1. I like this one a lot. It's got a lot of potential. The addition of the slippery platforms makes it super hard. The higher one sure makes it very diffifcult to get any of the keys higher up. I wonder if ANYONE can get all the keys? Challenge: I'll bet no one can get them!
2. Yea, I'm bored...so I dug up this three year old topic. Really interesting. I'm surprised more people didn't mention Minestorm for the Vectrex. Amazing little game. Also, I think Donkey Kong for ColecoVision is very overrated.
3. Glad others are into Spacemaster X-7. It's in my top 5 all time favs for 2600. Such fast gameplay.
4. Two of my favourite 2600 games are listed on here . Demons to Diamonds - probably my fav paddle game ever. Pretty unique gameplay. Adv of Tron - is an awesome game.
5. Wow, nice! In an ADD sorta way, this is addictive. Simple, yet fun enough to have great replay value. My best score is 1318. Good luck in mini-game compo. PS: even though I figured out the goal, you may wanna post some game play instructions.
6. I also think it's fun. I like browsing the site and seeing what people have scored on games I really like. Some of those scores are mind numbing... Agreed. I wonder why anyone cares about TG. I know several people on this board hold records in a variety of games, but I never really understood what the big deal was...I play games for fun, not for some kind of noteriety. Its a fun challenge to go after the scores on TG. For example, going after The 5th ghost's quadrun score or Todd Rogers' maxed out Crackpots score. I have a few scores, but all mine are legit on a 2600 console.
7. noteriety => notoriety. You're welcome! Oklahoma is OK! Agreed. I wonder why anyone cares about TG. I know several people on this board hold records in a variety of games, but I never really understood what the big deal was...I play games for fun, not for some kind of noteriety.
8. Dug Dug is much more well known, but I like Mr Do a lot better.
9. Really dig all these machines..but I hafta lean towards the good ole C<64. It's where I cut my teeth on assembly language programming back in the 80's. The "speccy" is a neat looking machine. Wish I had one to mess with. And yeah, this Mr Kizza guy got exposed! Very interesting read, indeed. Can't believe he also claimed some Atari ST games and was outed by the original authors. Wow.
10. Agreed. Pepper II is amazing. Shows off all the CV has to offer, IMHO. Galaxian (AtariSoft) is more fun to me than the arcade version. King, got something in the works . I'll keep you posted!!! PS: I think if you get more than 40k on Spectar you are doing well! 193,000 for Spectar eh? WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY out of my league... LOL! I guess I have a goal now for that game! Any new creations in the future we can enjoy from you Scott? As for personal favorites from back in the day.... I really enjoyed Pepper II and still like playing it today... very hard to put the controller down with that one!
11. King, Thanks. I really appreciate that. I'm glad you like it. Someone submitted an insane hi score to twingalaxies.com for Spectar. 193,000. Sheez.
12. Hi Guy, Where ya been? How're things going? Scott I checked out the FAQ and there is a pretty big error in there that should be corrected. It states that the Colecovision has 8K of RAM (I wish!). It only has 1K.
13. This is pretty impressive. Wait, there's nothing here. I read 8 pages of nothing.
14. supercat, maybe "mythicon" would be enough of an analogy? firefly, anybody? How old are you, Jess? I ask, because Solar Plexus bears a strong resemblance to the style of games that were released by the boatload in the early 1980's. Make the player avoid some moving sprites which use different NUSIXz modes without any apparent awareness of what the modes "mean" (even if there are three enemies in a row, the game never treats them in any way as three individual items). Had Solar Plexus come out in the 1980's, it would not have been the best, nor the worst; it's probably about typical for the genre. To produce a really successful game, you need to figure out what you can do that's never been done before--at least not as well as you can do it. Some of the effects (like the "GAME OVER") are really quite nice, but had the game come out in 1984 nobody would have thought much of it. By contrast, if someone in 1984 had seen THRUST+, the response would have been "THAT's an ATARI!?" The scrolling background was a somewhat rare thing back then, but a tether like the one connecting the ship and the pod would have been totally unheard of.
15. If you really like 2-player simultaneous games....then you MUST get Fall Down... AWESOME!
16. Perhaps, this is obvious to everyone by now, but plug your favorite Atari 2600 joystick into port #1, and then a regualr CV controller into port #2. Then, start the game using the controller in port two and play the game using the 2600 joystick. Much nicer to play the game! Troy, This is true. Also going from keyboard to joystick will make a big differance, but.....I wouldn't pay attention to the 145K score. Tom
17. >I'm sure you've aquired some z80 assembler skills by now as well? Yea, a little bit more comfortable with it now. I mainly learned some z80 so I can now enter a game in the 4k mini compo!
18. Oh. My. Lord. 145k?!?!?!! Stop the presses. We have a pro. You are one of those pros over at Twin Galaxies, eh? I just noticed you own the world record for Astro Invader too. well, I've almost doubled your 16k score on Astro before, but once I set up the tripod to record a game (tried this about 2 months ago), I got nervous and tanked. Got about 12k as my best. I will try again this weekend. Very, very impressive Tom. Sheez. You're in another league for sure. Scott, I've reached screen 26 and hit a little over 145,000 so far. That ones on tape! I saw Troy's name in the credits. I didn't realize till then that he was involved. After I told him his name was in there, he said that he had tested it and gave input on the game. Be the way Scott, I thought I heard something about you sending in some scores? Tom
19. Thanks for the comments, everyone!! Tom- if you can score more than 40k, I'd say you are doing great! What's your best so far? Troy Whelan did a ton of play testing and I think he got around 55k. If you get "in a groove", you can go for a LONG time on this one! Manuel- thanks! I'm pretty driven to try and finish Phoenix that I started years ago. If only I were as talented as Mr. Opcode.... How is Colony 7 coming? I played it on my mame cabinet for an hour the other day. It's such an awesome game. I do SOO hope you get that one out soon! Scott
20. My vote is the Vectrex as the easiest. The original engineers of that thing really cared about the programmers. The BIOS functions are amazing. So much of the technical work is done for you. Jess- you don't need to bother with that C thing they tried to come up with years ago. Look at the tutorials. They are quite good. That 6809 is really nice to code for. 16 bit registers rule!
21. The simplest method of alternate joystick on CV is to plug a stock Atari joystick CX40 into port #1 and a CV joystick into port two. Select game option with coleco stick and then use atari stick to play. Works pretty well most of the time (unless you need the keypad - but that's kinda rare).
22. Minefield, Thank you so much for that link! That site has really made my day.
23. I agree with Jess. The CV version of Gorf is abyssmal. The 32k PCB's that AtariAge offers would allow a full, proper version with all 5 "levels" in Gorf to be done (I think, at least). Recycled , Yeah, I really think the 2600 version is fun. Actually, I do as well. I was just stating that the CV version is the best as far as gameplay goes. The 5200 version is probably closest to the arcade game in terms of graphics. Given the great homebrews for the 2600 that are out there now, I am sure a better version of Gorf could be done, adding Galaxian would only be a small part of it. 953621
24. Jetset, Astro Invader homebrew has a pause feature! Scott
25. Manual, This is another of those "arcade underdogs" that I'm extremely glad you've chosen to "consider" (or are you full bore into it?) making on the 2600. Just loved it back in the day. I had to fire it up on my mame cabinet just to refresh those memories. I hope you really do this one! Scott Both sprites will be tripple copies positioned to the right edge (giving 16 pixels to work with) and wrap around after the right towers (16 pixel gap over the 2 left- and rightmost PF pixels). The rocket in the middle of the group will have GRP0 cleared and the tower right from the rocket will be both sprites fed with the same data, only GRP1 will be reflected. (For the rocket and the right side towers reflection of GRP1 won't hurt.) All in all it's 3 absolute color reads: 12 cycles 5 ZP color writes: 15 cycles 3 (),Y shape reads: 15 cycles 5 ZP shape writes: 15 cycles 1 shape clear: 5 cycles So we're at 62 cyles per line. I'm planing on having two particles re/set with the old PHP trick on alternating lines plus loop overhead which'll be additional 11/12 cycles, so when disregarding the timing for a moment the whole scenery looks doable to me. Greetings, Manuel 920973
