I am not getting the prompt. So I don't know what to do stuff like config my WIFI credentials. do you have a list of AT commands? I can switch baud rate, and I get an OK in response to the at command I've tried, but besides the OK nothing else. Using Bobterm 1.21 in both ascii and atascii, I tried the Ctrl J and similars.. Thanks!

We all might need a visit to physical therapy to deal with thumb pain. It is really painful to go more than 2 games at once.

Just a crazy idea to extract the FW from the Intel 8050 chip : maybe there is a way to extract the firmware they way that @warerat extracted it from the 850 (using an Atari program). I also found these two interesting links (they don't cover the 8050 specifically but it might help since it cover the same family of uP) http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/components/intel/8048/9800270D_MCS-48_Family_Users_Manual_Jul78.pdf https://www.eevblog.com/forum/microcontrollers/simple-programmer-for-vintage-intel-mcs-48-microcontroller/ This last one shows that Willem programmer might be compatible: http://www.mpu51.com/eprom/eprom3.htm

Atari 8-bit EPROM Cross-Reference
manterola replied to Timothy Kline's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Xf551 with and without eprom used the same exact revision board. This is the board that came with my Xf551 without eprom in 1990. Months ago I installed the Dropcheck new motherboard but I kept the old one just in case. You can see in the first two pictures which are from my old pcb with both sides, how the space for the eprom is there but it came unpopulated. The 3rd picture shows the jumpers in the intel 8050 chip, s3 is not there but s4 is. The 4th picture is from my second xf551 that I got a year ago or so. This came with eprom and it has different jumpers setting S3 and S4. Sorry to derail the topic... -

Atari 8-bit EPROM Cross-Reference
manterola replied to Timothy Kline's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yep, you are right , however my xf551 came with the intel 8050 only (not a generic one, it has an intel 8050 with Atari C0 number). The FW is IN the Atari/Intel 8050. Last year I got another Xf551 which it came with FW in a separate chip, and this one indeed has problems when changing densities. So since then I been thinking in how to get the Original FW from my original XF551 (from the intel 8050 chip) so I can compare and see which FW it had. So Atari used the intel 8050 in both ways: with and without the external eprom. My guess is that every atari branded intel 8050 comes with the FW already there, but setting one pin low (or high) they choose not to use it and use the FW in the eprom instead. So anyway, just random interesting stuff without a real practical use, just the coolness of running my xf551 as before without the need of EPROM. BTW, thanks Nezgar for recommending the TL866 many months ago. It is a lot of fun to have a programmer at home. I have learned a bit since then regarding these EPROM matters, that is why I asked about the MacGyver it to make it work with other chips not directly supported. Thanks again -
Atari 8-bit EPROM Cross-Reference
manterola replied to Timothy Kline's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I would like to program and read the P8050AH intel chips use in the xf551 and clones. for example I would like to extract the FW of my original XF551 which actually worked pretty well. The info is very limited regarding this processor(with included memory),they called this family the MCS48 something like that. Can we MacGyver TL866 to program those maybe? -
Atari 8-bit EPROM Cross-Reference

I did not invested in a real eprom eraser, I just got a cheap toothbrush sanitizer... It uses some AA batteries and a timer of about 5 to 10 menutes and it actually works, but I need to keep stating the timer again since 1 or 2 passes or even 3 passes are not enough. It works, it is cheap, but If you can spend more money get the real thing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intizar-UV-Toothbrush-Sanitizer-Eliminates-up-to-99-9-of-Germs-Bacteria-PINK/152858601342?epid=1864074481&hash=item239715277e:g:2KEAAOSwY3daU9vc 6 bucks free shipping.. but not very convenient. -

That looks like a fun project to do.. but I wouldn't do it more than once. So, I was looking for Cartridge PCBs which can be put inside the classic brown cartridge case (and use a standard 2764 or 27c64 eprom directly). I only found the ones from oshpark and they are expensive (and I don;t know if they are companitlbe with brown cases). Are you aware of other available cartridge PCBs?

I guess you are right, cmd to cts, and select that signal in the handshake option of respeqt.

@kheller2, the board is the typical 64x4 motherboard with space for four 4464 ram chips but only two populated and some jumpers in the emmu space, like the one here: The one in the picture is PAL, mine is NTSC, but the MB looks the same. Let me take a picture of the label and I will post it soon. Edit: here it is, not very clear after all these years.

Atari 800XE - System Stability/Integrity
manterola replied to MrFish's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I concur with Mathy, it is just a 130XE (the version with 4 ram chips 64x4 MB) with two 4464 chips instead of 4, without EMMU and with a different badge. Therefore, quality wise 800XE should be the same than later generation 130XEs, XEGS and 65XEs (like my original first computer that I already have and use). And yes, many later generation XE computers and XE game systems came with bad GTIA (not mine...even though it came with 64x4 MB). -
I already have one of those! the only problem is that the OS (Windows) and the Windows file manager take more time in searching files than the Atari (when I plug the SD card in both UnoCart or AVG cart). Good work guys!!! you have already beaten the Intel Core whatever...

Mary Poppins Update - Sprite - Color - Gameplay.
manterola replied to Grevle's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Never late... I did not know there was a Mary Poppins game.. It came just in time, since we watched the movie few weeks ago with the family (I never really watched the whole movie before) and I really like it... I am still with chim-chimmeny song in my head... really sticky melody.... -
I agree regarding the mylar as the most probable cause. I would like to add that sometimes there is no need to replace the mylar. if the problem is related to few keys from a common line in the matrix like 7,8,9,0 etc. you'll be able to know which pin is problematic one (ex: pin1) so you can check that line closely. If you are lucky a simple contact cleaner can make it work again, in other cases, just cutting with scissors a few cent. or inches from the end of the mylar can make it work again. Or sometimes is the connector (not the mylar) which is nor making proper contact with the mylar edge conducting traces. In summary, check first which keys are not working and check that against the matrix posted above by TGB1718.

Sorry, I really did sound like an a***ole, my intention was to create awareness or remind everyone about the existence of this version and to encourage to try it. It is a breath of fresh air after several rounds of the official latest version. In the official version you can go thoroughly destroying the space station base cannons, in the preview version you just try to survive, since the screen is full of enemies pretty quickly, even when it is not condition red, yet. Correct.. You can see the schematics of the xf551 or 1050 drives for inspiration. Those actually use an open collector output transistor, as far as I remember.

What about a hectic/frantic mode? 😜

First try. BTW, there is an early version of this game that it much more challenging, hard and fast than the latest version. I really enjoy playing that other version, since it is hectic and you are done after few minutes. Just my. 02

Hi All, I was experimenting with a WD1770 instead of the WD1772 in my XF-551 5.25 inches drive. I thought the conclusion about the compatibility of the WD1770 was that it should work as long as you are not doing 720K in 3.5" floppies (no matter if using HyperX or Woodley firmware). However, I got reading and booting problems with some MyDOS 360K 5.25" floppies when using WD1770... with some, others were read correctly. I was reading about the differences b/w WD1770 and WD1772 and it looks like the steps rates available are the only difference. Not really fully understanding the step rate concept, but having an idea of what it is, could a weird step rate selection during formatting in some 360K 5.25" floppies be the cause of the inability to read those diskettes? Why we need to select a step rate during formatting in some DOS in the first place? how that affect the reading of that floppy in other disk drives / other firmwares? and finally... what is the last word regarding this WD1770 compatibility with XF551? Thanks, Mauricio

I have my xm301 always connected to the SIO chain and I use sio2pc (DIY) quite often with RespeQt. I can try again tonight, by loading XE term. I think it might be something wrong with the modem, or the sio2pc is not ready to share the SIO bus (it does not have the diode or an open collector output). Have you tried to use the sio2pc with other devices beside the xm301?

Atari 800XL, occasional picture problem after UAV install
manterola replied to Nolium's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
My guess: the TV , not the computer. I might be wrong, but that it is an easy test if you have another monitor. -
I guess it is supposed to say Alert, but I keep hearing alive alive! just like in the arcade version.
