  1. I've also noticed an excess number of ColecoVision consoles being sold through Ebay are located in Canada. No idea on what kind of production numbers were originally shipped to Canada. I do know that there was a Canada specific console made though. All of the markings on the console are in both English and French and the power supply brick is wired at both ends so that the part that plugs into the wall is just a plug and the brick lies on the floor somewhere in between the wall outlet and the console. Unlike the American systems that forced you to block 2-3 outlets just to plug the damn thing in.

  2. I've always been a huge fan of the Virtua Fighter series. My buddy and I use to kick the shit out of each other on Virtua Fighter Kids, what a great game. We also use to play a ton of Loaded, I highly recommend the game. Also VirtuaL On is great game if you Net-Link two systems and have the VirtuaL On twin-stick controllers. It usually makes for some good battles.

  3. well, I'm really annoyed.  The seller made NO mention of these problems.   I don't think the system is worth what I paid for it, being I was under the assumption that it was problem free.

thanks for the technical info.....I may use it....I don't know yet.

Do you have a link to the auction? What did you pay for it? Did it work when you first got it, and now some time later it's having problems. If so tell the seller that you have problems and ask for a refund/partial refund.

  4. I've taken the occasional ColecoVison apart so here you go. Generally 2 things will give you garbled graphics, unwanted sprites, and audio humming.

Of course the ON/OFF switch is generally going to be your main concern. You need to de-solder the switch, clean all the contacts, and apply a contact conditioner to the switch contacts and slides. Do not, and I mean do not apply dielectric grease to the contacts. Sure it will work for a while, but eventually it will just attract dust and you will be back where you started. Secondally the cartridge slot will give you problems. First inspect the slot by looking straight into it. You are looking for any of the connectors to be bent back (not springing back to the center of the card-edge connnector), twisted, or just dirty as hell in general. Best thing to do is burhish, de-oxidize, and condition all of the contacts. After which I would recommend doing the same to all of your cartridges so that you don't re-introduce dirt and corrosion back into the slot.

As far as the controllers go, it depends on the problem. Usually it's one or both of the fire buttons that won't work, and/or one or more of the directions that won't work. Rarely do I see a problem with the numeric keypad itself. Again all of the directional switches, and button switches are able to be de-soldered from the board, burnished, de-oxidized, and conditioned for usually, results that rival brand new components.

Now most of this work sounds hard, complicated, tedious, and an overall pain in the ass, but do you want to know that you can play your ColecoVision when you want with no problems or do you want to have that thought in the back of your mind that oh I don't want to play it because I can't always move left, shoot, or the screen looks like crap.

Good luck to with your newly found project. If by chance you don't think that this is a project that you want to tackle you can always jump over to my website for a full list of refurbishing and modification services that I offer.

  5. Holy cow :!:

    Congratulations, $198.

Thanks. Well this is the 20th ColecoVision console that I've modded. I gave 1 away in a contest, I've sold 6 outright (not through Ebay), modded 4 customer consoles, and auctioned 9 through Ebay. So far I've only had one sell on Ebay for less than $200.00. I never could figure that one out, and a couple of months later the guy re-sold it on Ebay. I think he told me he needed the money. Thanks to all who have looked at and are bidding on my auction.

I think the reason for the high sale amount is due to the overwhelming failure rate of the ColecoVision consoles. I've got an Atari 2600 that I've had since I was a kid, I think it was either our 2nd or 3rd one, but neverthless, it's at least 18 years old and it still works fine. The ColecoVision is highly prone to on/off switch and cartride slot problems.

  6. In case anyone here was still thinking about getting one of these little beauties, my real job finally allowd me some time to get one modded up. It has gold-plated A/V output jacks, the "Intro Skip" BIOS upgrade, and comes with all the necessary accessories including a power adapter, gold-plated RCA cords, 5 games, and instruction manuals for everything. Thanks for looking.

  7. The Super Donkey Kong and Super Donkey Kong Junior were prototypes and never released. The Super Donkey Kong has all 4 screens, but the factory screen doesn't include collision detection. Here are cartridge versions that I sell:

Just click on the link for each game to see a detailed description of the differences between the "standard" and the "super" versions are a long with screen shots and cartridge scans.

  8. Including the Telegames re-releases there were 149 games plus all of the newer games by Daniel Bienvenu, OpCode Games, and others. I don't hate the original controllers as much as others and I actually do like the SA controllers. Not to mention there were quite a few third-party controllers that you could could choose from including some that had an integrated keypad.

  9. Last BUMP. Less than 12 hours left! Thanks for looking.

  10. Most people think that the Blinky Blue Screen of Death is caused by connector corrosion. While that is part of the reason, the other part of the reason is leaving the cartridge in the console and in the down position, it bend the contacts. Over time the contacts are stressed and don't make solid contact any more causing the aforementioned problem.

  11. I've got a few rare controllers up for auction right now. Here is a link to all of them and their individual links are listed below.

  12. As long as you didn't lie in the auction description about what they would be compatible with, and from what I can see you didn't, you have no responsibility to offer a refund. I agree with everyone else's opinion that the buyer should do the research to check for compatibility.
