  1. Just received a very large box of boxes (how odd is that?!?) from Marc. This is actually not my first purchase from Marc, but clearly I forgot to leave feedback last time (sorry Marc). Marc was very easy to work with, helped me with questions about the various custom boxes he provides, and ultimately sold me an awesome stack of incredible boxes! These will make outstanding homes for several orphan carts I have. :-D Thanks for everything you do Marc, and especially for selling me these boxes! Outstanding quality of workmanship on these items.

  2. Just bought a very fine Intellivision sealed copy of Masters of the Universe: The Power of He-Man from Lathe26 and the transaction went very smoothly. Excellent packing, fast shipping, and hassle free purchase! Highly recommended and I would do business with again.

  3. I have several sealed Atari 2600, Intellivision, and 1 CV game here for sale. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/227327-fs-atari-2600-cv-intv-gbgbagbc-n64-nes-ps1-ps2-psp-guides/ These are not crazy eBay prices as they are reasonably priced for people to open and play. If this helps, pick out what you want and I will box it up for you. I do not have any sealed NES games, but you should be able to get some on eBay in the $10-$15 price range as long as you do not care about the title.

  4. Intellivision Snafu, complete, sealed. What is the condition of the box? Is it worthy to be put on display with my favourite games?

Also, the 61 intellivision overlays, Im basically looking for better quality replacements and are there doubles? I didn't want to end up with 3,4,5,etc of the same kind from this lot.

And the Snafu, CIO Im interested in too. Can you please put a temporary hold on the above?

I'm posting these questions publicly in case I don't get certain items, so that others will benefit from the description.

Edit: Condition of the best Atari 2600 Adventures of Tron Sealed - R3 $15.00 ? (Im looking for a sealed copy that looks like it was fresh off the assembly line)

    • SNAFU Sealed - pix attached. I think it is worthy of display myself, it will be shipped in a plastic protective case as shown in the first post.
    • 61 Overlays - pix attached. There are duplicates but the cost per overlay averages just under $0.50; Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (5), Atlantis (1), Baseball (6), B-17 Bomber (2), Beauty & the Beast (2), Demon Attack (7), Frog Bog (4), Golf (1), Kool-Aid Man (1), Las Vegas Poker & Blackjack (14), Lock 'n' Chase (1), Mouse Trap (1), Reversi (2), Space Battle (1), Tennis (1), Triple Action (5), Tron Deadly Discs (3), Tron Maze-a-Tron (2), Utopia (2), Atari 5200 Galaxian (2) - Keep in mind that many are different variations of the overlays, and any "extras" you can use to trade for others you do not have.
    • SNAFU CIO(1) - pix attached
    • Adventures of Tron Sealed - pix attached; looks like it was just made

  5. NO!

DLC is evil enough. What you are suggesting is ludicrous...

You must be kidding...this is one of the few suggestions in this thread that is both reasonable and achievable. When Soul Calibur IV was released there was an agreement for a unique version for Xbox 360 including Yoda and a unique version for PS3 including Darth Vader. So that deal was signed and delivered, similar to what is being done for the multiple Flashback units. However, after the games were released instead of requiring gamers to buy both consoles and both games in order to have the full experience, you could buy Darth Vader as DLC on the Xbox 360 and buy Yoda as DLC on the PS3. Not all gamers did, but many were grateful and did buy the DLC. I agree that releasing a game only to withhold a portion to release later as DLC for extra money is despicable, however when business need drives your marketing decisions and forces your hand, this is a way to please everyone. Consumers can purchase 0-3 of the 3 console variations and apply 0-2 DLC upgrades to each. This is a viable solution based on where we are now. We need to stop focusing on "what we would have done", or "how we wish it was", and instead suggest ways to make it better based on where we are now.

  6. Well, there is the opinion that we are too entitled. I say our energy may be misdirected. We need to seek, support and promote projects that do reflect our needs. Usually that comes from within the community. Just look at jaybird3rd and his Aquarius RAM expansion and multi-carts. You can get what you want. It's not going to come from Dollar General or Walmart, though.

I am a bit surprised at the "Too Entitled" piece. Just because we as consumers have differing opinions and want a better product does not make us entitled, rather it makes us informed. And as theloon says above "we need to seek, support and promote projects that do reflect our needs" - I agree with that. However if the product does not reflect our needs and we will be speaking with our dollars, it seems reasonable for gamers to let it be known that we will not be buying a product and why. That gives the manufacturer insight as to customer views, even if it is an isolated portion of the target audience. WIthout discussions and comments like in this thread there would be little reason for a product to adapt/change/improve. Many who are going to buy will buy regardless of comments in this thread. Some who say they will not buy may eventually buy anyway. I see no reason to say retro gamers feel entitled simply because they desire a better product. Everyone has different criteria which would cause them to buy, unfortunately for some of us that criteria is no longer being met. That should not reflect poorly on the customer simply because the customer's needs are not being met. Open discussion like this is what drove change and improved many products over the years including DOS, many other operating systems and software, various game sequels, and even MAME. Without open discussion the only improvements would be driven by the manufacturer on input from a paid focus group.

Sorry I am just getting to this. I will include close=up pictures of your requests tonight.

  8. I had drafted a lenghty response to some of the above posts, but realized it does not matter. We are debating what should have been done instead of discussing what can be done next.

First, I think it was a good idea on Bill's part to share the information. If he had not and we learned of this on release day, then many of us would have returned the units. To me this would have been even worse for AtGames as they would have produced many more units based on perceived demand only to have units returned and now have many unsold units. With the information known upfront they can produce units based on realistic demand. Kudos to Bill. :)

At this point, if possible, I think the best thing AtGames can do to support sellers, customers, and themselves is:

    • Sell the 3 different console variations as planned for $40
    • Include a mail-in offer to upgrade your console with games and overlays only included in V2 for $5 and to upgrade your console with games and overlays only included in V3 for another $5.
    • This mail-in offer would send you a code to unlock the games and also include the overlays.
    • To prevent people from sharing the code and not paying for it, you would have to include your console serial number on the mail-in offer and they would provide you with a unique code in response. This could be easily achieved with an algorythm such that they do not have to maintain a database of codes.
    • This way everyone will be happy in that there are unique consoles per distribution point as they already have in place, but the capability exists to get one complete console if desired for a total of $50.

That seems reasonable to me and I would fully support that.

  9. Where was this "advertised?" Show me a press release or a page on the manufacturer's website. Pre-release box art from TRU doesn't count. Nothing was offered so nothing could have been removed.

Why would a casual buyer need overlays for games that don't really need them?

And why would an enthusiast get all worked up when a fun toy doesn't meet his or her high standards? It's like wailing about the low quality of Happy Meal toys.

LOL, you don't consider the ad on the TRU website as an advertisement? They are advertising products for sale. There are people discussing this on multiple sites and multiple blogs. Information from the inside is being shared both to help stir up interest and to determine appeal to consumers. I understand that the final product is changing based on input from multiple sources, and we are simply trying to influence that change.

This is the Intellivision Flashback being advertised http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=35290526&prodFindSrc=search&cp=

This is the ColecoVision Flashback being advertised http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=35350896&prodFindSrc=search&cp=

I don't think enthusiasts are all worked up as you put it, just disappointed in the final product as it currently stands. It would have been a cool purchase, now it is simply mildly interesting. If you buy it and enjoy it, then good for you. Not sure why you are talking more about the people who are no longer interested when we are simply talking about the product. As I said above, people on this site and many other sites are discussing this and AtGames is listening. Hopefully the comments from "the enthusiasts" will help encourage a better product and then I will buy one. You seem content with whatever is delivered so you should be happy regardless. ;)

  10. Maybe it's more like going into Burger King expecting fancy French cuisine with nice service and linen tablecloths. Sorry, but you can't have a huge licensed collection for cheap. Vintage game gourmets will need to look elsewhere, and pay more.

Let's not be too shrill about having things "taken away" from this thing that hasn't been delivered yet. The absence of Mouse Trap or Lady Bug is not going to sink this thing.

Your analogy makes no sense. AtGames was going to include a complete set of overlays, for both CV and INTV sets, which was then greatly reduced. They advertised, we wanted, they removed. Your analogy does not work as we are not looking for anything other than what they can provide. A more accurate analogy would be we went to Burger King after watching an advertisement, yet when we got there all they had was Kids Meals for the same price as the advertised adult combo meal.

They are already producing more than one version which is clearly being done for profit trying to get customers to buy multiple versions with subtle differences between each version. They would be better off simply providing a better version with all they can offer rather than multiple versions that separate what they have. I was very excited and had pre-ordered 3 CV sets and 3 INTV sets, now I have cancelled all pre-orders.

I would gladly pay more for a "Gold Version" with all overlays and more games. They could also have a "Silver Version" with perhaps all games but not all overlays, and also have the current version as the "Bronze Version" without all games or overlays. Maybe a "Platinum Version" which was the Gold Version plus removable controllers. These would be better options than what they are offering. Right now the choice is multiple Bronze Versions (seems like 3) to get all they offer. So you end up spending $120 for the 3 consoles, which is simply not worth it to me.

  11. Hmm, I've tried to contact via email twice now, with no success, never getting a reply. I gave up after a month, still no reply. (And yes I checked junk folder)

Just using something like "Atari 2600 Items Wanted for Purchase" in the subject line seems to work fine. Try keeping the subject simple and direct like that and you should be fine.

  12. One point to add to what NIAD said is that a lot of what people were told they were getting has been removed. So with the Burger King analogy, this is like ordering a Whopper with everything and being happy about it only to find you end up with a Turkey burger with no extras other than lettuce. Still food, but not what you wanted. So yes, we should have it our way as that is what was offered and what we wanted. Slowly offerings have been removed to the point of it being a very basic bare bones offering that may appeal to a much smaller audience.

  13.

Again, though, remember who these units are targeted at -- not at 'you' but more like guys like 'me' -- I'm a gamer and more of a modern gamer at that, and I don't have a original Colecovision or any of the games. I just want a system with the original controlers and some of my fav games that I can hook up to my modern TV and play now and then for my nostalgia blast. That's the casual market AtGames is selling these for, and that's where they will do well. The casual market doesn't care about compatibility of the controlers with original units or getting a overlay for each game and all that. It's disappointing, I'm sure, but like Pixelboy said earlier, it's a fine line for AtGames to walk.

That said, I'll be getting one at Sams Club instead for the extra overlays.

Understood, and I am not trying to discourage anyone from buying these. However I am trying to get Bill to let AtGames know that they will be losing many sales because of the two decisions regarding the controllers and the overlays. They are already producing a standard set, a Dollar General set, and a Sam's Club set. It just seems that one of the sets would be a complete set.

  14. I just cancelled my Toys-R-Us pre-order for CV units and INTV units. I was buying more than 1 of each as I like to have 1 to play, 1 as a spare, and 1 to collect. Now this feels expensive for the final product whereas it did not when the controllers were standard and the overlay sets were complete. Bad judgement call for AtGames in my opinion as those who don't care about such things are also less likely to want to purchase one of these at all. Sales will be greatly reduced by this decision and returns will be higher.

  15. any word from Daniel?

I am still hoping these get shipped shortly after AdamCon (July 17-20) as I believe others were trying to coordinate getting the games from Daniel there. It would be great if someone could update us on that specifically.
