  1. I don't know if these will be of any interest, but here are some simple routines I have written in Kyan.

I have listed the include files with there routines:

    BREAK.I

    Procedure DisableBrk(v : boolean)

This procedure disables, or enables the Break key.

v = TRUE -> Disable the Break key

v = FALSE -> Enable the Break key

    CURSOR.I

    Procedure Cursor(v : boolean)

This procedure disables, or enables the cursor in text mode.

    v = TRUE -> Show the cursor

    v = FALSE -> Hide the cusor

    GET.I (XL/XE only)

    Function CGetC : char

Waits for a key press and returns the character of the key

    Function CGetS(x, y, l : integer; var s : string) : boolean

Allows the user to input a string up to l characters, at screen position x, y.

If the user presses ESCAPE, then the function returns FALSE, otherwise the function returns TRUE and the input string is in the variable s.

    Function CGetI(x, y, m : integer; var o : integer) : boolean

This works the same as CGetS, however, it is for inputting integer values up to the maximum value of m.

  2. I just got a copy of the book "Zap! The Rise and Fall of Atari", by Scott Cohen.

    Should be a good read.

Have you read this book yet? I'm thinking about getting it, but I read several negative reviews on Amazon. It is accurate?

I have read this. While I can't comment on its accuracy, it did make a good read.

Thanks, for reply. I just read an interesting review on this book in Antic 12/83 issue. So this means this book was originally published 83-84. This reviewer doubted Mr. Cohen knowledge of computers and felt he didn't really care about what he was saying about Atari. What do you think? Did he make it sound like he had first hand knowledge of early 80's computers and Atari?

The book was written pre-Tramiel era, so it is missing the time period that I first encountered Atari. There is also a lack of technical information, but I read this book as more of an insight into the business side of the corporation.

If I remember correctly, Mr Cohen is 'candid' about atari, and appears to be trying to be honest regarding his views of the company.

To be blunt, I wouldn't pay too much for this book (I don't think I did). It's an interesting read, but not an essential part of my collection.

  3. Thanks for the welcome back guys. It's good to be here AND I'll be in the chat tonight.

I mentioned some amazing news that I would divulge after reading my emails. Well, I have just worked my way through all 344 emails, most of which were junk, so here it is.

Or should I say "here he is"

On Saturday, I became one of the youngest grandfathers I know. Tom was born at 4:07pm, weighing in a a very healthy 9lb 3oz

  4. Hi people,

    Missed y'all :D

After moving house and finally geting my ADSL setup in the new place (would have been sooner, but a certain company that shall remain nameless kept screwing up, let's just say that they are a Telecoms company that is British), I am back on line.

So once I have read through the literally hundreds of emails that have just been dumped into my inbox, I'll be back for chatting. I also have some amazing news, but I'll let you know about that later ;)

  5. I was also a Saturn owner, although not until after the Dreamcast came out.

The most obscure system I owned, and still do own, is probably the Oric Atmos. I was a vastly underrated machine, comparable to the Spectrum, but suffered from last of support and advertising, as well as arriving on the scene after Sinclair had pretty much sown up the UK market.

  6. I have zipped up the Oric-1 manual for you. It's still 2.8MB, but small enough for dial-up.

I don't believe there are many changes between the Oric-1 and the Atmos regarding BASIC. Euphoric works as an Atmos by default.

  7. I see you've joined the Oric forum as well now. I shall endeavour to answer as many of your questions there, however, I will not have an internet connection for about a week or two from the start of next week.

  8. Over 3,000 unique IP addresses have now accessed my site. :o Thanks to everyone who has visited. Seeing these numbers grow over the months has encouraged me to continue with the blog and project logs.

I hope you all have as much fun reading them as I do writing them.

  9. Well guys... I will not be making the chat tomorrow... or next Wednesday!! I will be on VACATION!! woohooo go me!! I will miss y'all!!

    *Hugs and Kisses*

    <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

I hope you have a great time Jell.

I may not be able to make tomorrow's chat either. I'm finally in the middle of moving house :D

Signed the papers yesterday and am decorating it before I move in. This also means that I probably won't have my net connection next week, so I doubt if I will make it next week either.

  10. I cannot get OSDK to work. From the installation read-me
If you install the OSDK on your drive C:\ in a folder OSDK, you simply have to add the following line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:

And yet, I can't find a file called autoexec.bat in the OSDK folder.

the autoexec.bat should be in the root dircetory on your C: drive. It is an initialisation file for DOS/Windows. If it's not there, you can create it

  11. I'm interested in learning how to program games for the Oric after seeing all those nifty games in previous mini-game compos. Is there like a site that teaches how to? What do I need in order to program for it, and who here knows how to?

    -Chris

Best place to get help and information is Defence-Force. It's not as active as AA, but there are people there still coding for the Oric.

For development, I would recommend the Oric Software Development Kit. It's a C cross compiler called LCC-65, I believe is is based on CC65, but is specifically for Oric.

  12. I meant to say, I'm now also on a mission to finish the Finance Program (although it will probably be completed after the move) as I have some game ideas I want to explore. most of the games will hopefully be written for Atari, Spectrum, PC and Mac. I may also do ports for Oric as well.

  13. Thanks Gury, it's nice to know that people read it, although I would write them anyway because I enjoy looking into the old games, especially when I find one I hadn't played before (e.g. Universal Hero).

I've been looking at a number of Mastertronic titles recently, so expect to see some more entries about them, also Captain Crumble (Crumble's Crisis and Space Lobsters) has just gained my attention, so I may do something about him too.

And good luck with moving to new house.

Thanks, I'm going to need it. I've started packing stuff up, so I am working totally with emulators at the moment. Trouble is, I've just realised, I don't have enough boxes :(
