One more thought -
To keep the Atari theme going -
We can call the Pro division "Difficulty A", and the Amateur division "Difficulty B" . The "Difficulty A" and "Difficulty B" divisions would also take away the idea that the "pros" are doing this for money, since the HSC is clearly all about the love of the games.

-
How about a "Pro/Am" format?
Only slightly more work for Keilbaca.
Here's my idea:
There are 2 sets of standings - Pro and Amateur.
Everyone is automatically in the Amateur category, except for Todd Rogers, who is automatically in the Pro category.
Anyone who has ever earned (or earns in the future) a top 5 score in any week's event (The 5th ghost? D. Yancey?...) can switch to Pro status by posting their desire to the board.
If there is someone who the Amateurs think should move to the Pro ranks (because they are clearly a ringer), and ten (10) HSC members agree, than that person will be moved to the Pro category.
--------------
I actually agree with both sides of this argument. Anyone like my suggestion? BTW, welcome back to posting, Pitfall Aimee!

I like a lot of the case designs for the AtariVox that people have building and thinking of in this thread, and am looking forward to Albert's solution.
I came up with an even better idea, in my opinion, in the shower this morning -- the AtariVox talking joystick!
Tagline: "Talk about a joystick with great feedback!"

Why not have an AtariVox, a joystick, and a speaker all in the same case? Some ideas -
- We could take the top of a CX-40 and screw it into a larger bottom case that holds everything;
- We could have a case that snaps or velcros onto a CX-40 (that wouldn't be an elegant single-cord solution, though);
- Remove the guts of one of those larger JAKKS Pacific joysticks and hack it into an AtariVox talking joystick; or
-something else more creative that Albert could produce for sale in the AA store.

because ze_ro needs a trophy damnit!
Ze_ro did an incredible job starting up the High Score Club. There are lots of other members who do great things on this board almost every day, so we really don't need awards. There are also people who do great things on this board anonymously (thank you, Secret Santa), or out of the spotlight altogether through PM's, who are doing things out of the goodness of their heart and not for the recognition.

I tried it for the first time last night - it does have good gameplay. Thanks for the choice, Cybergoth. I only scored 5,000, but I will keep trying later this week.

Chad -
Thanks for releasing the source code. The CC2 is an incredible product and has lots of untapped potential. I was one of the 2 lucky people who won the lottery to got the last of the Cuttle Cart 2's from Chad this fall. I held off on getting a 7800 (I've always been a VCS guy) until just before Christmas, knowing that I would have the time to set it up and play it over the holiday break.
Now that I have it set up and working, it's just as great as I had hoped. I also had my first experience playing 7800 games, and I have come to really appreciate the built-in High Score Cartridge.
Now that I am up and running, I'll be able to contribute to the Cuttle Cart 2 and 7800 communities. One minor contribution: the SimpleTech 128MB MMC (I bought it for around $18 at buy.com with free shipping) works without a problem in the Cuttle Cart 2, and ships pre-formatted in FAT16.

And what does "Area Man" mean?

It means that Stan Jr. must be a fan of "The Onion"
He's going for a typical newspaper headline feel IMHO.ps, CPUWIZ, I bought a slik stik from you around 9 months ago and never said thanks, it works great.
Thanks, it works great, and Happy Holidays!

I received my gift today. Thanks!!!!
-
I'm stretching things, but "skeet shoot" and "biathlon" in Summer Games are technically first person shooters.
-
I recieved my gift today! Wow was that fast! To whomever it was, thank you very much! The extra little suprize was very nice too! Thank you!!I think it's a great idea for us to post when we get our gifts -- that way the secret sender can relax knowing that their gift arrived without a problem.

I did a quick Froogle search and found it in several places, including this sample picked at random.
I have a copy and it's very well done overall.
-
And for the modern titles, my favorite splash screen is Joust Pong.
-
Star Trek had a great splash screen. The rest of the game isn't so great, though.
-
I'm in, too. I'm sending my PM to Secret Santa today.

Some other games with endings (other than the score running out):

All the sports games
Maze Craze

So I'm half watching and notice a Defender Cabinet. What's this? Well the huzzy proceeds to push it out onto her balcony and then over the railing. That wench!! The helpless machine goes tumbling down a few stories then smashes to pieces.I was pretty un-nerved at the whole sight of this..
[bad joke alert]
OK, I'll be a "defender" here...
Well if he was traveling around the galaxy picking up humanoids and deploying "smart bombs", you could understand her desire to "push hyperspace" on the cabinet as revenge

[/bad joke alert]

The Epyx trio of Summer Games, Winter Games, and California Games each have multiple stages...

Good topic, Spongebue!
Here are some other games that theoretically could work with paddles and would have better gameplay, too (like the awesome Astroblast).
Crackpots -- far and away has the most possibility for improved gameplay
Stampede
Skiing
Sky Jinks
Barnstorming
Megamania
JoustPong (you could use the bigger button on the paddles!
)Beamrider
Oink! (for the Wolf only in Game 3)

I just bought Madden 2005 for the Game Boy Advance. You can have your cake and eat it too.
It's the perfect marraige of old school Sega Genesis early 90's graphics with modern day playability. It's awesome.
-
My first of many eye candy experiences with the VCS was seeing the drop shadow in Tennis. I was also blown away by "real words" like DEUCE and AD IN actually showing up on the screen, as well as the Activision logo. The gameplay for Tennis is awesome, too. All in 2K!
-
Great choice! Fruit-tastic!
I usually play this on Activision Anthology for the GBA. I know that usually we don't allow GBA play, and I'm ok if we say "emulators only".
...but maybe, if Rasty certifies that the gameplay is the same, we can allow it for just this one time...

Um...wouldn't sending replacements also be kind of an iffy thing to do in regards to the current Infogrames situation?
That's stepping into the more touchy area of trademarks.Damn lawyers are ruining the hobby

All I know is that "INTRUDER ALERT, INTRUDER ALERT", "CHICKEN, FIGHT LIKE A ROBOT!", and "HUMANOIDS MUST NOT ESCAPE!" take on a whole new meaning to me nowadays!
Berzerk VE is awesome, BTW. And those red labels are awesome, too.

Very funny! Amazing that the strip did not feature one single Atari licensed character!
I had never realized about Irata until now -- that's just perfect!!!!!! (I won't give it away for the temporarily dense among us) -
Keir - thanks for the score summary. I agree that a bye week would be nice right about now, out of respect for Ze_ro.

7800 sound sucks!

I also think that Food Fight has good sound...
