Would you buy a Revolution if launched with Mario?
Stingray replied to Dones's topic in Modern Console Discussion
A Mario platform game? You bet! Luigi's Mansion 2? Nearly as good. Mario {fill in any sport name here}? No, I'll wait for the release of a real Mario game. -S -
What you mean like blow up a building or smash a car into a tree a 100 MPH. I guess I could, but that's not the kind of thing that people can actually get away with for very long. In serious answer to the original question, yes I think the current gen is fine for some time to come, hey I just got a Gamecube this month. -S

I almost certainly will and I have never purchased a system at launch (I got my VCS at launch, but since my parents bought that for me when I was seven years old, it hardly counts). I love the idea behind this new controller and personally I think it's got a huge amount of potential. In the current generation, I bought a PS2 first and was planning on buying a PS3 first next gen. However this recent info about the controller and all of the innovation that it could offer makes me want to try a Revolution as soon as it hits the shelves. I just got a Gamecube this month and having gotten it made me realise that I waited far, far too long to have some new (to me) Nintendo gaming. At this point the only two things that will stop me from buying a Revolution at launch would be either if the game lineup looks very weak, or if I just happen to be flat broke at the time. -S

From the 1UP review: "incredibly responsive to even slight wrist movements-I barely had to move my hand at all" and "At first, I was standing up and swinging my hand all around to aim - and my arms got really tired really quick. But once I sat down and relaxed, resting my hands on my legs as I would with a normal controller, everything clicked." I don't think that anyone at Nintendo expects us to be up running around the room wildly flailing both arms in every direction in the manner that you seem to envision. -S

I'm amazed at all of the snap negativity in this thread. Personally, I'm very excited to try it and my mind is reeling with the possibilities that it opens up for some fresh gaming content. Obviously, like everyone else here, I can't say for sure if I like it until I give it a go, and of course there is the very real possibility that I will be dissapointed. For now, however, I can't wait for my first chance to play a game or two with it. And I'd feel the same regardless of who made it, for whatever that's worth. -S

Exactly why I don't play RPGs for the most part. Too much predetermined script following. -S

You have no idea what kind of act of sheer willpower that it took me to keep from buying that. It's just nothing but super-duper cool. -S

Hopefully this will turn out to be a success so more of the other titles mentioned in this thread can have a similar rebirth. I'm a huge fan of all of the Lucasarts point & click adventure titles. I'd have to say that Sam & Max was my second favorite, Day of the Tentacle is absolutely the best of the genre IMO. -S

Interested in just the Jag CD. -S

Have you ever played an NGage? It's completely unlike playing games on any phone that I've personally ever used. Rest assured that Nokia designed it for games first, phone calls second. -S
-
I have seen on some of the NGage groups that some NGage games have been hacked to run on some Symbian OS phones. These are pirated copies however. Officially, no NGage games are supposed to run on anything but an NGage. As far as I know an NGage will run any Symbian OS app. -S

I guess I never got the whole concept of simulated pets. I have plenty of flesh & blood varmits in my life (we live in the boonies, every stray within 10 miles eventually finds it's way to my house). I spend enough of my time taking care of animals. When I play video games I'd rather shoot at aliens or stomp on mushroom creatures turning them into a shiny gold coin. Having said that, I'll probably try Nintendogs and say "oh I get it now" and promptly buy a DS. -S
-
Well most of it is in first person view. There is much shooting involved. As far as my personal gaming outlook goes, that makes it a FPS. What would you call it? -S

I've been able to buy every bulb I need at NAPA Auto Parts. If they don't stock it, they can have it next day. If you don't know what bulb you need, bring in the dead one and they can match it up for you. -S
-
Well, that and the fact that it's an incredible game. -S

I'm a big Metroid fan from way back. I've played all of them to completion except for the latest two. I just bought a gamecube last week. Despite the fact that I hate FPS games with a passion, I got Metroid Prime anyway. I'm quite pleased that Metroid made the translation to FPS very nicely. I only played it for a few minutes (I bought several games, chose to play Mario Sunshine first) but I do look forward to some serious play time once I get to this one. Kudos to Nintendo for actually creating a FPS that I find to be playable. -S

Pretty much the same reasoning I used when I got one. Note that the fact that it's now available in silver would have effected my decision to purchase not in the slightest. -S

THat's also one of my favorite dirty tricks in that particular game. -S

Bluetooth is kind of a PITA to set up. Easier to get a card reader. Both work fine for me, but the card reader was just plug & play BT took about an hour to configure. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory? I actually quite like that one. Pandemonium is pretty good. Tomb Raider is cool, just because it's Tomb Raider. I also kind of like the Sims game. The Snakes game is free & looks neat, but IMO plays like ass. Rayman 3, I enjoyed somewhat, but have to admit that I really haven't played it much. -S

What is it with games based on movies?
Stingray replied to Room 34's topic in Modern Console Discussion
You're going to judge the entireity of the industry based on a single game from a company that's famous for making shitty games? And one that's expected to sell based on name recognition, on top of it all? Great plan if you want to save money. 901869 Yes 902329 I feel exactly the same way about the upcoming Godfather game. One of the best movies of all time. If EA screws this one up, I may have to firebomb their headquarters. -S -
My TRS-80 screwed up the TV reception in my bedroom, because that TV had rabbit ears (those are TV antennas, kids). Didn't mess up the TV in the living room because it had cable. -S

The Crash's Effect on Gamers
Stingray replied to Great Hierophant's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I never saw this. The NES was the system at the time. You were either playing an NES or you were being ridiculed for still playing your Atari. Yes, it was expensive. I wasn't able to buy my own until '88 or so, but even then it was still ultra-cool to have a Nintendo. I didn't know anybody who didn't want one. I knew few people who didn't own one. This where someone will surely start talking about how great Tempest 2000 is. My take is that the graphics leave a lot to be desired, but the main problem is the controller. You're either playing Tempest with a weighted spinner or you're not playing Tempest. -S -
I explore everything, but I also cheat shamelessly. -S

A stupid question about demo DVDs from OPM.
Stingray replied to snorlaxnut's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Same with me. Never ordered it, but there it is. -S -
I've really enjoyed Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on the N-Gage. There's an Atari Retro collection that I play a lot. That one is also available on quite a few other handheld devices. -S
