Any pictures of this? sku_u's "Controller Rarity Guide" seems to be down at the moment so I can't check if it's listed there. Thanks. It's back up now. It looks like your average slick stick or anything else Suncom made back in the day. But looks can be decieving! The joystick isn't that rare, but the Atari 7800 version is! I seem to remember buying a C64 TAC 2 and the second button didn't want to work on my 7800.
I'm hoping somebody here can back me up on that last part. I owned a couple of TAC 2s and now I can't find them for the life of me.

-
I like them both but they have to be made from some of the cheapest parts available. I've gone through so many joypads and prosticks it makes me sick! Seriously, the TAC 2 joystick by Suncom, if you can get your hands on it, is easily the best! It'll never break! I think it's the only other joystick made specifically for the 7800 (two button support).

Mario Bros.
Tower Toppler
Motor Psycho

Imagine the fun that could be had with the difficulty switches if they were actually utilized more?I was ususally 6-8 feet away from the console so whenever I wanted to use it I had to leap toward the system. That part was fun!

-
Certain games for the 7800 did utilize them. Tower Toppler and F-18 Hornet come to mind.

Hey guys! I've got some beginner questions regarding programming for the 7800. I'm not exactly a beginner with programming (BASIC, Pascal, C++), but I am with machine code. So say a guy like me were to try and learn 7800 language. How long would you say something like this could take? How long did it take you? Where could I turn to for resources? Is there a book out there I can check out?
Thanks!

In that case... I was just playing Asteroids and scored...
One- Hundred Billion points!!

-
Count me in!
I'm new to all this so what are the rules and how can you tell if a score is legit?
-
Unbelieveable this stuff can still be out there!!
Was this stuff all produced in house by Atari? I know closer to the end Tengen was getting hooked up with Atari during the Lynx days and later 7800 days (hence "Klax") so could there be any more from Tengen out there?
-
Does anybody know what that "Top 5% of all websites" symbol means? I used to see those all the time back in the day and now I don't see them at all!
-
I agree with Drac! I know this probably has been discussed already but I'd like to know if anybody knows how far those games are/were along and if there are any prototypes out there?
I know Missing in Action is finished but what about the others? This topic has probably been beaten into the ground...
-
Hahaha!
I wouldn't have even known otherwise. I mean, I remember looking through the manuals trying to find out the ties but couldn't find anything. So the only tie is a statement at the end. I'll tell you this much, as far as marketing is concerned I would distance myself greatly from Planet Smashers! Alien Brigade is soooo much better!

-
Yeah, really... There's nothing similar! What was the point?!
-
How is it that Alien Brigade and Planet Smashers are related? It says here on Atariage that Alien Brigade is the sequel to Planet Smashers and PS is the prequel to AB. Can anybody explain the relation?

I think there is a lot of things we won't ever know about the climate of Atari back in those days. With respect to mfeldman, I thought Karateka was a terrible port. Even back then (8 years old) I thought it was pretty bad. I remember playing it on an Apple 2 and falling in love. It was one of the original reasons for choosing a 7800.
But why was 7800 Karateka so different than Apple, C64, and all the rest? It was obvious the game could have been done like the others but it wasn't. Like mfeldman said the Tramiels were all about cost and it could be that Kareteka's memory was cut in half, not enough time, not enough documentation.. . Only speculation but who knows?

Yeah, agreed Electrocop is pretty friggen hard.. And then I'd say Ninja Gaiden III is pretty difficult at times too...
-
Great... Right when I think I can back up what I say I can't find any pics like I was talking about.. I looked all weekend and found nothing...
But yeah, like Albert said, the ones I'm thinking of are pixelated, edgy and very blocky. It just didn't do the Lynx justice...
-
Sick man, sick!! Those pics looked fantastic!!

-
I was reading an interview in the lastest MyAtari magazine with Duranik and they had a bunch of pics from unrealized Jag and Lynx games. Two of the pics belonged to Native 2 and it looked amazing! My question is, I'm sure it's not for the Jaguar, but what system would those belong to?
And does anybody know anything about those pics for the other games? Those looked great too!
The article:
-
I should scan some of the pictures and show you what I mean. The pictures were awful. I remember that the Lynx dropped in price in '93 with the introduction of the Lynx 2 to like $99 around that issue in EGM.
Yeah, Gamepro did a fair representation of the Lynx with their ratings. But still, I remember the frames didn't do justice to the games and most of my friends were saying exactly what they saw in the mags. So, I'll try to find some old magazine pics.
-
So I could never really understand why the Lynx never took off like the Gameboy. Everything was superior, graphics, sound, size. It had the games too. I remember thinking that it was really going to take off once they nailed the Batman license. But still it never did.
Thinking more about the matter I thought back to when it came out. All my friends who were into gameboy and gamegear or whatever were all saying the Lynx sucked because the graphics were terrible. You could all imagine my reaction. But why were they saying this? Well, it was kind of true, right?
Look in old issues of EGM and Gamepro and the pics from the Lynx games are absolutely horrific. The pics are blocky and unflattering. So what was the deal with that? The only decent pics of games came out in EGM in October '93 (???) when Atari had their catalog included in that particular issue. Funny enough that the reviews always said that the graphics were great but the pics never reflected that.
What's everybody else's experience with that?

So did Epyx ever intend to release the Handy by themselves? I know they were near bankruptcy, but was it their intention to sell the Handy all along to another company?
I guess another question I have is why was there this tension between Epyx and Atari? Or why didn't RJ Micals and Dave Needles want to sell it to Atari?
-
There's already an RCA mod for the 7800 right? Is it a do-it-yourself mod or does somebody do this for you?
-
I'm quite curious about this issue. I remember reading an interview with the creators of the Handy/Lynx. They had mentioned that they never intended or wanted to sell the Handy to Atari because of their mismanagement tactics this or that... Basically they knew that Atari would drive it into the ground.
So with that in mind, what was it that Epyx had in mind for the Handy that Atari didn't? And do you think it would have been any better or more viable had Epyx had it their way?

Impossible Mission would have been WAY better had you been able to beat it!
