  1. I have a couple of items I want to get rid of and though I'd offer them here first before ebay.

Just PM me an offer if you are interested in any of these items.

Shipping will be exact cost to your zip from 19520.

    Atari 2600 Heavy Sixer

This is a working Atari 2600 Heavy Sixer with the following flaws:

    1. The reset and start switches have bad springs. They work but have to manually be pushed back instead of them automatically springing back.

    2. The picture is a little fuzzy. I'm guessing it is because of a bad RF cable. The one in the system is only about 12 inches long and does not look like the standard Atari cable.

Other than that it works and plays fine.

    Modded Atari 800 XL

This is a working Atari 800 XL that has some sort of video modification (see pics). When you flip the switch, the screen color changes and the video is modded. The keyboard works, but it looks like one of the pins inside the unit is bent, I had to hold the connection left to get the QWER keys to work, all other keys worked fine. I'm offering this since it has been modded, thought someone would be interested in it.

    Ten Atari 7800 PAL Games

I accidentally bought these without realizing they were PAL. They all are in great shape, but I cannot test them since I do not have a PAL machine.

    That's it for now.

    Thanks

  2. Looking for an good working Atari 7800 with PS, RF cord, and two working controllers. If anyone has one they want to sell, please PM me the price you want and shipping cost to 19520.

If you are a dealer with any cool modded ones, PM me too.

My 3 year old really loves Atari and I have alot of 7800 games with no system. :(

    Thanks!

  3. I've been looking at the following Z80 IDE as a potential for programming the ColecoVision.  Seems to do most of what you're asking for but only covers the CPU.  At least it clearly shows the values of the registers as the code executes.

Bit off-topic as not suitable for the Atari 2600 so sorry.

I clicked on that link and my proxy here at work reported this:

  4. And don't forget the 320 pixel modes.  Not a lot of colors (320B gives you a total of seven, and another 320 mode gives you a total of nine, but you can only use three+background at most in any object), and lots more of a DMA hit, but it's got nice square pixels.

In essance you are saying the 7800 should be able to run in a 320x200 mode with a palette selection of seven or nine colors?

  5. Ok, so the thing still doesn't work.

Anyone want the damn thing or know how to repair it? :P

    How did you test it?

Put any tape in there, press play, then type CLOAD from a basic prompt. It will beep, hit return. If it works, the tape will start spinning. If your "homemade" belts are not strong enough, you may not see it spin. Take the case apart and watch the gears if need be. I'm assuming you know to plug the SIO cable into the computer also. ;)

I've had many that looked bad, but just needed new belts.

  6. Maybe you can explain this to me regarding video resolution.

Why does the NES have a better resolution than the Atari's? From the Atari docs I've read, they seem to imply that you cannot exceed the 160x192 resolutions. But the NES has a 256x224 resolution--much better.

After reading this, I changed my DLL to use 224 lines (14 zones, 16 high), and it worked in the emulator, but I don't have an MMC card for my CC2 yet, so I could not test it on real hardware.

How does the NES pull this off where Atari cannot?

  7. This is also where "Holey DMA" comes into play.  In the above example the top scanline of the first zone will draw the graphics stored at $e100 + 15*256 = $f000.  In the DLL there are two flags, one which treats odd 4K segment of ROM as full of zeros.  So when that flag is set, graphics reads from $dxxx and $fxxx will be treated as zeros.  Thus we can store code and non-graphics data in those segments.

Wow, I've been trying to understand Holey DMA and almost gave up. This post cleared it right up. Thanks for this. Damn, it's really simple.

  8. If you are looking on ebay, just do a search for the keywords: atari 7800 system

Use the advanced search feature and check the completed items box.

The results will show you what recent 7800s went for. You will have to read the description to see what kind of condition they were in though.

That's how I look for what an item goes for when buying on ebay.

  9. I was at an antique store a few monts back and caught a glimpse of some Atari 2600 games. They were just commons, but I asked the lady anyway what she wanted for them.

Her reply: "Well, I know Pac-Man is very rare, so I have to sell that one for $25. You can have Combat and the others for $10 each."

I laughed in her face so loud I was almost embarrased.

She was dead serious though and could not understand what was so funny. I asked her how she came up with those prices and she admitedly said someone else told her and that she has no clue about these items.

When I mentioned their real value, he jaw almost hit the floor. I'm assuming she got ripped off royally.

  10. spacecadet has some great points. I almost always look at auctions the way he just described--unless I am just looking for parts.

For example, there is someone selling vintage items that claims the boxes were never opened--because he was told so from his friend. I emailed him asking if they were never opened from 1980 or never opened from when his friend bought them--whenever that was. He didn't know. Then I asked him to open them and take some pics so I could attempt to verify his claim. He was floored and thought opening them would lower their value. I told him, actually, not verifying they are new is loweing their value because 1. they are not shrinkwrapped, and 2. they are not tested working.

I'm still waiting. I won't bid until I see for myself if the items are acutally new like he claims and work.
