I will be gaming as long as I live, but will *never* be a mature gamer! What an awful term! That having been said, did you hear about Doris Self, the 80 year old woman who *almost* re-claimed her high score championship of Q*bert last year at Fun Spot in Weirs Beach, NH? Great story, and she couldn't have picked a better game to love than Q*bert! here's a better longer story

Well, I know of one Atari 2600 cart that was a smash hit in June, 1994 Being a little less literal, I think that the Homestar Runner RPG could have (or someday might have) had the chance to be the best selling 2600 homebrew ever... Speaking of that, what *is* the best selling game on AtariAge ever (so far)?

Thanks, vdub_bobby. That's the best Donkey Kong tutorial I have ever seen!
-
Boy, I am out of practice. My score so far is 27,200

I always thought the fireballs in the second screen of 2600 Donkey Kong looked like Aladdin's lamp...

2 questions: 1) Are you guys pro-hammer or anti-hammer? Usually I can't be bothered to hammer. 2) Are we finally going to find out the "special features" that Coleco promises on page 7 of the Donkey Kong manual? I was always hoping to find them as a kid, but they never appeared

What bankswitching file are you using in your menu.txt file on your CC2? Maybe it's the wrong file, or maybe there's something wrong with the CC2's bankswitching file that can be fixed.

LOL Thanks guys for the support and especially you bcprs1 for holding the contest. It was fun albeit short. I'm going to pick up some homebrew supplies as I have a lot of the homebrews that I need already, and Reflex is not available yet. I have some proms though that are begging for some nice clear cases. It's going to be a tough next round for the Oil, and it's going to be interesting to watch. I still can't believe Ottawa lost. So without further ado: Ode to the Sens They came They skated They lost... The end By Omegamatrix Ode to the Bruins They came They lost They lost They lost They traded They lost They traded They won They won They lost They lost They didn't make playoffs They fired They are screwed!!!!!!! You forgot the last line! Fixored: Ode to the Bruins They came They lost They lost They lost They traded They lost They traded They won They won They lost They lost They didn't make playoffs They fired They are ruined...

Hey Paranoid - This is why I'm saying we could come up with a menu.txt page. Homebrewers like Schmutzpuppe or kenfused, or hackmeisters like PacManPlus or Nukey Shay, are working hard enough on their programming -- whereas CC2 users could certainly keep a database up and running on a menu.txt thread. Lastly, not all homebrewers/hackers are familiar with the CC2.

Nintendo is hinting at gameboy's end
128bytes replied to 8th lutz's topic in Modern Console Discussion
It's totally classic, if for no other reason than Wario Ware, Inc. and Wario Ware Twisted. In my book the GBA is #2 to the Atari 2600 in terms of popularity and influence -- if you think of it, both systems had far and away the dominant market share, and held on for years after the basic hardware became technically obsolete due to games where graphical limitations (compared to games on other contemporary platforms) were overcome with great gameplay and ingenious design, and kept on selling even after the next generation (the DS for Nintendo, the 5200 and 7800 for Atari) with refined models (the 2600 Jr, the GBASP2 and micro). If there is no new GameBoy announced, Nintendo may well continue selling the GBASP2 and the Micro for an even longer time - maybe another year or two! -
Congratulations, Omegamatrix. Are you interested in becoming the next general manager of the Bruins? They're looking, you know

Slight improvement - 67,175

My trusty Game Boy Advance Micro. For me, it's the Atari 2600 of current times. BTW, Activision Anthology (all their 2600 games plus some homebrews) for the GBA is excellent - I highly recommend it.

Man, that's the most depressing thing I've heard in a while. Makes me appreciate the game of 4-player Warlords I had last weekend even more. All the pre-Space Invaders games on the 2600 (Adventure is the brilliant exception that proves the rule), and lots made soon thereafter, are more fun (due to the AI or lack thereof) with another person. Many of the old basic games like Sky Diver, Bowling, Dodge 'Em, Air Sea Battle, and Hangman are great fun when other people are around -- especially the non-video-game playing types (precisely the ones Nintendo is trying to capture with the Wii).

Now, if you also have the BK guy throw a sprite that is really a Sprite, that would be a great inside joke!

I still won't play "1980 Summer Olympics" Speaking of which (well, at least games Soviets won't play ), Wil Wheaton reviews Decathlon in the brand new issue of the A.V. Club. Snippet:

It's hard to get the precise places to be on-screen for the challenging stages (to get the coveted 1000 bonuses) compared to the arcade, and the movement is crappy. That being said, I like it a lot. I enjoy it more than on Namco Museum for the GBA, for example. I'm judging it as a 7800 arcade port, and it scores well on that account. It doesn't suck IMHO, though. Why? 1) I still have fun playing it 2) The sound is surprisingly good for a 7800 non-POKEY game 3) there is no true alternative on the 2600 (my favorite system), and 4) I enjoy trying to post new high scores on it with my Cuttle Cart II's built-in battery-based HSC support.

Hi Neo - I think you should be clearer that you are only asking for hack suggestions, and not homebrew ones. And if I'm wrong, please let me know. Maybe some of the nice features that Nukey Shay (maybe he can give you some advice) puts into his hacks. Here's two ideas: 1) You can start a new game by pushing the button on your paddle, so you don't have to hit game reset. 2) In 2 player Kaboom! having (in Imagic style, like Dragonfire or Demon Attack) control change from Player 1 to Player 2 between waves would make for a more fun 2 player game. I would keep the graphics the same as the original.

I haven't played this with difficulty level 'b' in a long time. I have always loved Q*bert since it was new in the arcades, but never got the home version until MUCH later. I got 62,200 last night, but have big room for improvement. As you can see from the score, I did not use the top jumping bug! Here's another tip that's almost too obvious, but, very useful in later rounds: The target color of the cubes is ALWAYS the same color as the score. When you are in the later rounds, and the color of the cubes is always flipping around between the start color, the intermediate color, and the target color, it is very easy to lose track of the target color, but a quick glance at the score (when it is actually on the screen!) will set you straight. -- By the way, if you have a Cuttle Cart II, I highly recommend trying kenfused's Q*bert homebrew in progress for the 7800 after this week on the HSC is over.

I haven't seen a Wii line like that since the intermission when I went to see Spamalot. Of course, I saw the people who say "Wii" there too.

At least many of the new 7800 homebrews (like Frogger) use Pokey sound. And maybe some day someone enterprising will hack existing 7800 games (like Donkey Kong) and substitute Pokey sound. BTW, Paranoid, do you think we should set up a new thread for menu.txt settings? I'm game to help out if you are...

I have an idea that beats Red Steel - "Blue Steel!" Click here for a video clip of the beginning of the famous Walk-Off scene in the hilarious Zoolander. Note the split-screen action in the video clip. In the game, Player 1 is Derek Zoolander and Player 2 is Hansel. Each player uses the Wiimote to execute their best walk-off moves in true DDR style. The culmination of the game will, just like in the movie, be the tiebreaker at the end - the first one to take off their underwear without removing their pants wins! Memorable quotes from Zoolander! --- On a more serious note, there will be hundreds of ideas in the new WarioWare for Wii. I can't wait. I would love to see Atari 2600-style paddle games on the Wii. Imagine using the Wiimote to move the buckets in Kaboom!, or to move the shields around in Warlords?
