  2. Food Fight totally rocks (isn't it great that there is a title where you don't have to say '7800' before it!). And it rocks musically too - I would argue that it has the best non-POKEY sound of any 7800 title...
  3. Good luck, Curt! Thank you so much for the Flashback 2 and those Awesome Joysticks! My secret business idea is to make a machine like yours, but make it about double the size of a Coleco tabletop arcade machine, using a backlit LCD screen, SD storage, and battery/AC power. Kind of like a MAME Gameboy in a mini-arcade cabinet. Feel free to use it

    Joust

I remember reading somewhere that the eggs float because, to save resources, the enemy bird movement routines were still used after the birds were lanced into eggs. I will try to find the link. BTW, as someone who couldn't afford a 5200 as a kid, I found Joust VERY impressive on the 2600. After seeing so many of the Atari 2600 arcade ports become one player only games, (like Phoenix, Ms. Pac Man, Galaxian, etc), it was great to see Joust and Mario Bros. come out with all their 2 player simultaneous goodness.
  5. So bcprs1, is there an MVP parade in the works in Boston for Jumbo Joe?
  6. I think high score contests - using homebrews sold at the AA store as the games -- would be a great way to drum up some interest in those homebrews and increase sales of them! The rules devised by ze_ro for the 2600 HSC would work nicely. Use the interesting things you were thinking of as the prizes. To prove my point - I enjoyed watching the progress of the Star Fire patch contest in the past, and I bet it helped stimulate sales of that most excellent title.
  7. Yes. Robotron works just fine with 1 button controllers.
  8. I agree - I play it with 2 players all the time - fun teamwork.
  9. WOW. Give it up for the ghost :clapping:
  10. Solaris, just because there is so much depth there that I haven't gotten to yet. It would keep me entertained for a good long time.
  11. It's a trademark issue. They CAN'T. I was merely making fun of the fact taht people see another meaning behind F.O.Q.K. but curiously they seem to think "Beef Drop" is kiddy approved. "Beef Drop" doesn't sound like a swear word when you say it to a 7 year old. I am no prude, but I think Atari video games that are not specifically "adult" titles should have kid friendly names. Because I play Atari with lots of kids. And lots of those kids like Q*bert - a lot. And I want their parents to want to have their kids realize just how good these classic games are. One other name suggestion: Q*7800
  12. . Looks like I was alot closer than I could have ever imagined I had actually forgot about that one. Mine is not to be pronounced :-), it stands for Fairly Obvious Qbert Knockoff. If I do stick with that title it will probably also say "Fairly Obvious !#@$? Knockoff" or something like that on the title screen with the logo. I do think the 'F' needs to lean in a little to the right and the little blobby things on each end need work. I want them to sort of resemble '*'s. Kenfused - I don't really like that name, and I think it would limit your sales. I wouldn't feel comfortable playing the game with young kids with that name. I love your Q*bert WIP - I play it on my Cuttle Cart 2, and so do lots of kids who use my 7800+CC2. How about calling it Q*ken ? Or (my favorite) I*hop ?
  13. Yet another Wil 2600 review - this time it's Spider-Man Here's a snippet: And here's one more snip: I must say that Wil's 2600 reviews have been quite entertaining lately. So is his story last month about his obsession with Guitar Hero, and getting to play Guitar Hero 2 at E3
  14. Only got one game in last night, but scored 23,235. It was my first time getting to the bonus round, which is really a lot of fun!
  15. Man, you guys are WAY overthinking stuff. Figure out what you want to pay and bid it. And be fully prepared to walk away if the price goes over your target. You lost, get over it. It's a big world, and stuff comes back on eBay all the time. I personally use a sniping service for 1 reason. 1) I can change my mind if something better comes along before the auction expires. That's it. There is one other benefit to a sniping service, but it's really irrelevant to someone who places good, honest proxy bids at a price of value they are satisfied with (umm, that would me me ). Here it is: I am logical and rational, but other people aren't. A snipe bid increases the chance that I get a bigger discount because all the other (irrational, illogical)people are playing mind games (or being cheap bastards) and are bidding only as much as they have to in order to be in the lead. My snipe bid will then come in lower because the other (whiny, irratinal, illogical, "I hate snipers" kind of people (who never place good, honest proxy bids at a price of value they are satisfied with) were trying to be greedy by getting an extra-big discount, at the risk of losing out to a good, honest sniper. Ok - I lied, that makes 2 reasons. But I am still a good, honest sniper.
  16. I have been focusing on how to get the Qubes to turn, and not on high scores (for now), and I have been making some good progress. Some tips - When you jump "down to the left ("DL")" or "up to the right ("UR")", the color of the right side of cube will stay the same, because the cube is rotating on that UL/Dr access. To get the color on the right side of the cube to match the target, get that color to show up on the top of your cube, then jump "down to the right ("DR")". Now that the right side cube color is correct, just keep jumping DL or UR to get the cube in the perfect position. Also, the interior qubes are much easier to flip into the correct position than the exterior qubes. They are also easier to "fix" if you "un-green" them by jumping on them when they are green - just jump back on them the other way. My plan of attack (which isn't too great because I haven't scored much over 17K yet) is to find exterior qubes that are close to correct, turn those, then focus on getting the interior qubes necessary to get 4 in a row all set. I also focus first on getting as many of the right facing colors correct first, so I can follow up with a bunch of UR/DL jumps at the end to get my row complete.
  17. 17,340. I'm still at the part where I am jumping on them until they are green (and then trying my best to stay off them!). I'm still getting the hang of strategic rotation.
  18. I think Bowling and Basketball are the best of the original sports games.
  19. In my opinion, if Game 3 was swapped as the default Game 1, the great video game crash may have had a much softer landing! That having been said, I agree completely.
  20. ADVENTURE. Hands down. The concept was not original, since it was an update of the old text adventure games, but the graphical interface and score-free gameplay was totally original. I agree 100%. Warren Robinett's own personal PowerPoint lecture about 2600 Adventure for his own college students - a must read!
  21. I usually played game 3 as a kid. Every time I've tried to play game 1 for the HSC, I have ended up with zero points, becuase the FBI agent keeps taking my phone pieces away! Sounds like I should check out your videos, because your tips are very helpful.
  22. Great tips, Random Terrain! I never knew the technique to hit the fire button before you hit the bottom of the well. Glad to see you participating in the HSC with your favorite game.
