  1. Check out my latest NES video and let me know what you think!

  2. I'm so glad that the greedy resellers are getting stuck with these. I refuse to support those scalpers that wanted 4x the MSRP for one. Hell, there are still people wanting close to 250 for them on Amazon. I finally got fed-up with the whole situation back in March and built myself a RetroPie console, which wound up not only being more cost-effective, but way cooler.
  3. Atari Age. You never cease to amaze me about the level of depth that you dig up. You guys really are super sleuths. Always amusing how utterly and completely you can bitch-slap down aholes like the guys associated with these crazy stories regarding Coleco. You all are my heroes. With regards to the story in itself. It's just utter stupidity to strong arm the fans and the ONLY POSITIVE REASON WHY YOUR BRAND EXISTS on the internet. These people are either smoking copious amounts of crack, or they are INSANE. Great read!
  4. Great Review! I enjoyed reading it. I was really excited to try this game out as a huge Double Dragon fan growing up, but when I actually played it I was pretty underwhelmed. Actually I was kinda disappointed. Thank goodness there is an option to turn on the Retro music (because the music they made for the game is borderline garbage) Whats kind of a ripoff is that the retro music seems to just be the Double Dragon 2 music directly ripped. The gameplay is fun, but what really is annoying is HOW MUCH PLATFORMING they added to the game. I realize this is supposed to be a direct sequel to DD 2 for NES, and they wanted to pay "homage" but there was just too much of the platforming. Same frustrations as DD 2, but seemingly more of it. It is cool that there are so many unlockables, as well as the 2v2 mode. No complaints there. Some cool new moves as well. Also I've heard the PS4 version allows you to share the game with others, to play with people that don't own the game. That's a cool feature as well. Overall it's decent, but I feel like they missed out on a real cool opportunity for a new retro DD game, rather than something they kinda just threw together for the 30th anniversary and didn't put much thought into it.
  5. Thank you so much for your kind and thorough reply. The AtariAge community is really awesome. I planned on going back and reading through this whole history of events (most of which I have gotten piecemeal over the past year from podcasts and different youtubers) but I had the main sticking points down. I guess a lot of that I was kinda alluding to in my original post, although admittedly, sarcastically. I appreciate the more insider information regarding the project though. Based on some of this newer information that I wasn't quite aware of and with this information added to what I already knew, there is no other way in my mind that Mr. Kennedy had any other intentions than to cheat his backers and the public. What he hoped to accomplish after that is beyond me. It's fairly apparent to me that he didn't think any of this through at all even if his intent was to cheat people out of money. I mean this wasn't even that good of a con job. I mean even if he did intend to do this just to get the money to develop a REAL console and try to hide that from anyone, I have no idea how he figured he would accomplish that considering he knows nothing about console development.
  6. I really can't believe the way that Mr. Kennedy decided to address this whole debacle. Even a year later after initially hearing about all of this, I'm dumbfounded regarding the way this was addressed. Almost like it would have been better to say nothing at all. So you are looking to start this Coleco project and basically do no research into whom your hiring or to even check if they are qualified to do what they say they can do, despite the aforementioned issues with the original idea, never take one look at what was being made, if it worked correctly, how it ran...etc. Why in the world would you feel confident going to ANY convention with no knowledge on anything regarding the development, how the unit worked or what was going on with the project at all?? What sort of person managing a project and trying to build a multi-million dollar Kickstarter campaign would do something like that? You either have to be an effing MORON or you know you are trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes AGAIN. In this case it sounds like a little bit of both. I in no way would go into a convention presenting ANY type of product without knowing 100% how the unit was built, what hardware it ran off of and the development process. Especially for such a high profile project. How can you complain about someones criminal history if you never bothered to look into ANY of that before you hired the person? I'm not saying that "Lee" wasn't shady, but people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. With regards to anyone that signed onto the project to possibly develop games, why would you do so without seeing a working demo and meeting with the entire team? Who the hell in business takes peoples words for stuff without any proof? Not to beat a dead horse, but hopefully these people have learned a valuable business lesson. One that they probably should have learned LONG ago.
  7. I'm not even a huge fan of baseball, but this game is certainly among my favorites for Retro Baseball titles. (probably a tie with Ken Griffey for SNES) I've played the NES versions as well as the NEO Geo Versions. Both are solid, but I have more experience with the NES title. It really is crazy how much content they put into that cart. Making your own team, being able to FULLY customize the team by hiring and firing players, and leveling them up. Then being able to save it all...which was all just crazy for those days. Great gameplay too! Really awesome how playable it still is after all these years!
  8. I enjoy this game, but overall I personally to find it a more shallow experience than the NES game. Not only because the music is (obviously) not as good as the NES counterparts, but the gameplay is really bland as well. It seems weird that you only start the game with of your life, then you realize for the first few levels, it's REALLY hard to die. Most enemies die with one or two hits. So in the end this is a game where you march to the right and hit the button once in awhile. So you go from the NES games being CRAZY difficult to this game being way too easy. Too bad there was never a middle-ground. Great article though. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing
  9. With how hard it was to develop a game on the Jaguar back when it was released, you are lucky to find a game that actually looks 32 bit. Hell, most of them look more like 16 bit. Let alone ever getting close to looking like an N64 game. The 64 bit on the cover is technically a lie, due to the "math" used with the combination of processors they used to supposedly add up to 64 bit. This is just a glimpse into the "bit wars" era where people were wowed by anything that sounded more powerful than what they currently owned. The Jaguar has a few great games and it's a fun blip in video game history, but don't get your hopes up regarding any sort of wonderful graphics or fast loadtimes.
  10. It is pretty funny how bad most of the SMS boxart was. Sure simple can be efficient, but in this case it was seriously...lacking. In a time where a lot of people, especially un-informed kids bought games largely based on the boxart and the description. Anyways, bravo on these inspired covers. I would like to see more of them. I loved them all, but I think the Mortal Kombat one is my favorite, just due to it being nothing but a pool of blood. I really did get good laugh out of that.
