I'd second the "support Steve" cause. APE is a great product and IMHO opinion the Atari 8 bit world would be poorer without it. I use it along with one of Steve's interfaces all the time. Now if only he would port it to OS X ...Did you know about SIO2OSX ?
SIO2OSX totally rocks. I use it with a Sweex Serial2USB adapter on my iMac.
I second the comments people have made about the main reason to register APE, or SIO2OSX, is so that the guys behind the software can continue developing these products for us. Without their input, I think the whole A8 scene would be very different.

My login details aren't recognised any moreSorry about that. The original database I had of login details is no longer there. The chatroom software on there right now is the unmodified software supplied from Hot-Things. I will be customising it soon, but I won't be hacking the code this time as I seemed to make it unstable the last time I tried.

it seems penguin changed his site as well as the chat room, and he didn't say anything about it.I got bored, so I decided it was time for a change.

Nice clone, good find.

Fantastic game guys. I'm still amazed at the quality of games we have coming to the A8. Keep it up

Thanks, that's exactly what I was after. It was the 'dialling out' I couldn't figure out

I don't know if this has been asked before, but I thought I would ask anyway.
Forget the "why would you want to do that?" question...but is it possible to use the emulator Atari800MacX as a terminal emulator for my Mac? If so, how is it done?
-
Oh WOW!!! I want one. That is amazing.

It's very easy to install the Dark Alex M3 firmware. No need to use exploits in software to install it now with the new methods. Definately worth using a custom firmware. Dark Alex allows you to soft swap firmware also if you are worried.Does anyone know if the latest version of PSPAtari will work with a standard PSP with 3.9 firmware? If so, how do I get it to work?
Thanks, I'll have a look at that. As I have only just got the PSP, I don't really want to start messing too much with the firmware, unless I know I can restore it back to the Sony 3.9.
BTW: I have a fat PSP.

I'll probably never collect all the games for any particular system. I only get the games that I want to play, so a lot of the 'not-so-good' titles get left out of my collection.

Other than this forum at good old AA is there a popular site dedicated to the Atari computer series? Something like the lemon64 site for the Commodore? I'm interested in getting into collecting 8-bit games on disks and am looking for a good trader forum. The AAmarketplace is good but very cartridge centric.
Have a look at Atarimania

I'd like to see Shadowfire and Enigma Force converted.

Should have said, I also play Flower Mania quite a bit.
i tend to fire up an emulator for casual gaming these days. I seem to find that most of the 'modern' casual games have been done on A8 or spectrum at some point in the past.

I only have one reason:
I just wanna

Unfortunately the earlier Atari 8-bits weren't readily available in the UK and when Sinclair started to release machines at under £150, they pushed atari out of the UK market.
I think that by the time the XL range came over to the UK, Sinclair and Commodore had already dominated the 8-bit market.

I think the most modern 'casual' game I play these days is Yoomp! on my A8

I have every issue of Atari User. The cover scans are on my site http://www.krazypengwin.co.uk/atariuser.php

I have a factory standard 64K Pal 800XL. No plans to upgrade it, although I may get some form of IDE interface at some point, or perhaps Sio2SD
-
I never played the original. I only had limited access to a Vic-20. But this looks like good old "old school Jeff Minter fun"
Excellent work Heaven, and that title screen is brilliant.

Pierre, I should have said yesterday...Stuffit Expander will open RAR files.

It was only a year or so ago that I would wait with a certain amount of anticipation to the next EA game or the latest Capcom.
These days, I find myself looking out for the latest XXL conversion. You have really livened up the scene for me.
Afraid you can't take all the credit though
Yoomp!, Crownland and the up coming Lords of Midnight are also amazing. It's great to know that there is talent like this out there still being put to use on such a great machine.

Ross, I prefer original media too. Although I can only use emulation right now, I am still adding to my collection so that when the kids move out I can take over their bedrooms with MY toys
Rybags, I would put CD-RW before CD-R. I've never had a RW last long.
SIO2PC - Serial vs. USB (and APE)

This is the one I have: http://www.sweex.com/producten.php?sectie&...amp;artikel=291
However, I cannot seem to get the tape functions of SIO2OSX to work. It is probably something to do with the adapter, but as I only use disk images, it's not a problem for me.
I was lucky with this adapter, it was cheap, and the first one I tried. I do understand there can be soem other issues with other USB adapter chipsets, so it really is a case of 'try and see'.
