  1. Hi. I was recently informed that the Atarimax USB SIO2PC adapter works with Respeqt. I downloade version 4 and it seems to want me to pick a com port, but it does not appear the Atarimax cable uses a com port and the software cannot see it. Is there a trick to getting the Atarimax USB SIO2PC to work with Respeqt? As always, thanks for any help anyone is willing to provide. Todd
  2. The Mac thing is about drivers. There are no Mac drivers for it. If it is compatible with other software it would have to be on Windows. That was pretty clear to me when I bought it (because his software is windows) so I was prepared for that.
  3. Well, his SIO2PC seems to be incompatible with real printers, and he hasn't responded to my support request I sent asking about it a week ago. And he hasn't posted to his forum in almost a year. I was (apparently) wrong about his device not working with third-party software. My fault for believing what I read here without confirming it independently.
  4. Well, I predicted I would get flamed. I was not wrong.
  5. Agreed. Integrated Circuits were not a huge leap for us. It was the inevitable evolution of technology, each "thing" (to use the technical term) building on what came before us. It's not like we went from learning how to create fire to building 8-bit computers over a weekend. As the T-shirt I recently got my daughter for her birthday says:
  6. The keys on my 1200XL are more yellow than white. Is that what they looked like new? If not, has anyone had luck whitening them? Thanks.
  7. At the risk of getting flamed, I'm going to make the observation that it appears (to me) that Steve used to be more responsive than he is now. Looking at his own Forum, he has not posted there since October 2, 2016. He has 1034 posts over the 13 years between 2003 and 2016. That is an average of 80 posts per year, followed by almost an entire year with no posts. I hear people saying great things about the support they received from Steve IN THE PAST. What I'm NOT hearing is a lot of great things about the support Steve has provided lately. What I hear instead is: Sometimes it takes a while for him to respond. He is busier than normal He has a life We should be grateful that he created so many great things for the community He's not making much money off of this. I get all of that. And if people were made aware of that BEFORE making a purchase, they could decide whether they have concerns with that or not. Steve has a lot of supporters, but speaking of my own experience, I purchased his SIO2PC, which is a closed system that only works with his software and he is the only one that can provide support. Because of issues I had with his SIO2PC device, (that I cannot get a response from him on) I ended up purchasing a printer cable and an APE Face that I didn't need because it turned out his SIO2PC was conflicting with the ability to print to a real printer, rather than an issue with my 850 interface or my printer cable. Personally, I've decided to cut my losses and have ordered a similar competing device from someone else. I wish Steve the best, but I am no longer willing to call myself his customer. Todd
  8. Where did you get the rubber feet? (I need some...)
  9. My bad. Sorry. I misread the chart at the top showing wihen the last time a newer or older machine had been found to mean the last time the whole list was updated. I did not notice the edit tag at the bottom. Than you for keeping this list, it is fascinating information!
  10. Also, the first post in this thread says it hasn't been updated since 2009. Is that true? If so, I was thining of creating a Google Docs spreadsheet to catalog everything from that first thread and then everything since 2009, but didn't want to do that if someone else has already done so.
  11. Sorry, I mistyped. My 1200XL was made in Taiwan. For some reason, I thought everything before the 800XL was made in Cupertino. Cleary that is incorrect. Thank you.
  12. Just got a "working" 1200XL off eBay where none of the keys actually work. Ordered a Mylar! Here is my SN and label. I did not know they made 1200's in Hong Kong. I assume they are of inferior build quality? (Is that a true assumption?) 72R DA 24821 253
  13. I sent an email to Steve on August 7th reporting that I am unable to print to a real printer when my SIO2PC is hooked up. (It appears that even when I have it turned off in the software settings it still conflicts with a real printer kind of like if you have a real drive as D1 and have an ATR image loaded as drive 1 in the software.) Still waiting patiently for a response. Todd
  14. I just got a 1200XL. The M key works if I press hard and backspace works. nothing else works, including all the silver keys. I looked at the metallic paint pens. They are $25. The Best Mylars are $40. Pretty much a no brainer, I'm ordering the mylar! -Todd
  15. So, I went through all of my Atari AC output adapters and checked the voltage. All of the "9" volt adapters are between 9.8 and 10.1 volts. Interestingly, the "9.5" volt adapter that came with the 1027 printer was like 9.01 volts. Is there any danger of these adapters hurting a disk drive, computer or other device with these higher than specified voltages? Do any of these adapters cause failure like the 5-volt 800xl ingot adapters can? Thanks for the info!
  16. We used to have to stick a pencil in there to keep it on so we could copy cartridges by running the copy program and then inserting the cart. EDIT: Damn you autocorrect!
  17. It should not work that way. If the door I open, the computer should be off.
  18. 2. They didn't want you to remove or insert a cart with the power on. It should power off when the door is opened.
  19. Also, when it is apart an you are trying to power it up, don't forget to push the interlock switch down that the cartridge door pushes down when it is closed. These things are tanks. If it is not getting a red light, I agree wiht DrV, start with the power supply. The Atari 800 is much more modular than the other computers. Swap out the different boards (once you have it apart) to see which board is causing the issue. -Todd
  20. Looks like that is only 2.1 amps. Is thaat enough?
  21. Actually this one seems to have a similar label but the top part is cut off that would show where it was made.
  22. That's what I was afraid of. Has anyone found a suitable modern replacement? Thanks.
