Disney puts the hammer to LucasArts :(
RARusk replied to onlysublime's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I did some testing work for them years ago and I wrote up an entry in my blog about my experiences there. This also made their closure all the more poignant for me ("Oh my God! They killed LucasArts! You bastard!"). -

Disney puts the hammer to LucasArts :(

In the fall of 1991 I was employed by LucasFilm Games as a gametester. I did work on two games: "Defenders of Dynatron City" (NES) and "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (The Action Game) (C64, Amiga, PC - and credited within the game manual). It was a temp position and I was let go in early 1992 as these projects wound down. I tried to return to them but was unsuccessful. I left for Colorado in 1993 and haven't been back to California since. After being interviewed by Kotaku about three years ago (because of my GameFAQs work) I realized that I may be able to utilize my guides as a way to maybe return to the gaming industry. Although I have sent resumes to various companies my long term goal was to return to LucasArts Games. As you can imagine, today's news has left me deeply saddened and gutted. I understand what has happened the last few years and the possible long term benefits to this new model but this doesn't make me any less hurt. I don't know if any of these potential projects will head east to Austin. I also don't know if I should try to focus on Disney Interactive, a company I hadn't paid much attention to. Right now I am throughly bummed and the cold, gray skies outside my window perfectly match my dour mood. -

SimCity launch a complete diaster and DRM
RARusk replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
And I am sure that GearBox Software and Sega are also grateful in that it takes some of the heat off their "Aliens: Colonial Marines" fuck-up. I also believe that Tethering (On-Line DRM) needs to be made illegal. It takes away a very basic consumer right - you have the right to play your purchase anytime of the day or night and whenever you want to, even years down the line, for a single player experience. I will never allow my gaming to be held hostage that way. I will never support any product that contains any form of Tethering. If I somehow end up with such a product then I will do everything in my power to remove it. If you want me to purchase your game then you will not use Tethering. If you want me not to break your product to remove Tethering then you will not use it. End of discussion. -

*high fives Albert* I first met him at the IGDA Picnic last year and he was kind enough to take a picture of me sitting inside Ernest Kline's DeLorean: And he also posed with me at a meet and greet after the first day of GDC Online 2012 last October: -
I went to a used computer shop today and encountered a "DJ Hero" turntable. And I got to thinking that it would be an interesting alternative for playing T2K. You wouldn't really be able to use the buttons on the turntable for firing and jumping because of where they're placed so they would have to be off to the side. But it would be kind of cool nevertheless. Maybe one of these days I'll get one just to hack up and see.

Midway. And the three games you mentioned are on the recently released compilation disc "Midway Arcade Origins". -
If you haven't already done so I recommend learning how to do Free McBoot softmod installs and use Open PS2 Loader to play games off hard drives (and use WinHiip for game installs). Won't have to worry as much about lasers. I would also recommend acquiring at least one good condition Slim to play games that won't work on hard drives. At some point I want to get another Network Adapter, do some sort of SATA mod, and use Solid State Drives for my PS2 games. That would be sweet.

Anybody who has ever played the "Dead or Alive" game series knows that sex has always been its selling point even though the fighting engine is solid, similar to the combo system for "Killer Instinct" and the Fatalities for "Mortal Kombat". In the DOA games, the first two I think, had settings for controlling how the breasts behaved. And let's not forget the spin-off games "DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball", "DOA: Xtreme 2", and "DOA: Paradise" where the female characters prance around in bikinis. And, of course, the famous Kasumi body pillow that you can only buy in Japan. Even though most of the other fighting games have overtly sexual female characters (Cammy ("Street Fighter"), Tyra and Ivy ("Soul Calibur")) DOA uses them as its main selling point. It's always been this way since the series was created. Although I appreciate the creator's desire to reduce some of the sexuality it shouldn't come as a surprise that the fans want the boobs to remain the way they are - it's the DOA way. To put it more bluntly, DOA without boobage is like "Mortal Kombat" without Fatalities.

"Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" plus a bit of "Uno" now and then.

Need a good game suggestion for my DSi...
RARusk replied to Unbeliever's topic in Modern Console Discussion
The only game I can think of that will keep you busy for awhile is "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars". But it is usually more than $20 new and I don't know if you keen to playing a Mature rated title on the DSi.
