  1. I'm 33 and have a 7 year old daughter. She's a big video game fan in general, having played all the Nintendo systems from the NES up through the DS and Gamecube, plus a little bit of the 2600. With the graphics and realism of the new games, it's amazing to see what kind of effect the older games has on her...they're all about the fun and enjoyment and playing, which is really what kids should be experiencing. She'll just as soon play Super Mario 3 or Yoshi as she will Wind Waker or Mario Sunshine. So my question for those of you that have kids. Do your kids enjoy the old school games like the 2600, NES, etc? Or are they more inclined to go for the eye candy like the Gamecube, PS2, etc. John
  2. I was going to say, hands down, Baldur's Gate, but it was already mentioned by Mechanized. For reasons he stated, I can't really fault any of the programmers of the older games, as there were limitations and you could only do so much without detracting from the game play. But Baldur's Gate...ugh. I just finished that on Sunday, and boy, did I feel violated. *spoilers* First, the main boss is nothing more than a chick in armor. No demon, no Beholder, no other kick-ass, complex creature. Second, she took literally 20-25 seconds to beat. THAT'S IT!! THEN (it gets better), she drops to her knees, confesses the error of her ways, and tells the hero to proceed. The hero proceeds into a portal "far more dangerous than where he came from," and as shadow creatures approach him, the fucking game tells you to, essentially, tune into the next game to see what he's up against. And that's the end of the game (after the credits, of course). *end spoilers* Man, I was pissed. Pretty good game overall, though not exceptionally difficult (you were pretty much told what to do and where to go), but fuck that ending blew. I'm glad to hear for a fact that BG2's ending was equally bad, as I was about to buy it for the PC just to "continue" my old game. John
  3. Funny...I saw "Hudson" and immediately thought of Milon's Secret Castle. Great game, even though I was always terrible at it. Might be time to find another copy and see how badly I can do. John
  4. Anyone know of an uber-site such as this one that focuses on Nintendo collecting? I'd like to find one with a cart list, rarity guide, etc. Any help? John
  5. Best ending ever, in my opinion. That final blow literally made me gasp...powerful stuff. I've always loved the final of Super Metroid, when the confused Metroid saves Samus so she can finish off the Mother Brain. I thought the presentation of Metroid Prime was phenomenal (king of reminded me of the introduction of the Alien Queen in Aliens), but the creature itself wasn't as cool as I had hoped for. John
  6. Title says it all! I'm looking for a copy of Metroid for the NES with the yellow label and box, complete with at least the instructions. I'm also looking for any "Alien" related games for the Famicom or Super Famicom systems. Alien 3 and Alien Vs. Predator are the only two, I think. Please PM me here or e-mail the8thpassenger@hotmail.com if you can help. Thanks! John
  7. Actually, I just answered my own question. Guess I should have looked a little bit harder. [/img]
  8. I know there is a yellow-label variation on the original NES Metroid game, but did this yellow-labeled game come in a different box as the gray-labeled version, or is it the same gray box? If this does come in a yellow box, I'm looking for one. Thanks in advance for the help. John
  9. Super Metroid, Zelda, and Super Mario World are must haves. Aside from that, I have a really liking for Kirby's Avalanche. John
  10. Pretty weak - 15,840 BTW, I noticed my points in the standings for my Yars Revenge score have disappeared again. I should have 17 total, not 5. John
  11. Hey, I just noticed that my points for last week's Yars Revenge score wasn't tallied into my running total. I still have only 5 points, even though I maxed Yars last week at 999,999. John
  12. 1) Passing up a 95% functional stand-up Space Invaders at a garage sale for $100 back in 1998. 2) Selling my NES collection (300+ games) and 2600 collection (200+ games) once I discovered emulators (around 3 years ago). I'm working on recovering from #2 by getting back into collecting, but #1 will always be that thorn in my side. John
  13. Well, this game is pretty rockin'...never played it before. My first score is 4,184.
