Legacy versus ARM-based 2600 Game Development

My first game Panic! Rooms uses DPC+. It would of been a struggle on standard tech. My second Game, Save Gaia, is aiming to use original hardware only. People are still playing and making new games, that’s the main thing. -

Also, reusing the variable statusbarlength seems to interfere with the textkernel, is this used by the kernel? Thank you again.

Hi Karl, If I use Superchip RAM, 64kbSC, my TextBank on your Kernel becomes seriously overfilled. Do you have any ideas why this would affect the TextKernel? Thanks

Hi all. I am running my playfield at pfrowheight=7. Does this mean that I can use var28 onwards as they are now free from being used for the playfield? Kind thanks ?

Hey all, I was wondering if there was a way to Position player0 behind player1 as Batari Basic defaults to Player0 in front of Player1? I know you can do this with the playfield but cant find any info on sprites? Kind thanks, Michael @Generation2

Hi All, It's been over a year since my last post about the development of this game, and just thought I'd update you, development is still going strong. Over Christmas I took the decision to completely overhaul the engine after running out of Sprite ROM, which put the whole project at risk! Luckily, rewriting the engine after proving the concept of an actual, working, turn-based JRPG on the 2600 has freed up enough space to bring it to completion. I'm hoping this will be the first of a trilogy about the land of Gaia, dpending on how successful the first one is. We are being published by AtariAge, who demoed the proof-of-concept build at PRGE, and the new engine should hopefully be unveiled in alpha demo form on ZeroPage this week (or next). The game should be a decent number of hours long. You will have multiple dungeons, over-world, shops, itinerary, inns, turn-based battles with a large selection of baddies, a story, text, cut-scenes, environmental music, player leveling, Armour and Weapon leveling, elemental spells, animations and save feature. All these features have been built and work! The engine works, it's smooth, it's easy to use.... its just a case of filling up with content now. Finally, genuine JRPG is 100% coming to Atari 2600 on a physical release, very soon!! Yes, all assets and final ROM has now been submitted to AtariAge. So hopefully we will have this out as soon as possible! Please check out the facebook.com/Generation2Games page for updates on this game and on the new RPG Save Gaia that is now in development.

How do I clear the VDELP registers please? Karl, the last build before introducing the mini kernel had perfect line ups.

Ok, here is an odd one. Since installing the mini-kernel and going to a pflines = 7 solution, both the P0 and the P1 refuse to line up like they did before. Is this a bug possibly?
