  1. I picked up a 7800 the other day to replace my previous but there were a couple of things that I noticed that were different?

Don't know if this is something that is pretty common or what?

First, my previous 7800 came with a detachable power source. The new one came with power hard wired and a very different looking power brick.

Second, the rainbow color band is slightly different? Don't know if this is common or not?

Third, the cartridge port is a little different with a extra piece of plastic near the top?

There is no sticker on the back of the new 7800 so I can't find a production date.

I've included a pic. The top 7800 is the variant and the bottom is the one I was replacing.

  2. My experience with the "make an offer" thing is it is by default checked when you use the "buy it now" mode of selling... It's happened to me where I get an offer and I'm like, wait.. I didn't have make an offer selected? Did I? And sure enough it's checked... so a lot of people may not even know about it...

  3. Wasn't there a magazine article or something somebody had posted a pic of that stated that the game (Electrocop) was very playable and a standout for the 7800 at CES?

I'd be willing to bet money that even if the prototpye was destroyed there's a hard disk out there with the files still on it...

  4. Xenophobe is very playable. But just like a lot of 7800 game it just seemed to not be complete. It's missing characters, missing certain elements from the arcade, a lack of direction - no real ending or goal.

Karateka is just a half-assed game all around. Missing a lot of elements that made the Apple, C64, etc. conversions a classic. And when you look back, there really isn't a reason why these things are missing? The creators cut out all the things that made the game edearing. For me it was the cut scenes. Like when you're running toward the castle and it cuts to one of the enemies running toward you, building suspense. And the controls are hideous....

  5. As someone who regularly works with the codebase, I can tell you with 100% certainty that the assumption you're making through observation is incorrect. There is no difference in how either handle input.

The issue here would be due to a configuration issue or user error. I would suggest to download a fresh copy of MESS, extract it to a different directory than the previous install and download QMC2 as a front end. This will start everything from scratch and make troubleshooting easier.

    EDIT:

    Get MESS from http://mamedev.org

    Get QMC2 from http://qmc2.arcadehits.net/wordpress/

Well, after downloading it again and installing it in a new directory it's working absolutely fine!

Thank you for help on this!

  6. I've got the newest version.... 1.51 I believe... Although it's been troublesome for every previous version I've used... I keep on hoping the next version will fix whatever problem it is...

Yeah... I've played around with those settings to no avail...

It's weird... I do have other versions of MESS to compare... In MESS .82 GUI version I can get the joystick to work with Atari 2600/7800 games but can't get it to work with any other system I try... Newest version, can't get the joystick to work at all... And then in MAME (which I understand has the same kernal) it seems to work fine with whatever game I try...

  7. Hey guys,

I've been racking my brain and trying just about everything I can think of to get my joystick to work in MESS but it just isn't happening.

It works fine in MAME but I'm having no luck in MESS.

Basically it detects the joystick but when I try the tab menu to configure it, it doesn't accept any of the movement...

I'm using a Logitech F310. Is there a better joystick to try out?

    Anybody have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  8. Atari Team Wrestling - yes, I stand corrected. However, I thought that this was based on a different arcade game, not what ended up being Mat Mania Challenge, I did think it was a totally separate entity.....but I could be wrong on that as well.....

I'd like to know what the heck happened along the way of the development of Mat Mania.. The arcade game was a pretty fun wrestler in its time.. The 7800 port has little to nothing to do with the arcade... It's like half way through the developers said "eh, f--k it!"

But even so, it's like, why pay for the licensing if the game isn't going to resemble the arcade whatsoever...
