  1. Hold on, how did I miss that? Brian Puthuff's face icon is so cool! It's happy when it's carrying something (which is most of the time in Adventure), and glowering when that $%&* bat has snatched it away. Hilarious and so reflective of how the player feels!
  2. I love the way he made the visor open slightly as the helmet drops at the end of the knight's stride, with the plume on his head trailing behind. It's all completely sensible physics. And still only four frames of animation!
  3. Thanks! The images for the side-to-side animations were really different from the up-and-down animations, which was why I was surprised that the up-and-down animation was the only movement animation included. But thanks very much. Between you and me and everyone at AtariAge, I really like Juston Hairgrove's knight much better anyway. =)
  4. [figured out that "YeOlde" is prefixed to everybody's icon name]
  5. Oh wait, there it is, it's just incredibly tiny and only 1/4 of the headings are there.
  6. Ack! You didn't post my submission. http://whiteshell.com/jacob/atari/lilknight.html Also, can we have names on these so we can say "I like {name}'s family circus guy"?
  7. Me too, I really want to see what everyone else came up with. I hope your entry is included!
  8. I'm not a high-volume eBay user, but I wait to leave positive feedback, as a seller, until I know the transaction is complete. I don't wait for feedback from the buyer, necessarily, just for confirmation of receipt and news that the buyer got what he/she expected. Otherwise, a return/replacement/refund may be in order, and that means more opportunity for good or bad behavior. Am I doing it all wrong?
  9. http://wordlist.sourceforge.net/ dict.org has some links if you want definitions, too.
  10. I've done that with MESS, but it doesn't simulate a vector screen well enough to play some games. Its pixels are binary, either on or off, but a vector display has variations in intensity. Where two lines overlap, the image is brighter. For instance, in Cosmic Chasm the map screen shows a blinking dot representing your current location, but this overlaps the lines of the map. On a Vectrex it's crystal clear what this means, but in MESS it's just a static image with no dot (because the dot is no brighter than the line behind it).
  11. Argh! No, it's not...I really should have mentioned that. That's the cause, then?
  12. This is really cool. I was thinking this kind of thing should be possible but here you've gone and proved it. =)
  13. No, but Cave 1K might. Does it happen before, while the screen is flickering or after that? Yes, it does happen while the screen is flickering blue, but it is in Splatform, not Cave 1K. Hm, weird. Does it happen all the time? Which controllers did you have attached? 919425[/snapback] It does seem to happen all the time. I have a joystick in the left port and a pair of paddles in the right one (that took me a while to figure out, the right-port paddles thing...it's a good idea to use both, don't get me wrong, I just forgot to put them on that port between reading it here and trying to play the game. ).
  14. Thomas! I love your stuff! Thanks for another one! =) So, I tried Swoops! (NTSC) in emu and via Supercharger on my 4-switch 2600. Cave 1k is fantastic. Splatform works fine in emu, but the screen rolls (vertical hold problem) during death on the real thing ... is it supposed to do that? I didn't notice anything wrong with Crash & Dive, but I'm not very good at it =) If I press Reset (not Fire) with the cursor on the 3-Athlon option, I get a blank screen and it doesn't let me return to the main menu.
  15. Definitely! Especially since there aren't any disclaimers. Even if it didn't actually say "play" there ought to be a caveat on the page. Since Asteroids is a well-known game, and the nature of games involves play, most people will assume it's playable.
  16. Wow, that art belongs on a wall, not getting ketchup dripped on it by one of our fellow simians. Gorgeous! I hope Al will put a link to the auction on the main page so we don't miss it.
  17. I knew I'd read this somewhere...according to Gizmodo, they're not playable. Disappointing, but it'd be hard to play with one hand anyway. =) And of course, they only offer it with a leather strap, which I wouldn't buy...
  18. Really nice level editor! Wow! The only thing missing that would have been helpful was a rotate left/right/up/down function. I love "cryptkeeper's" Adventure castle. After I did a few purely obstacle-oriented designs, I did a few tributes...Pitfall (the crocodile), Go Fish (I hope my barely recognizable sharks don't offend Bobby ), and Chopper Command (the jet).
  19. Hmm! Does the delay mean there will be time to fix other issues identified (HMOVE bars, for instance)? EDIT: Aha, no it does not: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...ndpost&p=917013
  20. Worked with my driving controller on real hardware...DC movement seems a little slow, but I guess that's part of the challenge. Cool music!
  21. My SO noticed some 5-inch "Zenith" branded LCD displays for sale for $50 at the Best Buy store attached to her office building. I'm tempted to get one to build into a portable system. Does anybody have any experience with them? Here's a link to one that looks the same: http://joystores.com/product_info.php/products_id/1878 The image quality looked pretty good, but I can see why they wouldn't sell; they attach to PS2 and XBOX with a rather clumsy looking adjustable clamp. The GameCube version looks moderately better, having a fitted frame that snaps onto the top of the unit. More relevantly, the GC version also takes power and signal from the GC, while the others have DC and 1/8" AV inputs. So would it be easier to use the XBOX or PS2 version rather than having to work with the GC pinouts? Or does the GC provide a nice voltage level that would be friendlier to the FB2 (the input on the XBOX display model was 7V)? Anyone know? EDIT: Also just noticed this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=48609
  22. Just building the mod is way more fun than that!
  23. Ooh, vector games! That would be fantastic! Especially if they could squeeze in nice vector emulation. It would require alpha channels and anti-aliasing to capture the intensity interactions and smooth lines of vector graphics.
  24. Except in the two-player version...which is pretty fun! I do agree it would be nice to lose a size when you die, though.
  25. It's neat to watch the tank navigate the maze...have you released the source? I'm curious if you coded the "best route from here" into the map or if the tank is actually reacting to the playfield. Could the guided missile routine be used to let the tank shoot around corners? That seems to be the weakness in the maze; you can hide behind a wall and wait for the AI tank to approach the same way again and again, and just shoot it at an angle when it comes by. If it used the guided missile there, you couldn't do that.
