  1. but without Wolf3D there would be no Doom. therefore, the real hero is Wolf3D even if it was less popular.

    Actually... 8) :)

    Anyone remember Ultima Underworld???

Actually... If you want to get all technical! :D

Games like Castlemaster and Robocop 3D dated both by a couple years.. They weren't texture mapped like Wolf3d on up, they were polygons.. but they were freescape enviroments.. And I'm sure those two aren't the be all end all... Like cybergoth said, Elite is arguably one of the first 3D shooters as well.. And that game came out in what? '85?

  2. why do so many people choose Doom, over WolfD? To be completely honest, Wolf3D came a good 3 - 4 years before Doom. and all doom did was make the Wolf3D engine better! I'd never put Doom on the list, by itself! I'd put DoomGL on the list, because that was the one that sparced the "modern style" FPS with full mouse controll, and 3D rendering via OpenGL.

I agree with that but Doom part one came out only the next year after Wolf3D.. And it was the one that everybody remembers... it jived with the internet boom whereas Wolf3D was popular on the BBSs... Doom 2 outsold Wolf3d 3 to 1 and has been downloaded over 15 million times.

  3. EGM goes way back. 82 or 83 maybe?

Now, from what I've heard, they've always had a bias against Atari because of their business practices. I use that in terms of their cheapness. For instance, one of the great things about being a reviewer meant that you got a free copy of the game. Well, Atari insisted that the games be returned in a certain amount of time. Another rumor was along the lines of advertising spending. Nintendo and Sega spent a hell of a lot more on advertising real estate than Atari ever would. Therefore Nintendo and Sega would get far more coverage in reviews and such.

    Anybody else? Any others?

  4. Gunstar, I believe what you said about Telegames being hard to work with.. I don't know how many people went to CGE and dealt with the Telegames salesman with that thick Texan accent! I think he wanted to kick everybody's ass just because! Trying to ask a simple question turns into the Alamo!

  5. GAAAHHH 116,280!!!!

But when I got up to take the picture.. the joystick was on the floor and I kicked it and it went right to the 'select one player Strawberry' screen which AMAZINGLY RESETS THE SCORE TO ZERO!!  :x  :x

Swear to god.. I was even putting up the box next to the tv to frame it.

Well if I can do it once on my third game no doubt.. I can do it again. Here we go!

No need to worry. Pictures are not required as proof. Just your honor.

If we find you are lying someone will be sent to your house to beat you to death with a 7800 prostick.

Well thank you.. I do sort of feel vindicated. :D I of course have zero reason to lie.. but it really just sucks! Incidentally I played on/off last night after that.. but I couldn't really duplicate it and only able to reach max about 76000 (below is one of them). I think I just burned out from playing it, as once I died once or twice in the first 3-4 boards I'd get pissed and restart

That is quite an amazing story you have nonetheless! We'll be sure to keep an eye out for more of these come further in the contest!

    :P

  6. David, don't forget this one!!!

    Blue Lightning 2.5 2.5 2.O 2.O

    :? :P

So the top games for the Jag were Baldies, Cannon Fodder, Rayman, and Tempest 2000.

The top games for the Lynx are Blue Lightning, Klax, Ninja Gaiden, and Turbo Sub. With Rampart and Shadow of the Beast closely behind.

Do people agree with those scores?

  7. I'd pay full price at the theater to see a live action version of Tetris! :D

    *edit*

I didn't read the rest!! Obviously this would be a complex film and the director would have to work hard to make sure all the pieces fit! (*lame pun insert! :dunce: ) It would have to be Scorcese and the actors would be: DeNiro as the L-Shape, Josh Harnett at the long piece, and Louie Anderson as the square piece!

  8. Hey! Club Drive and Blue Lightning both have their good points... agreed!

I remember I got Blue Lightning for the first time and I played it from beginning to end in one night! I can say that I did enjoy it! But you know what? The game is still 100% awful!! This was a game that was supposed to show off the superb power of the Jaguar CD... I repeat, !!!CD!!! Instead it gave me something (minus the 3 something cut scenes) not unlike what my C64 could do... I mean, puh-leeze!! What a slap in the face!!! How embarrasing for Atari to do something like this! Pretty f-ing shameful if you ask me! Right on the eve of such killer titles like Warhawk for the Playstation they would release this bullsh!t!!!

I'm a die-hard Atari fan and have about 75% of all Jaguar stuff out there. But a bad game is still a bad game! Furthermore for a game that came out in 95-96ish competing with the likes of what was coming from PS and Saturn? This was a game that should have came out for the 7800...

  9. Contra Hard Corps.   It was such a great concept, ruined by being too hard.   3 lives, no continues allowed.   :P

Play the Japanese version on your emulator.. You actually have an energy bar that allows you to be hit three times before you die!!! 8)
