  1. Being a huge fan of Vector arcade games I have to disagree with that (not that my opinion is any more valid than yours! :) ). Plus IMO battlezone really should be played with two joysticks. I was pleased to find the hack that allows you to do this.

  2. Clearly all of the arcade translations were inferior to the genuine arcade versions. The 2600 was just too limited to compete. I'm not saying that the games weren't fun and very playable, because many of them were. I think I must have put about a million miles on Ms. Pac Man. Mario Brothers is another one that I played to death. The original Atari games were always much better than the translated arcade games. Adventure, Superman, Yar's Revenge, etc etc etc.

  3. I have a SlikStik Tornado spinner on my MAME cab. Cost about $90 +shipping, but it is about as close to perfect as spinner controls come in my opinion. Vastly superior to anything you'll find on a genuine arcade cabinet.

Of course I'm a Tempest junkie, so it was worth it to me just be able to play that one game with the correct type of control.

  4. I like this:

There was a limited quanity of this tipe of atari 2600 made

There was a limited quantity of everything ever made. Show me something that was ever made in unlimited quantity.

  5. Man, I didn't even realize there *were* that many homebrews :D

I imagine I have close to the greatest homebrew quotient as I only got my 2600 when I started coding for it and thus the vast bulk of my carts have come from AtariAge, but it's really quite modest compared to some of you guys.  I'll have to bookmark this thread and post a picture the next time I have all my carts together ;)

I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. Almost all of my carts are left over from my mis-spent youth. Since my interest in the 2600 has only rekindled in the last few months, I wasn't even aware of homebrews until just recently. As a result I don't own any HB carts at all, a situation I intend to remedy shortly.

  6. I expressed interest in another thread regarding this device, but I'll do it here as well. I've been away from the Atari scene for too long it seems! I'm staggered at the number of new products that are being offfered! In any case once this is ready for sale I'd be quite interested in buying one from you depending on final price and features.

  7. Is it just me or is Warlords one of the best 2600 games ever?

Not just you! Warlords was always my favorite game that uses paddles. Good stuff!

  8. Superman is one of the very best 2600 games IMO early or otherwise. I used to have it, but alas it's one that's dissapeared from my collection over the years. I've just recently gotten back into the Atari scene, and Superman is very high on my games to get list.

  9. Maybe instead of playing modern controllers on older consoles, someone should make an adapter to play 2600 controllers on newer consoles...   :P

That would be super easy to make yourself, since the 2600 joystick is probably the simplest controller ever.

  10. On a side note, did anyone other than me drink gallons of Kool-Aid back in the 1980's in order to score enough Kool Aid points for a free copy of the game?

You know I did! I do remember that game being pretty fun, but I have no idea what happened to it. Odd since I still have most of the other games I had as a kid.

  11. I'm curious about this as well. If I buy an EPROM burner is it just a matter of downloading the ROM images online and then burning them to an EPROM, then soldering the EPROM onto one of the cards available on this site? Is there more to it than this? I have plenty of soldering experience so the actual physical ssembly of the PCB wouldn't be a problem. I'm just curious if the process of burning an EPROM is more or less the same as burning a CD or is there more to it? Also will any EPROM burner do the trick or is there a specific type that's needed.

My apologies if this is a subject that's been done to death already. I'm not very good at finding what I'm looking for by searching forums.
