ColecoVision P.O.P. Display Kiosk Update
doubledown replied to doubledown's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Curt, Recently someone had mentioned that someone had re-created some display kiosks and through some searching I had found your site. I remember reading that you didn't have actual dimensions for them, but rather guessed on the sizes. I plan on, for at least the purpose of saving history, getting together a complete list of all pieces and sizes for the unit. Give me a couple days and I should be able to have it all worked out and posted here for you. I did notice on yours that the color transfer scheme in your ColecoVision logo is inaccurate. You have it going from red through blue, and red through blue. It's supposed to be red through blue through red. The graphics next to the monitor and below the console/controller panel would add a little more to it too. Anybody know who can scan things that large for reproduction? Joey, I just took some preliminary measurements last night and figured out that the unit will fit in a small room that I have in my basement gameroom/workshop. First I need to get a ton of stuff out of there and do some remodeling, including notching out the floor joists a bit. The unit itself needs a little bit of cleaning, and the chrome T-molding needs to be replaced, but other than that it's in great shape. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with it as far as modifications and upgrades though. By the way your ColecoVision should be done tonight barring any unforseen cotrastrophes or other interruptions (girlfriend). -

Thanks for all of the happy thoughts and congratulations. I don't only consider this a prize piece in my collection, but a preservation of history. I just can't wait untill I re-arrange and re-model part of my basement and get the unit completely refurbished and modded for the ultimate ColecoVision experience. -

Holy crap that's expensive. I'd need to sell 11 modded ColecoVisions just to pay for the booth. -

After the contest ended Eduardo and I had discussed this as an annual event. We need to come up with some good contest ideas, and prizes and what not. -

Bring it to Philly Classic - I'll chip in for the table cost 852796 I'd love to, maybe you could also help chip in for the 50+ gallons of gas and the hotel costs too. Not to mention having to borrow my friend's van again and having to tear the unit down, assemble it, tear it down, and re-assemble it without any major damage happening to it. But I really would love to have it there though. -

It really is about the baddest thing on the planet. I almost wish I had a store so that I could display it there. It is a thing of beauty and should be admired by it's adoring fans. -
I too am a big fan of controller collecting. I've got just around 150 right now. The Saturn and Dreamcast twin sticks are sweet, I've got a pair of the Saturn ones and just one for the Dreamcast. I also like hand held racing wheels too, I think I've got most of the ones ever released. My new favorite controllers are on my new ColecoVison Store Display though.

I am still really excited about it. When I got to see it for the first time I would have loved to have been able to see my face. After Ben and I had been talking about it and other things for about an hour he had told me that I was like a kid in a candy store to him. Mostly because after seeing the unit and playing Zaxxon and Donkey Kong for a while we had opened up the sliding doors to discover the Display's instruction manual and boxes for all of the games he had too. -

Well 600 miles and 9.5 hours each way, but well worth it. No problems with the travel. Fortunately my buddy lent me his mini-van, so I got 450 miles to a tank of gas instead of the 280 miles per tank that my SUV gets with the same size gas tank. Saved me about $120 in gas money alone, not to mention that it wouldn't fit in my VehiCROSS. -

Yeah it's Head to Head Football -
I remember the boss in Prince of Persia 2. I got the game after it had been discounted, played it briefly and put it away. Couple of years later I thought I'd give it another try. After a couple days of dedicated playing after work and what not I got to the boss. He is a tough son of a bitch. You have a certain amount of time that you have to beat him in too, which sucks. Then when I finally beat him, I go to save the girl, and what do you know, he's not dead at all, I have to fight him again. I did beat him, but what a pain in the ass. I remember when I got Power Stone for the Dreamcast. I instantly loved the game and was hooked by all of the hidden unlockable things to get, so of course I set out to beat the game. I got pretty damn good and of course got to the boss, what a pain in the ass. I remember that I actually broke an ottoman after losing to him for the umpteenth time. I did eventually beat him though, and of course after you beat him, he transforms into a giant slug type creature and you get to fight him again. I hate the double end bosses.

The box fronts on the lower doors are the original posters made for the display. The posters and advertising materials on the side are not original, but nice and vintage though. -

Fortunately it comes apart. Two sides, one header piece, one bottom piece, the control/console panel, two doors, one shelf and some small pieces in the back. It's gonna be a long drive home though. -
As some of you may already know I recently won this auction for a vintage ColecoVision P.O.P. Display Kiosk http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 Currently I am here in New York picking it up. Keep in mind I live in Toledo, OH, about 10 hours west of here. I called the seller, Ben, tonight to let him know that I was in town. He asked me to stop by tonight to check it out before we disassembled it tomorrow and loaded it up for it's 600 mile journey to it's new home. Apparently he won a Zaxxon high score contest at a Toys 'R Us when he was a kid to obtain this holiest of Holy Grails. We journeyed down to his basement to check out the display. (Boxing Ring Announcer's Voice) "In this corner, standing at 6', 11 and 1/4" tall and weighing in at around 350 lbs., The ColecoVision Display Kiosk." I'm not kidding you I about flipped out when I saw how damn big this thing really was. I know that the auction listed the dimensions, but I thought that maybe he was wrong, but nope, dead on. So after talking for about an hour and a half, about this and that, and the 2002 Lamborghini Diablo he owns, sitting in his driveway we decided to look a little closer at the unit to figure out how to take it apart. Upon closer examination, I discovered a few nice little extras: Box and manual for the ColecoVision console (near-mint) Box and manual for the Steering Wheel Module (mint) Boxes and manuals for all of the games that he had listed it the auction, plus a couple extra games that he had found shortly after he had listed it (near-mint to mint) June 1983 "Video Games" magazine (near-mint) A receipt from 1983 when he bought his copy (now mine) of Pitstop with a retail price of $38.95 The key (with a Centipede keychain) for the cabinet lock The original TV in working order And last, but definately most important: The instruction manual for the Display Kiosk That's right he has the damn manual for the Kiosk, I couldn't believe it. I remember when we were talking, he had mentioned that at some point after he had grown up and moved out his mother told him to get that thing out of her house, she didn't care how, she didn't care if he had to use a saw to slice it up and throw it away, just get it out of her house. At some point after he had told me the story the phone rang, it happened to be his mother and he explained to her that the guy, me, who bought the thing that she wanted him to throw away, was there to pick it up. I took a couple of more pics that I've attached to this. Unfortunately the room that the Display was is was somewhat small and dimly lit so I couldn't get great pics, but here they are anyway. I'll upload some better pics when I get it home, and completely refurbished.

Yeah, about a year or so ago, I picked up a dozen or so of the Sega CD/Saturn cases, some Game Boy/Game Boy Color games cases, and some SNES cartridge dust covers. No problems at all.

http://www.usedgames.com/display/?view=scd..._CD_Accessories 7th, 8th, and 9th items down on the list. I got some new ones from them in the past.

Do you mean the "Card-Edge Connector?"

My girlfriend is actually excited that I won it. I'm planning on picking it up, and she wants to go because she's never been to New York. -

Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine. The ultimate in ColecoVision Holy Grails. Forget the Super Sketch or any other game or piece of hardware. This is the one. Now all I have to figure out is how the hell I'm going to get it home, and where the hell I'm going to put it. I'll post some better pics once I get it. -
Question about Atari vs. Coleco systems
doubledown replied to RickHarrisMaine's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Based on this list, the exclusive exclusives (i.e., not appearing on any of the other 4 systems) are these: Colecovision: Dragon's Lair Frenzy Pepper II Rip Cord Root Beer Tapper Side Track Slither Space Fury Space Panic Spectar Subroc Victory 7800: Food Fight Galaga Hat Trick Mat Mania Challenge Pole Position II 5200: Qix Space Dungeon 846430 Dragon's Lair was for the Adam, but I guess close enough. Rip Cord was never released or any known prototype found that I know of. Tapper was available on the 2600 wasn't it? Side Track was never released or any known prototype found that I know of. I've never heard of Spectar. -
Quote from the description page: "This is my recent project - the "Woodcube". It contains a Super NES, a Playstation and a Nintendo 64. I think the pictures speak for themselves." Yeah, the pictures speak for themselves alright. They're saying "What a F*%KING PIECE OF S*%T I AM!"

Question about Atari vs. Coleco systems
doubledown replied to RickHarrisMaine's topic in Classic Console Discussion
So...the $1000000 question(s): Which of those are exclusive, which are available on the 5200/7800, and what other arcade ports are exclusive to the other platforms? Edit: And, of course, where the same game is on multiple platforms, which version is best? 845156 Well I posted the ColecoVision list, we need two more people to populate the "Arcade Port" lists for the 5200 and the 7800, any volunteers. -

I have them both and I think they're awesome!! But seriously if anybody here wants both Super DK and Super DKJ, I'll make this deal. $65.00 for both including shipping to the U.S. This deal applies to all AtariAge members who are/were members before this reply was posted.
