  1. Just purchased an Atari XEGS console and an SMS game from Conrad Hart. Everything went great and he packs very well. Highly recommended!
  2. This is a good point. There is definitely what I call the 'Nostalgia Wave'. When people hit about 35 or 40 (sometimes earlier), they are reaching a point where they begin to look back to fond memories of simple pleasures and begin to collect the icons of that time. By 45 or 50 they are typically at a point where time and finances allow them to indulge their nostalgia even more actively. Later, unfortunately, the numbers of people collecting a given era decline as people shuffle off this mortal coil. The next wave follows close behind as the next generation of people and consoles hit that nostalgic time. I enjoy collecting all video games. My fond memories are of the Atari, but my sons grew up with the NES and SNES. I get to ride 3 waves!!
  3. This seemed like a good spot to let everyone know this. I'll be taking the month of August off from selling on GG. I've got 2 busines trips and a garage full of stuff to clean, test, and get ready to list. I'll be back Sept 1st with some fresh listings. Dave
  4. OMG! I hadn't listed this out for a long time. No wonder my garage is so full. 5. Anyone have a spare startup disc for the GameCube Gameboy player?
  6. Bought several GBA games from wood_jl. Everything was great! Good communication, good games, fast shipping, good packing! Would highly recommend!
  7. Hate to show my ignorance, but what does PayPal Gift Shipped mean?
  8. I love my 500XJ's! If anyone has been wanting to try one, this looks like a good chance. Good price and the pics look like it's in great shape.
  9. Google Base is the feed that makes the listing show up under Google shopping. Not sure why it's called that. Basically, when someone does a search under the 'Shopping' link in Google, or selects the Shopping link from the search results of a regular Google search, it filters the search to only show items for sale and not all the other results. It works great.
  10. Hi Jerry, I think you are right that most GameGavel members currently are gamers and collectors, but there are all different levels of them on the site. Some have a long time in the hobby and are looking for the more rare items and there are also those just getting started that are looking to fill in gaps in the more common games/systems. I do think that the Google Base feeds are also starting to get some traffic from more 'general public' types also, but I don't really have anything to base that on. I sell quite a few common items and sets with no problem. Many are just starting to collect or are branching out to console they haven't played or collected for. One nice thing is that it doesn't cost anything to give GG a try. If your expectations are reasonable, I think you'll find it is a good place for at least some of your sales. There is value in not putting all your eggs in one basket. If nothing else, Ebay has tought us that. Dave
  11. I can confirm this. The traffic on GameGavel has been increasing dramatically and steadily since Mike started doing this. The seller doesn't need to do anything special, just list with a BIN and it will automatically be fed to Google. I've been very happy with GameGavel. Traffic and sales are steadily increasing and Mike is very active and responsive to suggestions and ideas. He truly appreciates all his members and does his best to provide a good place for sellers and customers to find each other. For a rough idea of how this compares with Ebay, just visit the discussion forums on each site. GameGavel's forums are full of people offering ideas, sharing tips, promoting their listings, looking for specific items, etc. Ebay's forums are full of people complaining that eBay's customer service sucks, that traffic and sales are dropping, that they don't take care of the sellers, that they don't listen to buyers needs (search, etc), that they seem more interested in their own short term bottom line than what is best for buyers and sellers. I do take a somewhat different approach on GameGavel than I used to on Ebay. When I was selling on eBay, sell thru there was still pretty good (I understand this is changing for the worse). I could pretty much count on selling everything I listed each week. On GameGavel, I am viewing it more as maintaining a store type inventory. I can tell when my selection is starting to get thin as sales start to taper off. That's my cue to stock the shelves again. When people find something they need they then take the time to see if there's anything else they want to pick up to get the combined shipping. The key for me is keeping a good variety so they will be likely to find that first item that makes them start looking for more things to round out the order. I'd encourage you to give GameGavel a good try. I think you'll be glad you did. Dave (edited for ypto)
  12. Yep, I've got a pretty simple Excel sheet I use. Only 'fancy' thing is a pivot table to show totals of 'have' and 'don't have' by console. Columns for console, title, company, rarity, have cart, have instructions, have box, and notes. If I don't keep it simple, I won't keep it updated.
  13. The vorpal bunny in C=64 Wizard's Crown. Shades of Monte Python!!
  14. Yep, I was davewake but changed my id so it would match here and on GameGavel. I've bought from you a couple of times.
  15. Maybe he really was just having a bad day yesterday. Chris Hi Chris, Yeah I'd say that's probably it. His last question shows a willingness to learn. I'd email him and let him know that he has to use the FRB to get the $4.95 price, but that he can order these online and have them delivered free. If he prints postage on line, he can request a pick up also. If he turns pricky again and doesn't ship, don't forget to file a Non Performing Seller with Ebay as well as the Item Not Received with PayPal, and of course the coveted red donut. Doesn't sound like that is going to happen though. Dave
  16. Ladies and Gentlemen we have a winner!! (2 winners, actually) kev4918 troglodyte The winners have been notified and have until June 5th to place their orders with me and also with Mike. Thanks to everyone for listing!! Dave
  17. Last bump before the winners are announced in the first week of May! Still time to list, sell, and win!
  18. Okay, I didn't know there was meatloaf involved. I'll let you off the hook, I guess. If your wife ever loses her voice and needs a 'guest lecturer', just let me know. My wife would be glad to fill in!
  19. That said....... I do sometimes wonder how much of Rick's 'knowledge' is just BS also. There was one episode where he was showing a person that a coin was fake because it was cast instead of struck. He described the striking process as 'They have a die with one side of the coin and they put the coin blank on it, then a big guy takes a sledge hammer with the other side of the die on it and swings it as hard as he can so it makes both sides of the coin.' Ummmm.... Rick..... Wouldn't it be a lot easier if they put the blank on one side of the die and then put the other side of the die on top of it and then hit that with a hammer? (Preferably a mechanical hammer so you don't need the big guy with the sledgehammer). I'd think it would be pretty hard to swing a hammer with a die made on it and precisely hit the coin blank to strike the coin, but that's just my 'non-expert' opinion.
  20. It was Cory and Chum that bought it and they don't know chit about anything. I feel sorry for Rick and the Old Man if they ever have to rely on Cory's brains for their income.
  21. Ummmm..... jetset..... The item you pictured is an obvious fake! I know for sure that a genuine Hozer ball would have the Atari logo done in crayon!! Please, for the good of the community, stop trying to fool people by buying cheap Atari branded items and putting the fake Hozer stamp on them. This type of behavior will only lead to copycats and pretty soon we won't be able to tell genuine Hozer items from the cheap fake Hozer copies. LOL!!
  22. Wait a minute! You mean I get an autographed picture of your fat ass, lazy ass son AND his fat ass, lazy ass lackey!! Well, alrighty then!
  23. Check out this answer I got to my ASQ. Keep in mind this is from a guy that every week harps on how important it is to get documentation on collectible items. (They did respond right away, though. I was a bit surprised by that.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear goldsilverpawn, Hi guys. Love your show! Will the winning bidder get documentation to verify that this is the Atari that appeared on the episode of your show? Thanks, Dave -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- no i do not provide that. i will send an autographed photo signed by all the stars though - goldsilverpawn -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...
  24. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Shawn. Truly appreciated. Dave
