PLATOTERM 1.2 test release with FAST-IO!
manterola replied to tschak909's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Enabling or disabling xon/xoff does not make any difference. -
I was just commenting that someone else already took my offer and asked me to bring a Pokey chip from USA to Germany. I did that as an example of something easy to transport, and at the same time (I assume) hard to get in Germany for a good price. Now, regarding PIAs you can get some in ebay here in USA (it looks like you are in USA). I got one at a good price (less than 10 bucks, shipped) when I needed one. Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/STMICROELECTRONICS-P-MC68B21P-IC-D-NMOS-PIA-IND-68B21-40-DIP/253359642163 Now if your have patience, you can get better prices from China sellers.

I am also traveling, but the other way... going to Germany for a week and coming back to Washington DC the first week of September. I already have one Pokey chip with me to me which will cross the big pond. So if you need something and it is small like a chip, a small pcb or a cartridge just PM me.

I just to add that the sio2pc and sio2sd (other disk drive emulators) are compatible with the 400. It is just that most software disk software requires more than 16kb to run. Do your sio2sd should run, and what I mean by that is that you should hear the sio typical noises of a disk booting.

PLATOTERM 1.2 test release with FAST-IO!
manterola replied to tschak909's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I have a problem with the fast io version both 1.2 and 1.2.1 of Plato (rom cartridge version) . I can send commands to the esp8266, and get connected. However, once I got connected to irata online and asked for credentials nothing happens. I type and I get not echo and Return does nothing. I can hear the typing noise and how the high pitch noise changes as I type, but I got stuck with the login. I decreased the baud to 1200 and tried an older 1200 baud version of Platoterm (a disk version which uses bobverter), and everything works again. I reported months ago that this fastio worked wonderful for me before with the same hardware. I don't know what changed. Is somehow flow ctrl changes in the server breaking the things for me? Maybe? -
There is also a new mylar design and production for 800xl/600xl coming up...

These covers are frequently missed in the 600XL and 800XL computers. So I got some from Best, but they don't fit and are different form the only original one I got (original from my wife 800XL from the 80s). The covers sold by Best are exactly the same as a CHELCO cover I have (exact plastic "seams" and marks), except there is no CHELCO logo. That CHELCO cover came with a beaten 800XL (not chelco) I got and it was inserted in a PBI (very tight) and actually deformed the plastic around the PBI (same happens if I push hard enough with the covers sold by Best). So it looks like there is a couple of different dimensions for these covers and the 800XL cases, I guess Chelco made case PBI opening is larger than the rest of the 800XL. Have you had problems with PBI cover fitting? Any other source of PBI plastic covers (not 3d printed)? What is your knowledge regarding this issue? Many thanks

That's great news!!! All those 600XLs & 800XLs with stackpole keyboards will benefit, I will buy one, once they are ready. EDIT: I realized (by reading best computer website) that there are TWO versions of Stackpole keyboards, that can be identified by counting the number of screws in the lateral metal panel (4 vs 6). I hope it is not late, and you are aware of this.

I have to report that my two sio2midi interfaces are up and running! I was able to program the 12f1572 Pic using the 12f18xy template of xgecu program and TL866 II. The trick is to deselect the Data part, so not write the data section. And also deselect the check device ID. I was able to use midirec and midiplay programs in my 800XL.

Hi SS, I did exactly that. I thought what is the point of getting the Best kit when UVA is simple and better quality image. I thought the most complicated part was to make a hole for the connector, but you just need to measure relative distances and put a mark with a pencil to get a good circular hole in the 600XL case. Also get rid (desolder) of the channel selection switch. The rest is pretty easy: the DIN5 connector is pretty easy to solder, the pads holes are already there , the Audio is already connected. Just need to cut the trace between two DIN5 pins (back of motherboard as you already mentioned) and then get signal to the each DIN pin. Check the images in this post: https://atariage.com/forums/topic/246613-new-video-upgrade-coming-soon/?p=3461801 Go for it!

I populated my first sio2midi board, and then I discover that my tl866 doesn't list pic12f157x. I also tried with minipro in Linux. Is there any way to add it to the list given that the pinout is the same as the 12f18xy? I noticed that the available memory is also different, but it looks like a profile can be created starting from 12f18.. What can I do? Other alternatives? Maybe create a joy2pic interface but I need these sio2midi for Fujiama. Maybe I can order something not that expensive to program these PICs?

That is great news, !!! Another "product" could be (here I go again, so keep tight....) a 1050 inspired or replica case (a 3D printed small 1050 case), which fit the sf551 existent PCB with a standard 3.5 floppy drive (with black faceplate which are very common and easy to get). The case should be something like this... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3287420

It sounds to me a TV artifact. I might be wrong but maybe after while the TV stop waiting for a proper TV signal and it just go blue. Try unplugging and plugging the video connector.

Fujiama 2019 (one week of Atari 8 bit fun)
manterola replied to Mathy's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
We have previously discuss in this thread the electricity plug standards. Mathy pointed out that Germany uses type C. https://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/ I am not very concern about it since all the DC PSUs I am using now are modern and multivoltage (just need some adapters). Not sure If I will bring a disk drive which will need AC I guess I will relay more in carts and sio2pc. But I have a couple of 220VAC/9VAC power supplies if needed. I am also thinking in getting some t-shirts to and maybe is someone needs something which is light and easy to transport (like a chip or something) I can offer bring it with me (for example gamestop have some tempest t shirts). -

Ok thanks! If it work for them we can share the cost. And thanks for the crt! It will be great. -
I wish they'd have a big variety of hardware, so I can order from Video61. For example, I need a new Mylar and keyboard connector to fix a beautiful 800XL with type 4 keyboard. Only Best has that... or a Trackball or mouse. I always end up searching and waiting months in eBay until something shows up.

Fujiama 2019 (one week of Atari 8 bit fun)

Arrive Mon 26th. about 8am , then I need to get back to the airport on Mon Sept 02nd early morning.. about 6am I will bring the light gun since I have it sitting there for about 20 years and have not CRT monitor around, It is small and light enough to bring it in the hopes that someone show up with a crt to Fujiama. I might also bring an 800XL NTSC to exchange (trade) to or just purchase any PAL machine. I am really interested in having a PAL XL or XE for years. I checked some sites and there are train tickets for about 30-35 USD (oneway). But the cheapest car is about 130 USD , which is not that bad. I'll need to learn some words and phrases in German, too ;-) Anyways, let's see how all this goes. Looking forward to have great week. -

I have the tickets to get to Frankfurt!!! Now I need to decide whether I rent a car or take a train (the car might serve as camping tend). I still cannot believe it... I also need to check what I am bringing with me. Maybe a small flat panel NTSC TV, and the SF314 8-bit compatible, a light gun, the 600XL maybe since it is the smallest one. I will see. I will need to assemble the sio2midi, I guess it will be useful to try midimaze -
If you already formatted and created the games collection you just need to run the tool to write the MyPicoDOS menu. I downloaded this zip file from Hias site: https://www.horus.com/~hias/atari/mypdos-4.06.zip I guess you have some type of sio2pc device to make the file myinit.atr (include in the zip file) be seen as D2: for the atari computer to access. So, let's assume you boot your Atari with MyDos and then you put the 720K diskette collection in the D1: real 3.5" drive, and then in D2: you have myinit.atr. so then you load (option L) one of the binaries in D2: for example D2:myinit.com you will be asked some questions and at the end the mypicodos menu is written to D1: That it. Then you boot the newly created 720K disk menu, get your beverage of choice, and enjoy your accomplishment You are very close...

What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
manterola replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
BTW, the 800XL is full socketed with a basic chip I have never seen before, and some, I assume, factory made corrections. -

I have received my new atari with type 1 alps keyboard and it is not in great shape.. It will need some work. The bright side is that the xc12 recorder is great, just as I remember, it is very resilient and just works. I load the old beaten ef60 sony cassette which was already inserted and it booted DK junior at the first try with the exclamation mark loader. Not even belt replacement required. I haven't tried the xf551 disk drive but I got very puzzle by this standard C017945 110vac to 9vac power supply labeled 220v as can be seen in the picture. The plastic box of the psu looks intact and well sealed. But the labeling looks home made. So do you know of some kind of mod that can be applied to transform this psu from 110 to 220vac? Maybe there is some tabs you can use to make the change? I need a new 110 psu anyway, but I'd never seen something like that before. My old xf551 came with a UK made psu, the usual one used for 220v -
I don't understand the problem or what are you trying to do. If you want to copy the atr file to a floppy 3.5" you can use mydos option J. I guess you first need to set the source and the destination drives as double side, double density, 80 tracks. For that purpose use options O and P in the mydos menu.
