Backbit now supports both 40 and 80 column modes. According to the list it’s only for 40 columns.

A couple of feel good photos from when I was trying it out. Obviously I had to test the autoboot with real floppy. Some two player sessions are already planned for the near future!
Nice! -

Thanks a lot!

I can only chime in. The BackBit support seems great!

Evie has found the loading issue and has fixed the BackBit firmware. It looks like it has been released on the BackBit download section already.

Thanks! I'll wait for your message!
I did some investigations. The 2 MHz mode isn’t turned on until after the loading is done, unless you are autobooting with the 80-column button pressed. Did you do that?
If you didn’t, it looks like a more severe BackBit compatibility issue that needs more work. I have ordered a BackBit unit in order to look at it later but it will take some time. There’s no guarantee that I can make a workaround for this. -
That is great. I am following your thread so I will test when something is available. Thank you for your efforts!
I can DM you with a link to a test version this weekend probably so you can confirm if it’s working or not. -
If the BackBit can be detected reliably from software.
It looks like that should be possible. -
Is there any fix? I am assuming no..
If the BackBit can be detected reliably from software. I can patch the game to run in slow mode. I’m checking the BackBit forum now.

I found the issue in the specifications of BackBit.
”Works in C128 slow mode”
The fast mode is used and that’s why the cartridge doesn’t work. -
I tried to play this tonight using a BackBit cartridge, but no dice.
That was rather surprising. I don’t have access to a BackBit unit so I can’t test myself but I’ll order one so I can see what’s going on with that. -
Great game! Very original, cool concept.
Thanks!-

Hmm. I wasn't allowed to edit it. Perhaps because of reactions to the post. Anyways, thanks for pointing out the error.

The link is 404 BTW. Do you have an alternate link? Thanks!
A typo! I’ll edit the post. -
This couldn't come at a better time since the legendary Ray Carlsen just helped me diagnose and fix my own C128
Congratulations then!-

Perhaps any site these days that has zero tracking cookies and zero scripts running in the background, is considered suspect just due to that?
Haha, interesting idea! I hope it’s not just using AI to look for unusual pages. That would be a complete disaster. The funny thing is that Bitdefender happily accepts the direct link to the video. So the video itself isn’t flagged as problematic.

I heard that Bitdefender is classifying the page, that contains no tracking, no cookies, no javascript, just an embedded video, as malware. It must be the video link it chokes on for some reason. You can watch the video by a direct link to it instead.

The game was always meant to be free. I never meant to go public with the itch.io idea.
I investigated itch.io to accept donations. It turned out that I had to register at the IRS to avoid a blanket trade tax of 30%, which would be waste of people’s money. I don’t want to be registered in US at all because of privacy reasons and the direction US seems to be heading with Trump in command. On top of that I was late with the itch.io idea and the IRS takes six weeks to process an application. So even if I wanted, it would have been difficult to pull off.-

A teaser trailer for the upcoming brand new Commodore 128 game Volley For Two has been released.

second, in the editor I use (Aseprite), sprites appear wider than they really are (see the example below), so this resolves the whole 'chin' thing !
Sprites are probably only notably taller on NTSC. On PAL it probably looks more like the Aseprite image.

I happily stumbled upon this thread. It is very interesting to see the progress so far with recompilation and modding. Since there is talk about porting BL2 in the process I get curious about how you plan to solve that with the sprite hardware. Is the plan to have max 2 enemies or reduce colors, use some flickering technique or even software sprites to get at least two colors for three or more enemies?

[Brainstorming] How would you name the next Xbox after Series S/X?

Considering the desire by companies to ”reboot” a series and cause confusion about the name, I predict the next xbox will be called ”Original Xbox”.
