In the '70s anyone who owned any type of home video system was the guy to know. Somewhere around '76ish my family got a pong system, although I don't recall what brand. Our house was the place to be. Every kid in the nieghborhood wanted to hang out at our place. A couple years later we got a Sears Telegames system and the pong dissapeared (garage sale maybe). About the same time my friend across the street got an Odysey. So pretty much everyone in the neighborhood was either at his place or at mine. There was no "my system is better than yours" BS. We were just thrilled to have access to so many games, which at the time was only maybe a half dozen combined, but it seemed like our own personal arcade. -S

They have these new at Walmart near where I live for $20. If they really sell for $40 I may buy a few and ebay them myself. -S

That's pretty much the same goal I currently have. I managed to dig up a box of about 20 carts that actually were mine as a kid when going thorough some old stuff' I'm up to somewhere around 70 now, but am mysteriously missing Space Invaders. Not for long though, I've got yet another system on it's way with a few loose carts. Space Invaders is in the lot. -S

I'd rather have a '69 Z28 than any Viper. Babe Ruth is the greatest athelete of all time. The original King Kong is a classic and the '76 version was garbage. Of course these are all just my opinions, much like my view of Pitfall is also just my opinion. -S

Here's a good tip. Play this game in a closed room free of distractions. I played it in the living room last night with my wife talking to me and never managed to break 1000. I'll play tonight in the seclusion of the game room. This game was a big favorite of mine when I was a kid. I remember being able to roll the score without too much trouble back then. Clearly I'm way out of practice. -S

I'm not arguing with you at all on this, I was just wondering if you'd care to elaborate for the benefit of those of us who are new to IDing the various 2600 models. I'm not new to Atari by any means, but I am new to the whole idea of determining a specific console's vintage and location of manufacture. -S

I'd like to propose a slight adjustment to the rules. If possible it would be nice if the next person in line were allowed to announce his game a week in advance. The reason for this is so that if we don't already have that game it will give us a few days to get it (for those of us who prefer not use emulation). Just a thought. -S

That LotR screen shot does look really wierd. As far as th eothers go, I remember as a kid often being dissapointed by the actual game after seeing a "screen shot" in a catalog or magazine. After a while I came to disregard them altogether. -S

It was the first scrolling run and jump platform game that I ever remember seeing on a home gaming system. A zillion and one platform games that came after it were influenced by it. I don't know if there were others before it or not, but this was the first one that I remember everyone either having or at least having played it. Okay, it seems really blah by today's standards, but in the days when the 2600 ruled the home gameing scene it was nothing short of incredible. -S

Pitfall! changed everything. GTA3, while I agree is a very good game, only enhanced what had come before. -S
