Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
Stingray replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
I got sound, but no video. I downloaded a codec installer that seemed like it would fix the problem but it didn't. -S -
Mario Vs. Donkey Kong is not only the best GBA game IMO, but it's also one of my favorites on any platform. Metroid Zero Mission & Metroid Fusion are another couple of really good ones. -S

Super neat item! -S

Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
Stingray replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
I live in the "Tulsa Area" which isn't rural either. Tulsa just happens to be the nearest major city to where I live. My only point is you guys are reading too much into the dialup internet. I know quite a few people who live in town who still use dialup. Broadband just isn't important to a lot of people. I don't know if this thread is an April fools joke or not, but actual story about Atari dumping carts has always seemed real to me. Companies dump excess inventory all the time for a write off. -S -
My goodness that is a coincidence isn't it? -S

Again, if you live in a rural area it doesn't matter if you have a 56k or 28k modem. The fastest I can connect is bout 26k. I'm told this is due to the distance I am from the nearest switching station (or whatever it's called). This is why I do about 90% of my web browsing at work on our dual T1. -S -
Atari 2600 System Featured on TV Show CSI Miami

I don't watch that show. Somebody make some screen caps to share! -S -
Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
Stingray replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
Sometimes it's not a case of being able to afford it. I have a whole pile of gadgets, but I only have dial-up at home because I live in very rural area where broadband just isn't available. -S -
Same story here. They also had a pile of DSs back when everyone was having a hard time finding them. -S

If that's true, then I would expect a product similar to HD Advance to show up soon that will allow loading SW from a memory stick. Like Jeepnut said, if it's encrypted, there's always a way to defeat it. That would kick ass, especially if it were distributed on a UMD disc so we wouldn't have to void our warranties. Like I said though, I don't think this is happening today, tomorrow, or anytime soon It's happened. It has? More info please! -S

Does anyone have botha PSP and a DS...
Stingray replied to BTHOTU's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I think only a couple of us are arguing, the rest of us are just shootin' the poop about the new handhelds. What else would you expect out of a pack of video game geeks? -S -

That's probably your best bet. As much as I hate to endorse Wal-Mart, if I were going to buy a PSP that's where I'd get it. On the chance that you get a dead pixel you can just exchange it (save that reciept) and tell them the display is defective. I've never had anyone at the Wal-Mart service desk question a return, and they probably won't even turn it on to check. -S

HDAdvance fixes that problem. -S

My GBA SP has had a dead pixel since day one, it never bothered me. Now if it were 20, I expect I'd be furious. Seems I remember reading somewhere that the PSP has to have at least two dead pixels before Sony will replace it. I guess that's reasonable, but if I shelled out $250 for a PSP I'd probably want a replacement even if it were only one. -S

I agree that it's only a matter of time before the emulators start to appear. Once that happens I'm pretty sure my resolve to not buy one until a big price drop happens will start to erode quickly. -S

Me too, because I expect DS prices to drop down to a level that I think is reasonable once the new GB is out. -S -
Although I don't own either (yet) I'll probably own both eventually, and I thought the picture was kind of funny. -S

Spud, I know you've already had offers to host your files, but what the heck, I'll offer too. I can set you up with an FTP password so you can upload them directly. Send me a PM if you're interested. Getting pretty close to April 1... -S -
Sony forced to take PS2 off the shelves
Stingray replied to AtariDude's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Already a thread on this: http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=67008 But Nova is correct. There's no way Sony is going to pull the PS2. They'll certainly be on the shelves until the appeal process is finished, and the PS3 could be out by then. Even if they lost the appeal, worst case scenario is that Sony would just have to write a big check to Immersion. Sony absolutly will not stop selling their big cash cow until they decide to. -S -

Stingray replied to BTHOTU's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Ah, exactly! Currently I own neither, as I personally feel that both are overpriced at the moment and neither has an overwhelming number of great games available yet. I feel very strongly that this will change beofore long. I'm sure that eventually I'll buy both. Still haven't decided which one to get first, but that's still largely dependent on which one has the first price drop. -S -
Latest crappy "classic" collections. Vomitous.
Stingray replied to Flojomojo's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Classic compilations just have never appealed to me. I find it much more rewarding to track down an original cart for an original system that to play classic games on a modern system. As far as arcade-perfect versions of old arcade classics go, well that's why I built my MAME cabinet. The one exeption to this rule is regarding handhelds. I buy classic comilations for my GBA now & then so I can play a few old favorites when I'm away from home. -S -
According to this article, it's a fake: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=7607 Anyway, everyone knows that this is what the PS3 is going to look like: -S
-
That's what it looks liike to me. Is there a classic complilation available? I expect it's only a amatter of time before there's a MAME version available for it, once that happens I'll probably have to pick one up regardless of the fact that they're too expensive. -S
