  1. Yeah, D is one of those games that IMO has not stood the test of time. I can't imagine trying it for the first time now, plenty of older games still hold up, D (and many others) is not one of them.

    AKSHUALLY!

I played D for the first time this year and I thought it was okay for its time, retroactively lol. I think I wouldn't have bothered if I had played it then, since it's so short. Even if it's super slow.

  2. $400 CAD damn! You probably could have scored a CIB Sanyo 3DO console for that ;) I guess I'm not an RPG fan really, the most i've ever paid for a game was $70 I think it was and that was for an Atari Jaguar game.

Yeah but where you're at it's more like $300 USD. I like RPGs, they used to be my go-to style, but it's more about getting that hot 3DO game on my shelf. Prices ARE rising, so there was no sense in waiting. There's one on eBay as of writing that is sure to sell for about 1,5x that.

  3. I remember playing D back in the day, but I don't think I could revisit that one. Not sure about Alone in the Darks though. I just downloaded the English translation, looking forward to giving it a go sometime.

The best 3DO horror games that are still playable today are probably Monster Manor and Killing Time.

AitD 1/2 are the type of game you had to be there at the time to appreciate today, unless you're CRAZY about survival horror history. I'd play the original Resident Evil over those any day.

  4. Not too easy to track down these days.... it's a decent enough RPG, have a copy myself, but not longbox. Not worth the money IMO.

I got one from a french seller. 266EUR shipped, slightly more than $400CAD. Not bad considering the spikes in price that have been happening recently. No expensive videogame is worth its price in terms of gameplay, let's get real.

  5. Inspired by the thread about finishing Road Rash.

Thread reserved for members to post videos or pictures of 3DO game endings. Simple stuff: beat a game, take a pic or video and post it here.

We'll then be able to keep a list of which game(s) we've beaten, and maybe keep track of high scores or times to beat just for kicks. It can spoil some games for people, sure, but it can also serve to satisfy gamers who just couldn't be arsed finishing a game they were playing by showing them the ending they gave up on.

  6. Alright I've never owned or played this on the 3DO. I have it on the Saturn and beat it in about 1.5-2 hours or so on the first try. The graphics there have not aged well but Laura still looks somewhat hot for a digital age chick :) The gameplay was crazy slow on the Saturn so if the 3DO is about the same or worse I'd probably pass personally since I've done the Saturn one already. But as a gore and horror game fan I think this was a good starter game to the genre back when it came out. Once Resident Evil came out that changed everything for the horror genre. My personal favorite for survival horror is actually Manhunt 2, that shit was awesome!

It is slow. Real slow. Not that it lags or loads too much (ala Lost Eden, guh), it just moves slow. This is mostly an interactive CGI movie right? On a first playthrough, backtracking anywhere quickly becomes annoying. I don't want to spoil anything, but during the part with the QTE, I kept missing my inputs so falling down, getting back and re-starting the QTE scene got old reaaaal quick.

One thing I forgot to mention is how weak the plot is. Maybe something got lost in translation, but I doubt that's really the problem. The "reveal" at the end is sort of lame and the weird supernatural/spiritual/possessed madman type of horror doesn't pay off at all. Most puzzles are just there as a hurdle to get over and they don't tie well into the narrative either. It's all very tropey.

D was good for its time.

  7. Damn! I grabbed one at that price as well. Oh well, another case to open. :(

Listing's gone now. I had already paid so we'll see if I can receive this or not. Maybe it's Atari or AT that had the listing taken down, you never know. But really, the listing clearly said 86 sold, yet the seller had 0 feedback as seller in the past year. MEH.
