  1. This is a bit of a surprise as I did not see this coming. However, I am going to wait and see how easy it is to install your own collection to this thing before going after this myself. Another question is does this mean that they will try to do this for the PS2 at some point? That would be a Day One buy for me if that happens.
  2. Until somebody decides to make the Kaeliko Kaemeleon.....
  3. PAX South panel window is now open and I will be talking to Matt before submission.
  4. If you can track one down I recommend the Monster Cable set. They are clearly the better built of all of the Nintendo S-Video cables and gives the best picture.
  5. Wouldn't it be better to offer an Atari 2600 themed case for the Raspberry Pi so you can create your own VCS using Stella? Probably better than what these guys are trying to do.
  6. I went to the Game Over Classic Gaming Expo in Austin today and was surprised to find that eon, one of the companies making GC HDMI adapters, there with a booth and sponsoring gaming contests. They had plenty of their new adapter and I badly wanted one. However, I had to pass because I don't play with my GC enough to justify paying $120 for it at this time (however, it is more expensive elsewhere). Still, I had a chance to see it in action and I am impressed with it.
  7. Original Tempest arcade game used an optical encoder - no detents.
  8. What does the coil in the Jag do anyway other than make noise that is?
  9. Guess that answers my question. So, barring finding the right caps, what would be the best material to put on a coil to stop or greatly reduce noise without reducing its functionality? I've heard glue or hot glue but maybe there might be other things to use.
  10. Another angle to this is to find a coil that doesn't make noise regardless of caps but I don't know if such a thing exists.
  11. I have a bit of the hissing noise with mine as well. Is it possible to note the specific capacitor that kills the noise so that others can perform this mod for their units? Apparently, according to Crossbow, it may be a Panasonic. Also, is it possible to find out what that cap is made from? Is it a metal film type for example - even if you have several caps that all look the same they may be made of different materials and that may be the key to solve the noise problem. If we know what this Panasonic cap is made out of then you can go get that specific type of cap regardless of manufacturer - just in case Panasonic doesn't make this type of cap anymore.
  12. Depending on the emulation quality and your modding skills why not take the unit apart and place the board inside the joystick? An interesting thought.
  13. If you plan to do any softmodding, and I recommend it to get the most out of the PSP, you definitely should get a Micro SD card and an adapter.
  14. Have you considered getting a rubber duck? From what I read programmers, when they get stuck on something, talk to the duck explaining the situation and somehow they come up with the solution while doing so. Won't hurt to try.
  15. For me the PSP-3000 is the better unit. I had a PSP-1000 to start but I broke the case and the analog nub would no longer work due to very bad design. The good news is that you can use the larger 1000 battery unit with the 3000 but you will need a different battery lid to accommodate (using the larger battery means more battery life). Got a MicroSD to Memory Stick Duo adapter and a 32GB card plus the PRO 660 softmod. Very easy to do and I have some emulators plus my entire PSP collection on it. Really, really nice handheld. Would like to do the same to the Vita but I don't know if they managed to totally jailbreak that thing to hell yet.
  16. You don't have to take out the card - you can simply hook up the PSP to a computer with the USB plug on the top and access the card that way. I just may get a 64GB card and try to use it. If it don't work I can use it for something else.
  17. I have a similar adapter and it works fine with a single 32GB card. I may upgrade to 64GB at some point but not right now. I can't see why it can't do 128 or higher.
  18. Talked to Matt again at another small con in town and he wants to try a live LP using Godzilla: Save the Earth (Xbox) for next year. I have some mixed feelings about that since I've never done one and I don't know how well one can be done in an hour. Also I don't know if PAX would be interested in it although I should look through the panel listings of the previous events to know for sure. I will at least submit the Godzilla in Gaming panel again as a backup plan. PAX knows that it was a success and that gives us a better than average chance of doing it again. Good thing the submission window doesn't open for another six months so I have plenty of time to think things through.
  19. For the price it is something I may get. However, I should point out that an internal mod may be the absolute best way to get the best video. The reason, based on my personal hacking experience on the console, is that the raw digital video signals, prior to being processed into the analog video signals through the main video chip, and regardless of game, are always going to be a minimum of 480p. This is odd because certain games, like Hitman 2, only do 480i so that's a head scratcher to me. So, to me, tapping into those signals is going to get the best results and, if done right, you can still use the original AV port for the other signals (actually you need to use it anyway because it sets the video chip and if you leave it open the console probably won't run). As for Enter the Matrix, that glitch is probably the game because it had to be rushed out to make a specific deadline to coincide with the release of The Matrix Reloaded because it explained certain things that happens in the movie and was meant to be played shortly after you saw it. It also included some teaser footage of The Matrix Revolutions which was another reason to release it at a specific timeframe. A nice experiment but the game was a disappointment.
  20. My feeling is that Nolan will eventually receive this award - but not this year - probably next year. This will give plenty of time for his defenders to have their say and put his past and present conduct in proper context. Hopefully, by then things will have quieted down a bit, for the snowflakes to be melted away, and for Wu to be discredited enough to render her irrelevant. And if any leftover snowflakes try to put a damper on things GDC should have enough proper information on Nolan to tell them to go fuck off.
  21. My entire imgur album from PAX South is up and here is a sampling:
  22. These are some of Matt's pictures as I haven't uploaded mine yet:
  23. Today was the big day. The room we were in is one of the smaller rooms but no means small. As the both of us sat there on the stage waiting for the door to open we were wondering how many would show up. We ended up with somewhere between 85 to 90% full. We were stunned. Didn't realize how many G-Fans would be at the con. I got things started and Matt would chime in and play off of me and vice versa. We managed to get to the last game just before time ran out. At the end we were given a rousing ovation by the crowd. Amazing. Went much better than I imagined.
