Nah, you've got it all wrong. It's the advertising slogan for the new Beowulf Cluster of 16 Atari Jaguar consoles. Didn't you hear the tagline? "Jaguar 128-byte: Do the Math!" Hmmm. Kirk might be on to something. I need to get the memory back from those six months of my life - they certainly could have been glorious . Certainly explains the scars And to think my theory was that it had something to do with my collection of Byte Magazines from 1983 - couldn't be. Maybe that Route 128 traffic was really bad when I traveled to Bedford to program an obscure program (I'm sure none of you have heard of it, so sorry for the tangent) called "Ms. Pac Man" for GCC - and I said, in a fit of bad punning brought on by gridlock, "128 bytes!". Could have been, if I wasn't in high school at the time.. I better keep thinking. @jbanes - just the thought of Beowulf clusters of Jags is making me :ROTFL: Though that laughter is counteracted by my realization that I am familiar with Beowulf clusters confirms the depth of my geekiness

If you want full backwards capability, this post on cheapassgamer says that Circuit City will be selling GBA SP's for $49.99 on Black Friday. It also says that Wal-Mart will be selling GBA Micro machines for $39.92. As for the GBA Micro: Same with me. It is an awesome machine (and a better deal than the SP deal imho) . Though mine has WarioWare Mini Microgames on it - I am oh so close to discovering the joys of Pyoro 2....

I have loved the gameplay of Activision Tennis since it first came out. I remember hearing an interview with the game designer on the radio, and as soon as I heard how much care went in to making it play realistically, and that the game even had a drop shadow, I was hooked. I think the gameplay on Activision Tennis is just as good as on Virtua Tennis for the PSP (both are very fun). I don't think the gameplay has aged poorly at all - possibly the least of any 2600 sports game! And I agree that Activision Tennis has better gameplay mechanics than RealSports tennis.

I agree 100%. I couldn't pull myself from a game of Puck-Man last night (in the quick amount of time I had) in order to play Food Fight (one of my favorite games of all time) in the HSC!

Excellent advice - my CC2 also looks much more elegant with the RS-MMC card. I will suggest to Chad Schell that he adds the suggestion of an RS-MMC to his website. I use a Simpletech RS-MMC myself. In fact, you can buy BOTH the card and a reader for around $20! link

Question - FB2 Portable?
128bytes replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
BIG thumbs up to the FB2 portable, with the specs you have mentioned. I would buy them for myself and give them as gifts. -
I think the question is "What System Will Your Casket Look Like"? Nothing like going six feet under in a replica of a heavy sixer And wouldn't it be cool to have a gravestone with a solar powered TV and a Flashback II built in, so people can stop by to see you and do some graveside gaming

Salem Willows, as of this summer, had some great old games - an original Seawolf (with periscope ), Space Invaders (still nothing like playing those old Taito games on real cabinets with the images projected onto a mirror with colored background elements), Tapper, Asteroids, Arkanoid, Ms. Pac Man, Space Invaders, etc. etc. I posted when I went there - I will have to look it up.

I would like to play Atari with 3 random AtariAge people online. Warlords or Medieval Mayhem, to be specific. One of these days, maybe someone will come out with the ultimate multicart - one that plugs into your cart slot and the joystick ports (with a passthrough for the left joystick port for your real joystick or paddles), has space for ROMs, built in wifi, and software (most likely running on a personal computer running somewhere on your home network, though it could be on board the cart if the cart is really a flash ROM based special purpose computer running linux) to allow for real-time multiplayer Atari 2600 gaming over the internet, using real VCS hardware, along with AtariAge.com as the online gaming hub (which I would gladly pay for access to). This is technically feasible, folks. I must be a geek since my dream is more exciting to me than NE146's

When we say "difficulty switches to the left position", what does that mean, and why does it matter? (this is a serious question - does it really effect anything for Food Fight, and isn't that the "A" difficulty position on the 7800 as regards 2600 games?)

I finally signed out and signed back in and the problem went away! Thanks for everyone's advice. Firefox 2 is a very nice browser, by the way - even Random Terrain would like it because it automatically spell checks everything in text entry boxes in real time.

The October 28 build is perfect on my CC2.

In Firefox 2 on XP, when I open a thread, the replies to the original post show up in tree mode, and when opening up a subpost, I often get the message: "Sorry, some required files are missing, if you intended to view a topic, it's possible that it's been moved or deleted. Please go back and try again." No problems with IE or Firefox 1.x FYI -128bytes

Bob and Ken - I loaded it on my CC2 - extremely impressive! I now have to update it to the October 28 build to see how the screen jumps are doing. As everyone has already said - WOW! Thank you!

Considering getting another PSP...
128bytes replied to King_Salamon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'm in agreement with most of those... and with the GTA games and some NHL Hockey (I like my hockey!) and some of the other titles mentioned earlier in this thread. It's looking like the time to get another PSP. I'm soooo close to closing the deal on this one. Twisted Metal, Wipeout, Lumines, heck even Untold Legends provided me with some entertainment (I did finish that one and it was long..repetitive but fun all the same!) Yup... there's definitely enough out for the system now to keep me buying for a year+! And there's more stuff coming out from now until Christmas! I am really enjoying playing Madden 07 online on my PSP - it stretches my skills to try to defend against some of those online players... Any other good PSP online titles? -
Lik-Sang Out of Business -- Closes Doors due to Sony
128bytes replied to Albert's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Spot on, CPUWIZ. By the way, Apple Computer, who so many of you hold so precious and dear, would do the exact same thing if they were, for instance, selling Japanese market iPods to Europe. -
Excellent! I have never downloaded the final version of kenfused's Beef Drop to my CC2 - now is the time. Can you post a link to the final version ROM (so I know it's the right one) and the CC2 settings (for the benefit of CC2 owners)?

I was totally blown away by Freeway when it came out - it was and is a great game. I couldn't believe how realistic the roads looked (seriously, I thought at the time that Freeway had the best 2600 graphics ever), and i couldn't believe how many cars were able to be on the road at the same time. And I loved the 2 player simultaneous action - something Frogger just can't match - had many great memories of Freeway deathmatches with friends...

Well, I for one, do not a want a FB2. So I'd rather save the $10 and have these joysticks instead. At this price, I agree with Paranoid. But I think we can do something about that price Now would be a perfect time for us AtariAgers to get together for a group buy! The cost would come way down, I'm sure... Another idea - maybe Albert can get a source for these joysticks and we can buy them through the AtariAge store, and let some of the profits help support this site.

Interesting article in BusinessWeek. Since the PS3 and Xbox360 cost virtually the same as a Mac Mini, it's certainly possible. Beyond that, Apple must see the Nintendo DS and think it can capture some of those sales (and hook in young kiddies) with a gaming iPod with content from iTunes... link. Snippet:

Flack - congrats on hitting Slashdot (and double congrats that your blog is still up!)

Cosmic Ark is considered to be a sequel to Atlantis
-
Activision Skiing - so long as you don't change the difficulty settings to require jumping over moguls. Vault Assault (I believe)
-
I'd be up for it, since I have a CC2 also. If we do it, we should have links to the .bin files AND the CC2 menu.txt settings for each hack or homebrew game we choose.
