I am a bit surprised that it is not vice versa. The Adventure code is slightly optimized (iny instead of ldy #$01), which would indicate a later date.

Adventure started first, the code was used to build Superman, which came out first, then Adventure was completed.  So that's how Adventure both provided an engine for Superman, but was still more advanced by the time it came out.

  2. Why can't he archive it? It is a tape &or disk. It isn't a cart. I guess he doesn't any longer have an Atari computer and drive, all he has is the original medium.

Correct. He has no access to that kind of equipment. I have many Atari computers, but not the knowhow to transfer it to a safer medium.

You may want to have a look on facebook. Freddy Offenga (aka Frankenstein of the High-Tech Team) is very busy with the Atari Preservation Project, that actually does what you want with Espionage.

You can find this at https://www.facebook...ationCollective and I'm sure that he'll be able to help here.

    Thanks. I will try that.

  3. It turns out there are plenty of unpublished Atari Force pages out there, though these are by Andru and Giordano, so have more credence.

I recently got this authentic Atari Force page:

    http://www.comicartf...882&GSub=111107

And just a few minutes ago won another two pages on ebay that I haven't yet been able to identify:

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 2708367981741?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=270836798174&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

Anyone seen these two published? I can't find my mini-comics and I know the ones on AtariAge are missing a few pages...

  4. So I pre-ordered the R2-D2 Xbox360 Kinect bundle. I know I already have an Xbox360 (a nifty red Resident Evil model that available for sale if anyone's interested), but I could not turn it down.

That, plus the upcoming Blu-ray set has got Star Wars games on my mind. I checked the archives and we haven't tackled this one before.

What's the best Atari-related Star Wars game? Now, to qualify the games have to either be produced/published by Atari (basically the arcade titles) or be available on an Atari machine. The countless adaptations/ports of the arcade games don't count. (Not even the fairly direct ones like the GameCube.)

So, to recap, here they are. Be sure to let me know if I missed one. (Highlighted titles link to the AtariAge database.)

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Atari 2600, Parker Bros.)

Star Wars: Jedi Arena (Atari 2600, Parker Bros.)

Star Wars: The Arcade Game (Atari 2600, Parker Bros.)

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Death Star Battle (Atari 2600, Parker Bros.)

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Ewok Adventure (Atari 2600, Parker Bros. - unreleased)

Star Wars: The Arcade Game (Atari 5200, Parker Bros.)

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Death Star Battle (Atari 5200, Parker Bros.)

    Star Wars (Arcade, Atari)

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Arcade, Atari)

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Arcade, Atari)

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Death Star Battle (Atari 8-Bit, Parker Bros.)

Star Wars: The Arcade Game (Atari ST, Domark)

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Atari ST, Domark)

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Atari ST, Domark)

  5. Oh, I *hate* the XL. It's too big and bulky and everything looks pixellated because it's stretched. I still say the 3DS is the way to go. Some games control better with the 3DS' analog knub, even if at their heart they're still getting a digital signal. Mario Kart DS, for example, is a lot smoother. The 3DS actually helps make DS games play better. A more significant plus to me than a honking big screen.

It's perfectly big, and not bulky. The original gameboy, that was bulky. Games don't really look pixellated, they look great. There's no K in nub. Mario Kart DS plays better with an Arkanoid paddle than with a digital nub, not that the 3DS or XL support that. The 3DS does nothing to help DS games play better, and for somebody who was harping on how they look on an XL, I'm surprised you haven't noticed that they look worse on a 3DS.

Opinions vary. To me, the DSXL is too big to fit comfortably in my pocket, unlike my DS and 3DS, therefore, it is too big. Games look pixellated to me, by which I mean I can see the pixels more clearly. There's a space in "Game Boy". I fail to see the relevance of your Arkanoid paddle point, since they are not readily available. I find the 3DS makes many DS games play better, that's why I said it. I don't find that DS games look worse on a 3DS, which is why I *didn't* say it.

As for the issue of the 3D. It *is* something of a gimmick. Surprisingly, unlike the Virtual Boy, none of the games have really *used* the 3D in a way to enhance the gameplay. I think this may be due to the desire to make the games work just as well with the 3D turned off. And the point is, they *do* play very well with the 3D turned off. The DS can't handle the graphics of Zelda or Street Fighter. And those games are worth playing, even if you turn the 3D off, which I often do.

On the other hand, I have fallen in love with 3D photography. The 3DS is proving to be an entry drug to that world for me. (I've been a photographer for many years, but never dabbled in 3D before.)

As for backwards compatibility, all I ask is that the *last* iteration be supported. The GBC supported GB. The GBA supported GB/GBC. The DS supported GBA. The 3DS supports DS. Going further back is silly and would add unneccesarily to an already expensive piece of equipment. How many games am I going to play at once anyway? Do I need access to *every* handheld game ever? No. That's what my GB, GBC, GBA & DS are for.

In my opinion, there's a lot more to the 3DS than just "games with a 3D effect". It's more powerful and more functional than the two previous iterations of the DS hardware.

  6. It still needs some games, but I'd say if you were considering a DS or DSi, the 3DS is the way to go unless you need GBA combatibility or the titles specific to the DSi store.

Nah, if you were considering a DS or DSi, get the XL. If you're considering playing new handheld Nintendo games in 2012 and beyond, get a 3DS. 3DS isn't great for DS games; the XL is.

  7. I think there are a couple of choices missing from the poll, at least it seems to me; I suggest additional choices:

    * I will consider it more seriously after addition price drop(s)

    * I will consider it more seriously after the redesign [that is now expected of Nintendo handhelds]

    * I will consider it more seriously after the redesign, price drop(s), and additional exclusive titles

....or something along those lines. I didn't want to vote completely "against" the 3DS, so I couldn't vote in this poll.

Those just cloud the issue. It was a question about your situation *now*. All those = "I'm still not interested." There could be a "yet" after that sentence, but it isn't necessary. The point is, you're not interested.

this has been discussed in another thread.

Thank you for the information. And your point is???????

  8. So, the 3DS didn't set the world on fire. It was more Game Boy micro / PSPGo than Game Boy Advance. So, Nintendo has dropped the price a whopping 40% and thrown a bunch of free ones and zeros at those of us who already had the machine.

What about you guys? Did you already have one? Did you get one to snag the free data? Did you take advantage of the early price droppers? Do you still not give a darn?

Me, I got a used one about a month and a half ago and I love it. Regular DS games often play better on it and the 3D camera is a hoot. Other extras (Netflix, etc.) are a bonus, but the heart is the machine and it's a good one. It still needs some games, but I'd say if you were considering a DS or DSi, the 3DS is the way to go unless you need GBA combatibility or the titles specific to the DSi store.

  9. Where's the "None; Link lived and died in two dimensions" option?

Oops. I'm always forgetting to add the "none" option.

But I disagree with your assertion. I never enjoyed the "2D" Zeldas as much as the (what we *used* to call) "3D" ones. The only 2D Zelda I ever finished was "The Minish Cap". But I finished OoT (3X), Majora's Mask (and "Mask of Mujula"), Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

  10. So I've been spending a lot of time running around Hyrule again with the re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 3DS. It got me thinking about the various releases of this landmark game.

    To recap, they are:

    • *The initial gold cartridge release for the Nintendo 64.
*The subsequent grey cartridge for the N64.
*The Wind Waker preorder bonus that included the "Master Quest" for the GAMECUBE.
*The "Collector's Edition" disc available with the Platinum GAMECUBE.
*The 3D/higher rez remake for the 3DS

There's also the question of whether you've imported any of the versions from Japan. (Or elsewhere, I suppose - iQue anyone?)

Full disclosure, I own all five of the regular releases, but no imports. What do (or did) you have?

  11. Okay, so I collect original comic book art. I don't have a lot of pieces, but you can see all my stuff here:

    http://bit.ly/lSMX1y

One of my more recent acquisitions is a page of art described by the auction house (Heritage Auctions) as "Unpublished Atari Force Graphic Novel page 35". The art is by Ernie Colon, whose only published Atari Force art is inking Keith Giffen on a Hukka story.

I'm attaching *my* art to this post. Another page from this project can be found here:

    http://bit.ly/kcDwB2

So, does anyone know anything about this? It's entirely possible that this isn't from an Atari Force project at all. (I don't mind. The price was good enough and the art neat enough to keep anyway.)

Any information at all would be appreciated.

  12. Okay, what else do you guys collect out there? I tried to think of all the stuff I could, but people collect a *lot* of different things, so it's hard to hit them all. If you don't see one listed that you *really* want included, make note of it and I can add it in before you vote.

  13. We're talking video game consoles and computers here, people. Not hard drives, printers, add-ons, etc. And we aren't talking *different* machines, either. If you've got fourteen 2600s, that's fourteen right there. And don't go sneaky counting Geminis or Sears Video Arcades, either. (Okay, if you do, I won't tell anyone.) But *do* count the different stand-alones (even "Touch Me", if you've got one).

I'll leave it up to you whether the "Plug and Play" systems count. For me, they do.

So, where do you land on the spectrum?
