What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
manterola replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I will probably try to save those EPROMs. You know, we love fixing stuff even when it makes no economic sense.... Thanks Nezgar, I'll try your technique. Btw, finally I followed your advice and got a tl866ii very cheap from a seller located in US. I got lucky I guess. It works with minipro Linux command line tool, as well. Very happy with it so far. I also got a cheap $6 tooth brush sanitizer, that I use for the original intent, but also works great erasing EPROMs -
Connecting Atari 800XL to Internet BBS
manterola replied to annomatik's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
SIO2IO is coming. Dropcheck is working on it. It includes a printer (parallel) interface, a serial interface and a connector to plug an Esp8266 wifi module or maybe the esp8266 will be included, not sure. -

I got some M27C512 UV eproms from China and the guy sent them in a small plastic bag: two feet broken, all feet bent. Fortunately, not a big lost, just few ICs, but I wonder "how is that possible!!!?!!?" -
Yes, by the shape of the Q and O you can see it isn't a type 4 with mylar. Do you sell the mylar?

I attached the atr image. Dual density, not double sorry, but this menu was the most common in my country, I hope is still useful.
-
Yep. Doesn't work with double density but it does work with dual / enhanced density. Which dos are you using? Which drive do you have? The only menu I have used (the are many more) that work with double density is the one included with mypico dos. It is great for games compilations for the XF551. I am attaching a game disk with menu just in case you want to extract the first sectors and have the menu, or delete my games and add your own games to the disk. games999.atr

I got my AVGCart... THANK YOU I have a question: I partitioned a 2GB SD card in two partitions. Is there any gain on making the second one work like an IDE drive? Do I need to format it again with fdisk APT? Fdisk wants to eliminate everything and redo the MBR. I don't have U1M, just the AVGCart in an expanded 320kb 600XL. In summary, I don't really understand why side emulation is important, and how you can use it. I can access de side menu and run pdm player in my current state. I guess if you use Sparta DOS is when it makes sense....?!?

Hi , I guess you are referring to the menu tool from the pirates chest. I also used to just to copy the sectors and then edit them to change the title until I got to the tool used to create those sectors: http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%201/ATR%20Programs/Applications%20A-Z/Pirate's%20Treasure%20Chest%20A%20-basic.atr Boot your computer with basic and then select "menu something" from the menu (I guess was number 6).

yep. You can use the xf551 circuit and use the sio connectos of the 1050. You just need to find (there are plenty) a 3.5 drive with black faceplate, the black brackets (a liitle more difficult but an off white can be painted to match 1050 color) and you are good to go!. You really don't need a 720k only drive.. a 1.44M drive can also work at double density. Here is an example or a black drive: https://www.ebay.com/itm/DF354H-121F-ALPS-FLOPPY-DISK-DRIVE-3-5-1-44MB-BLACK/323726482554?hash=item4b5f9a1c7a:g:~uMAAOSwsv5cgDcE

XE Super Cart 128 - Midi-Maze Offering
manterola replied to Dropcheck's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hi Lenore, Let me ask you the following to you can point me in the right direction (it would also usefull for other readers)..: Where we can get the sio2midi device? There is a long thread I tried to follow regarding a midi device but at the end they centered in the 1088xel and not in a regular original atari SIO device, so I got lost. Are you planning to sell the PCB for a midi compatible SIO device (that works with midimaze)? those sio midi devices will also work with midi music sioftware and keyboards and drums? As you can see I am lost. -
Jurgen has been playing with the idea of a modified version of the sf551 board that might support 1.44 floppies. It is not a reality yet. It will also need a modified version of the firmware

New owner of 65XE , need a little advice
manterola replied to Aiboman's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I've got the younger brother UnoCart and it is great. It has some limitations, but you can run 95 or 99% or the available software with it: binaries xex, ATRs and car/rom (cartridge images). If you tight on budget I really recommend this cart. Once I got it I almost never used the sio2sd, sio2pc, or original carts anymore (for playing games). -
I didn't know that those Roland cables were sd130. That is cool. I found some cablestogo branded cables in eBay that are compatible with the original Atari SF314/354 , but there are like 1 or 2 available. Notice!!! This sd130 is not the same as the original Atari connector (I guess the original is called din14) Both are round and with a lot of pins, but the distribution of pins is different

I would love to see Super Rally X finished. Maybe the programmer of Bosconian could take the baton -
Today (2019) what drive emulator would you recommend for 800XL?
manterola replied to as4VP's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I thing the Sio device that end up using the most is a laptop with RespeQt and sio2pc. The reason is that most of the time I am trying something interesting I found here in the forum, a new app a new variation of a game, the new Plato, svg rendered, etc. So I need to start my PC anyways to update the files in the SD Card. So now I just connect the cable to the laptop and everything is easier and faster. Don't get me wrong, sio2sd is a great amazing device, but in my case, having a laptop beside the Atari setup, makes the use of a PC much more convenient, and RespeQt is an amazing piece of software, you can swap disk, view the disk content, extract and add individual files, create new disk, load cassette images, and much more, with the convenience of a mouse and big screen. -
I have used my xm301 over Google voice using an OBi, so essentially was over internet. It worked perfectly. I guess that 300baud is not enough to make the communication fail.

XF551 Mixed-Original Parts Bare PCBs

We are talking about this kind of drive selection: in the floppy 3.5 mechanism it self, not the Atari drive selection. -
Somebody have it? I want adjust the color phase pote
-
BTW, the link to uav_xex.zip is broken, and I could not find an alternative site to download it.
-
Great!. I didn't know how to adjust the potentiometer for color phase. And I didn't know about the split pad for ground and 5V. I just connected GND to the pad. So what is the problem of not cutting the center connection of the pad?
-
I guess the sounds the program makes it to tell you that something is happening out of screen, so you might need to change the scale accordingly. Am I right?

Probably this also works.. less than a dollar and some patience https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.ca%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F312519249465 I have something very very similar this one: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F311904054937 I just tried and connected TX to din,RX to Dout, and gnd to Gnd. I started RespeQt set the handshake method to none. It worked perfectly. That is probably the cheapest you can go.

Fixing Atari 600 XL Keyboard (= key remains on)
manterola replied to pollyisagoodbird's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Don't need to disassemble yet. Check continuity or inspect the 5th connection in the keyboard connector. Ctrl should not be working either. If everything ok. Probably it is a cut trace in the mylar. -
Cassettes that play sound while they load.
manterola replied to FULS's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
This is somehow related to the original question. Yesterday I was listening the xlxe podcast from some guys in New Zealand. They mentioned that you can play Galaxian with music you want, since this game activates the motor Ctrl signal. So once at home I tried it, and it is true!: You can play Galaxian and listen a mix of the game sounds and your favorite music thru the TV speakers... I never seen mentioned this fact here before. -
