The other advantage of using Sio2PC is that you preserve your original disks. I try to avoid using my originals once I have made an ATR from them.

I have temporarily replaced the chat software on my site with a java/php solution. It's not ideal, and it won't be staying, but it should allow people to access the Wednesday chat without problems for now.

Thanks kenfused, that's what I was after

-
What I'm really after are the controls for the 800/XL/XE version.
I can't even remember how to start the engines

-
I remember playing Activisions Space Shuttle: A Journey Into Space back in the 80's. Unfortunately, I can no longer find the manual. Does anyone have a copy they could scan and mail me?
-
I have the cartridge version of Rescue on Fractalus, but it doesn't mention whether it's PAL or NTSC. I used to have the tape version back in the 80's and I don't recall anything about PAL on that either.

Well, I'm going to be laying off eBay for a while. I've spent way too much on there recently (according to my wife

Thanks for the link to the CIO libraries Cybernoid.
I have created a format routine based on the open function, and it works.
I am also in the process of creating a Get_Dir function and a File_Exists function. With these libraries, my program should be a lot more professional and robust.
And thanks to Carsten for writing them

Just wanted to say a big Thank You to Deathtrappomegranate for sending me a copy of AdventureWriter. It arrived this morning (my postie actually braved the snow on my mountain) and is fantastic. the manual is better than the one supplied with the Spectrum version of The Quill!!

Hey I actually made it to chat but once again I was having problems with the chatroom and my thinking is that if you get rid of the "Latency Box" that is if you don't actually need it then the problems will be solved.
If not I may have to stop going to chat as it is almost impossible to type or enter any text, I have to use both the embedded and full screen versions of the chatroom at the same time.
I'll have a look before next Wednesday. I may just replace the chat software with something else, this one seems to cause intermittent problems.

Afraid I won't be in the chat tonight, taking Sally out for a drink.
But please, feel free to use the chat room, help yourselves to drinks and snacks, but please tidy up before you leave.

My hit counter has just counted the one thousandth unique IP address visiting my site

-
Thanks for the support guys, I have nearly had 1,000 unique visitors to the site since I set it up!!!!
I have also now got the final seven issues of Atari User, so I will be adding cover scans for them, and I will soon be completing the contents listings for all the magazines.
Oh, and I changed the title of this thread as it's not really a new site anymore.

I started out on a ZX Spectrum. I then moved on to an Oric Atmos, followed by my trusty 800XL. I still program on all three today.
IMHO Sinclair Basic was the best of the three, however, the A8 was the more versatile if you were willing to put in the effort..

Just thought I'd give a quick update here.
I have added some new books and a couple of new software packages.
I have also updated the project log for the Finance project. I will be posting useful functions in this section as I write them, hopefully they might be of use to some people.
I'll certainly be following your progress and nicking some ideas
. I'm writing a similar db app in Quick to store my Atari collection and learn about coding for the Atari.I've just written some DOS routines (NOTE, POINT etc.) and some user input routines.
Keep up the good work on your site

I also have Quick, but I haven't had much of a look at it yet. Been concentrating on Kyan for A8 and Forth for other 8bit platforms.

And now, please back to topic.
Yep, good point. This is not really the place for the good old Mac vs Windows argument

Btw: What is the "modern" Mac anyway?
It's nothing but a slow PC, that runs a bit faster when using Vista instead of OsX.

But what is Vista anyway?
It's nothing but an imitation of MacOSX Tiger.

Seriously, I have a G5 iMac, so no Vista on here for me, and it's faster than my wife's Core Duo PC.

Vista schmista. If you want the real deal just go buy a Mac.
Did that a year ago. Best move I made regarding modern computers.
No, if you want the real deal try the real thing!
Definitely the best answer though

SuperArchiver is a hardware upgrade to the 1050 disk driver.
SuperArchiver software v1 can copy Single Sided protected disk while software v2 can copy enhanced density protected disks.
The BitWrite is an additional hardware addon to the Super Archiver hardware to allow copy Synapse special tracks..
What software you are tying to copy?
I'm trying to copy Cut & Paste so that I can share it with the community and also use backup disks rather than the originals.

Tried Chipmunk and Black Patch....failed
Can't find a copy of Super Archiver anywhere yet.
I'm trying to get a copy of Cut & Paste done for my site.
I'll try MyDos, see if that will do it.

They're all like that.
That's why the 8-bitter has the LMARGIN feature, with 2 characters left blank for the text editor.
Older TVs typically weren't very accurate with what area they displayed, so it was almost always a case of the first and/or second column being offscreen. Modern TVs tend to be a lot better and often you'll get a full display.
Back in the 80's, my tv displayed the atari screen dead centre. I only seem to have the problem now with modern tv's
-
Does anyone know of an A8 disk copier that will copy just about anything?
-
Thanks to jdh, I've now got a scart lead which has improved the picture greatly
there's still some very slight ghosting and some very faint lines going down the screen but it's not really that noticable. Now, the screen isn't centered and seems to be over to the left (it was like this with the ariel) and I'm just wondering if it's supposed to be like that or not.
Thanks.
I think it's something to do with modern PAL tv's. All my 8 bits display to the left of the screen these days. If it was just one, I'd blame the computer, but as it's all 4, I'd have to conclude its the tv. I tried it out on another tv and I got the same result.

For tonights chat, I have installed a java based system. This should solve the problems some people have been experiencing. It's not an ideal solution, and it is only temporary.
Slight change in logging in procedure:
When you go to the chatrrom page and the java applet has loaded, click on the login button and then enter your user name. Unfortunately, this software does not support smilies, nor any fancy features.
As usual, I recommend the latest version of your browser (note: Safari users may have some minor problems)
