Indeed, Mr. Do is a great game, I'll keep playing in the future. What a great discovery. I wish I had more time to improve.. Here I am posting my lackluster score, late... Sometimes it is better late than never.

Cassette load times are shorter and errors can be recovered without starting from zero. This technology is not new. So any release can take advantage of it.

Only ready available, syscheck. But it does much more than just a RAM expansion. http://www.van-radecke.de/STUFF/tfhh_HW_info.pdf

OK. that's interesting... I tried to glue wire filaments and kind of work but it was not great. How do you solder to the Mylar without burning the plastic? (con mucho cuidado?)

65XE/130XE Cartridge Port Extender - 90 degree
manterola replied to NISMOPC's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I got my RA extender yesterday, it is such a great addition to my 65XE, I don't how I could stand it w.o. one for so many years. I wish I know about 3d printing design to come up with a case. -
Yep, the trick was the spray you applied... Can you give us the name of the product? Once I got a similar shield , all rusted. I left it in vinegar for some hours and that helped me a lot. Then I sanded it that was it... free of rust, but not shinning anymore.

Problem with Atari Jr. simple A/V composite mod...
manterola replied to manterola's topic in Atari 2600
Great guides!!! Thank you! -
Hi All, I got an Atari 2600 Jr. and the RF signal is really really bad. So I build that simple video mod with the transistor and 3 resistors (3.3k, 2.2k and 75 ohm for the output if my memory serves me well). But now I am struggling to find the place on were to take the video signal (composite) for the input in my circuit. google and atariage search did not help me... sorry. Another very helpfull piece of information would be a 2600 Jr schematics (the one I found does not have the components names like R12, etc). Thanks a lot. Mauricio

I am glad that no HC cards solved the problem. I got some back ups for myself as well, last time I stopped by a GameStop.

Hello MacRorie, It is a bit confusing where to put the input for color for Atari 2600 vs Atari 8 bit computers. In the pictures look like we have to have the IN in the green connector, but there is also a TCOL via and I read that is for the 2600 color. Could you help us to understand the differences b/w tcol and the color input? Could this iinout be used for 8bits Atari computers?

It should. I see no problem

Nop! The cable you have is usb to Rs232. That means it uses - 12v and 12v for communication with other devices. I also have one of those, but you need and old school sio2pc device to make it work (it includes a max232 or similar chip to make the conversion from rs232 voltages levels to 0v and 5v ttl levels). It is easier in your case to just get a new USB to serial already with 5v ttl levels., like the ones recommended. If you can wait, those are very cheap from vendors based on China. Otherwise, those converters are not that expensive either from local vendors. Since you don't have any other Atari devices you can get the cheaper ones and they will work. But for a few more bucks you can get the ones with additional signals like CTS.

Here more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_collector The diode is use to simulate and open collector output, so the TX output won't try to hold the DIN line at 5v level, when another device it setting the bus to 0v.

I agree, you should start with the RAM. It is pretty cheap, easy to get, and usually the most likely cause of problems. Try eBay or aliexpress and I would recommend to get 10 pack to have some spares just in case. Ah, and also get sockets.

There are many tricks in this game. I've never played it before. For example, It took me some time to realized about throwing the ball, and that I can start moving before the end of the music, and that you don't need to eat all the fruits to pass to the next level. The problem is that it is too similar to digdug that it is very hard to unlearn digdug and play the game with another strategy. For example, I keep forgetting I can push apples and kill several monsters, or I always get confused by the monster with the letter and what to do with that, and how to transforms all those ghosts to apples. So far, I am struggling... So I just need to keep playing and getting used to it.

So I guess this game is not for me. I cannot stand it anymore. This was the best I could do 44700.

I guess the problem is not on the 600xl. It might be in your monitor. ntsc only monitors and TVs are unable to "decode" the color signal of the PAL TV standard. That might be the reason you are not getting colors. The UAV will improve the image but if your monitor is NTSC only, it won't help you to get color.

Maybe the SD card is too big? I mean it is sdhc. Not sure, but it's an easy thing to try : get an old sd card not HC, like 1 or 2GB and try again. At least for updating the firmware, I remember I got problems with some high capacities cards. PS. if you are in US you can get very cheap small capacity cards in Gamestop

My 65xe ntsc came with eci and it was mentioned in the manual. Inside included a 130xe motherboard with space and pads for 2 additional memory chips and the emmu. I would love to have that manual back into my hands...

If there are problems with few keys you can desolder the switch clean it and very carefully fix the position of the contacts. I did that (about 12 keys) and is was very time consuming. But I wanted to keep my only Atari with Alps keyboard. More simple solution is to get another keyboard from a broken Atari XL computer but it'd probably won't be an Alps keyboard. Now, taking a keyboard from 600XL with type 2 keyboard, it is not a bad idea, those keyboards are also great.

I first saw this picture and a mini book released together with BTTF3. Back To the Future : The Official Book of the Complete Movie Trilogy. by Klastorin, Michael and Hibbin, Sally So I think that by 1990 there were plenty of Atari XEs

I would love to see a small xf551 board which can fit under the mech. in a 3D printed case like this one: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3287420 So then we can have an "unofficial" 1050 3.5" version. The Sony drives MPF920 with black faceplate are very easy to get. My guess is that this 3D printed case can make a big difference in terms of popularity, instead of a generic case. My 2 cents. (more cents to come your way soon).

PAL 600XL included the video monitor connection working, AFAIK, but not channel switch. So it should be a stock computer.

I've got my diskettes from ebay. You just need to be patient and wait until double density new disks show up a 10 or so dollars in US. As long as they are TDK, Maxell or Verbatim you should be good.

And what about the ram extension for 600xl from Jurgen? It is well priced and it'll replaces the onboard ram chips, the delay line and the ls158s and maybe others. It is a good way to get 512kb quickly and resurrect dead 600xls
