  1. I would love to put my hands on the files mentioned in the atarimania FAQ where DSR & RD are mentioned (I would like to read rts cts) "- The A.I.D. R-Verter was distributed with 4 different R: handler versions, originally written by Royce W. Powell, © April, 1984 by A.I.D.: - RHAND1.OBJ - R: handler supporting DSR & RD - nearly identical: RVDOSXL.COM (version for DOS XL?) - RHAND1C.OBJ - R: handler supporting DSR & CD - RHAND2.OBJ - R: handler supporting DSR & RD and translation tables - RHAND2C.OBJ - R: handler supporting DSR & CD and translation tables" And then renamed Supra (previously AID) distributed these two modem with the renamed "Supraverter" which according with the FAQ supports auto answering... "==> 1200AT, by Supra (1987) - Same as: E+E DataComm Avatex 1200 - Low Speed Mode: 0-300 bit/s, binary, serial, asynchronous, Bell 103 compatible - High Speed Mode: 1200 bit/s character-asynchronous, Bell 212A compatible - Command Set: 8 Hayes "AT" commands (other options fixed or not needed) - Auto-answer - Auto dial (tone or pulse) - (No speaker) - Connects to SIO via included SupraVerter interface - Smart Terminal disk - CompuServe DemoPak and Delphi membership ==> SupraModem 2400AT, by Supra (1988) - Asynchronous operation at 300, 1200, or 2400 bit/s - Compatibilities: Bell 103, Bell 212A, V.22, V.22bis - Hayes "AT" command compatible (100%) - Auto-answer - Auto dial (tone or pulse) - Speaker built-in - Connects to SIO via included SupraVerter interface - Smart Terminal disk"
  2. Hi Marcin, We know that Motor Ctrl signals are used to disconnect tx rx lines from Din and DOut. You can check it by yourself by loading any terminal program like bobterm (previously load rverter handler) and press play in your cassette player (if you have one, if not maybe with a multitester), it should start playing the cassette. If you ask for example, for a disk directory, the cassette player will stop for 1 or 2 seconds, and then continue after the file listing is complete. The thing I want to check now is whether proceed or/and other SIO lines are really used by rverter fast handler (the one include with bobterm) to detect ring or/and to implement hardware flow control.
  3. Great!.. Do you plan or already have some kind of page preview, and print dialog for the other printers?.
  4. I am also too bad with the soldering iron, but the excitement of getting something very, very close to the mythical xf351 was just enough to even try to fit the 1088XEL floppy board to the ST floppy case (that's how this topic started). But this is my opinion, I really struggle with the iron, and I get frustrated, but I think, at least for me, is part of hobby... I was thinking in try to reproduce the XE styled badge (just by laser printing or something else simple like covering the blue "Atari" with a red "Atari") to make it even more similar to the xf351, maybe call it XF354 or XF314.
  5. Check this out. This is the thread in which we talk about it: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/266022-output-to-pc-text-file-or-pc-printer/?do=findComment&comment=4177525
  6. This looks awesome!. Congrats. By the way, could you upload the latest version of your tool to send commands at high baud rate?. I got lost in that long thread and I could not find it
  7. I can try to add support for esc/p to RespeQt... There is at least two open source projects that I have already studied which implemented esc/p. There is also a nice brother document which documents esc/p nicely. I already modified the sio2linux program to capture raw printer data and save it to a file. Then using several esc/p to PDF converters , I was able to create an PDF and print in modern printer. Those esc/p to PDF atentamente mostly close source windows tools, but there are a couple Linux open source, one of them from the retroprinter project. It is quite slow, though, but the know-how is there. Tell me how to help
  8. The Atari FAQ mentions several versions of the Rverter handler. It explicitly says that the original handler developed by AID supports flow control. The sx212 handler from S.P.A.C.E. that I downloaded from umich also mentioned flow control. But all those versions are basically lost. Or at least not easily available. For example someone here once uploaded an scan of the original AID Rverter source code, but I have never been able to find an image of the drivers disk. Maybe somebody here have it?.... And what about the fast Rverter handler included with bobterm? It is available but Does it support Hardware flow control?. Have anybody tested it? Or How do I test if it is really working? Like setting some Sio signal to ground and check if the terminal really stop the transmission, or something like that... In summary, any help/knowledge regarding this piece of software would be appreciated
  9. There are: those joystick extenders can be used. Most of them have all the pines connected, so you might need to add a female db9 to youir design... I guess you already did it. And there are pretty cheap if you cultivate the skill of... patience... (they come from China)
  10. The din 13p I guess it is... Ok that cable male connector is very difficult to find... So that explain the change. You can choose not to put the connector and just solder half SIO cable to the PCB, similar to xf351, or 410 cassette recorder. But anyway, you can still put this 3.5 drive in the middle of the SIO chain., Since there are two I/O connectors
  11. Maybe you can show us a video...? Sorry I am so excited that I cannot wait to see it in action.
  12. That 65XE is calling for a couple of TMS4464 and an EMMU. Sorry I can't help it
  13. I experienced similar problem with a socketed 600xl At the end the failure happened because the original old and cheap sockets where about to break down and moving and working on the motherboard finally killed the sockets (not enough presume from the inside metallic contact spring to connect properly). Obviously, at the time I thought I made a mistake, so then I went back. The problem persisted.... black screen, sometimes red screen, changed the osrom, ram chips, got a new PIA and changed it. Finally, I did what I should have done before: first check very close (with a magnifying glass even better) the traces near I made the modifications, see if there were any suspicious looking element, and then bingo!. Both The Antic and CPU sockets with ICs inserted had a mild misalignment in the internal contacts (the IC feet where in a perfect line but the contacts were not), if I took the IC off , they looked ok. Then I tried continuity with the multi-tester from the shoulder of the IC (like antic) to the next connection point, let's say a resistor (I was using available schematics for the 600xl) and No CONTINUITY! even if I move and push the Antic IC, even when the two metallic parts (IC foot and socket contact) looked touching each other! 6502 cpu, same problem. I replaced those two sockets, and since then no other problem. But If happen again, my first suspect would be the old sockets. In summary, check continuity and also inspect the motherboard thoroughly.
  14. That same (bad) quality is what I would expect from the RF. I never got any better from my 600xl or 130xe. The good thing is that you got a PAL 600xl with composite and svideo included. I needed to add an UAV, solder the Din 5 pin and make a new opening in the case to have svideo signal connection.
  15. Finally!, After many months, a friend brought me my new XC11 from San Pedro de la Paz, Chile. It looked dirty and ugly from outside, but it was nothing compared to the inside. Still very excited to clean it, fix it and use it. I also got an Atari 800XL. It doesn't boot. Not only dirty inside but also all rusty.
  16. I used exactly those!: 4464-10NL check the picture
  17. Things are going great. Dropcheck will provide more news and details. The PCB is meant to be installed in the SF314 case and it reuses the On/Off switch, Din5 male power connector, inductors and power and data floppy half cables, but might be used without a case (or with another case) and those parts be sourced elsewhere. I'd also like to have an XL styled 3.5 floppy drive... someday...
  18. This is what I did for my 600xl... It is super simple: soldering two wires and a third one not soldered used as a jumper. I like it because it requires no change to the PCB. I went for this method since I am bad with the soldeing iron and I was scared of damaging the motherboard, and this method if you do something wrong you can destroy the ls158 or the ls375 which you can still find very easily in eBay. It can be performed in 10 minutes if you go slow and carefully. I think is similar to Mathy's one, but in this one I just took off the U18 and save it for later, if need to go back to stock. AFAIK, all different versions do the same: first find A14 and A15 in some point and feed it to the pair of ls158 (which originally have their A14 and A15 pins connected to GND, so you need to lift those pins) And finally bypass in some way the U18 since that logic is not needed anymore to route the CAS signal. ah! and obviously change the memory DRAM chips.
  19. I found this info.. you can cross check if is what you did. I quick check looks like you get similar information of the 850 pinout, except for pin 9 and 10 which is not clear. I also found that another picture which shows 5v redirected to the fault line. Maybe leaving pin 9 and/or 10 open will make the trick..? More info about the 850 pronter interface: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/268144-atari-850-interface/ If you have a tester, check continuity and also check whether there are two or more pins connected that shouldn't.
  20. My guess: something wrong with the 850 or the cable. Most likely the cable: maybe a couple of wires (bits) crossed? Since the printer received data and it prints, the problem is that it prints garbage. Finally, I don't know the Epson options, but my experience after playing with my printer emulator is that EOL conversion should be on and data set to 8bits. But LF+CR should be off. That's what I got to print successfully from The Print Shop (I guess the print test with the diamond is to actuallyset the CR addition on of off, but I am not that sure).
  21. I'd love to have a good cassette player to create a quality backup in FLAC or MP3.
  22. I was playing Montezuma revenge from the sdcard when suddenly it got stuck with the screen picture corrupt with horizontal lines and a persistent sound (noise). So I turn the flashback portable off and the on and it booted and everything looked back to normal. But after 30 seconds or more it happened again. After I turned it off and on it was back to normal but just for a few seconds. Every time the normal state lasted less and less. Now not even get to the Atari logo screen. This happened after the second time I charge it connected to the windows PC.l USB. Any ideas? Is there a way to factory reset it?

  24. Yes I tried with and without basic. I am actually (at this point) very puzzled about this game, since I wasn;'t able to make the disk version work, either. I'll check with Altirra. I noticed that Wordrace is not in Atarimania, that's why i think is important to preserve it. I am glad there are backups already.
  25. Hi All, I have an original "Wordrace" yellow cassette. The cassette has both data and music in both sides. I got it from a lot together with o'reily mine original also in cassette. I tried oreily and it works, but Wordrace is for original Atari 800 (with old OS), and I could not make it work with any translator in my XL machine. I haven't be able to create a backup since I have not find someone with a cassette player. The only cassette available to me now the Atari 1010 itself. I would like to ask if someone is interested in creating the back-up of wordrace (O'reily's mine is already in cas format in Atarimania, but you might want to make a back up of it, also). I think wordrace is interesting to back up since at least it uses the audio channel for something. I am located close to Washington, DC but I can send cassettes by mail, too.
