bullet and just converted what I had. I entered the 3rd code afterwards, but it only converted to 4 months (the monetary conversion, rather than month-for-month). This works great for now, but I did this with the intention of moving away from console to PC for the upcoming generation, so I'll likely just change over to the PC pass when the time comes.

I've had my copy of Civ 4 for 14 years, I don't want to know what the overdue fees are on that rental... Like I said, I know there are a hadful of examples that this has happened, but that's out of literally thousands of games. Statisitically, you're probably more likely to get hit by a car crossing the street than lose a digital game (from a non-shady supplier). It's always possible, sure, but it's also possible that my physical copy is lost or damaged and I lose that, too...

Yeah, for me personally, games are an experience, like meals or travelling. I don't need to hold something in my hand when I finish it to feel fullfilled. Millage may vary, I understand the collector mentality, I used to collect comics when I was younger.

The Chicken Little arguement against digital is amusing. I've been on PC digital (starting with Steam) since 2005 and console digital (starting with XBox Live) since 2010. I've not lost access to any games I've bought digitally. I know there's a handful of games that have been pulled digitally (out of the many thousands you can choose from), but the ones I know of were digital only, so yeah... Now, losing access to the ability to play games-as-service games because the developer shuts down the servers, that's maybe something to be concerned about. But that affects physical and digital copies equally. If you like buying and collecting physical, that's awesome, there are plenty of advantages to that. But the sky is not falling, last I checked.

NES/Famicom Pro Wrestling (12 min) VS Exitebike (23 min) Played both of these on Switch this weekend. Wow, never played VS Excitebike before. As good as the import version of Excitebike is, it would have been nice to get this version over here back in the day...

PC Civilization VI (652 min) Mini Metro (354 min) Finished the Phoenician game, which was a route, as expected. I really enjoy the mechanisms of this game, but the AI is terrible compared to older versions of the game. Stop declaring war against me when I can walk all over you... Mini Metro is a pretty cool puzzle game I got a in a Humble Bundle a couple years ago, where you build transit lines to deliver "people" shapes to their "destination" shapes. Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (152 min) Played a bit of multiplayer this weekend with friends. Can hold my own a bit better than last winter with the practice. XB1 Borderlands 2 (113 min) A bit more co-op with the bro.

XB1 Borderlands 2 (81 min) PC Civilization VI (447 min) Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (475 min) Pretty much a continuation from last week, with some co-op BL2 with my brother (though we had some connection problems that cut it short). The Civ game as the Phoenicians continues, and even with a new patch that makes scientific and cultural advancement a bit tougher, as usual, I have WWII bombers and tanks in the 15th century and I'm rolling over my neighbors with their cavalry and crossbowmen. And the game is on Emperor level, I guess next game needs to move up to Immortal. I remember Civs 1 through 5, where I had difficulty playing King, let alone stomping in Emperor. This game is fun, but there's something not quite right with the balance. Still unlocking fighters in SSB and making my through World of Light. Those 4 star spirit fights are frustrating. I had a fight as Marth, my secondary main, vs Zero Suit Samus, and I didn't get a hit in because she juggled me the entire match. I need to get a 4-star enhanceable primary spirit somehow, that might make those fights winable for a not-very-good Smash player, such as myself.

Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (899 min) Making my way through World of Light and unlocking the roster as I go. Starting to do not too bad with Mario, Marth, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Pac-Man. PC Civilization VI (478 min) Started a new Civ game, playing as the Phoenicians/Dido on the new Seven Seas style map. Shooting for a science victory in this one, the map has a lot of mountains, which is good science-y terrain.

Yeah, it was free with Gold a few months ago.

I'm also using Brave. Yeah, it's Chromium, but that doesn't make it Chrome any more than a game using Unreal engine makes a game Unreal.

PC The Long Dark (65 min) Certainly plan to get back to this game, but I got distracted this week. I haven't picked up a Switch yet, as I played BotW on WiiU, and I don't do handheld gaming (I had a 3DS for about 3 years before I got rid of it, as it was collecting dust). Seeing the teaser for BotW2 on the Nintendo E3 direct was the final straw, however, so I'll now be helping the Switch dominate this list more than it already does... Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (283 min) Played a bunch of this at my brother's during the Christmas break, so I'm getting some practice in before some of our friends start playing online.

I specifically went a got three 1-year passes to convert, as my XBL membership was due to end this week. Unfortunately(?) they gave me a bonus month with each of the passes, so when I went to enter the third one, it wouldn't let me because it would go beyond three years. So I need to wait a couple months, but I'll be on GPU, as well.

Not on sale because It doesn't come out until next week, but My Friend Pedro looks awesome.

I'm betting that backwards compatibility, for both games and peripherals, will be anything that works right now with the XB1. No where has it been stated that BC is going to be complete with everything MS has ever made.

PC Crusader Kings 2 (491 min) The Long Dark (812 min) Finished the CK2 game, half of England short of the Empire of Britannia. I'm taking a break for now, but I would like to eventually try a different culture and perhaps start in the 9th century. So I picked an Canadian indie game called The Long Dark, a winter survival game. The protagonist is a pilot that crashes his plane somewhere in the northern Rockies during winter, due to a solar flare that takes out the power grid, while trying to transport his ex-wife to a small northern town for some mysterious emergency. The story is interesting and getting caught in a blizzard during a long trek can be harrowing.

I played back when it came out on PC, but I understand it has changed a lot, so I may need to revisit...
