  1. The promised arcade-perfect conversion of Atari's STUN Runner for home consoles has been cancelled by Midway. That's right. They announce it many moons ago, wait for all the anticipation to build in the hearts of fans, and then rip that heart out. http://www.xbox365.com/news/news.cgi/artic...lulanOJFSdZ5848 Damn you Midway! Damn you to hell...
  2. I've done back-to-back comparisons between Component Video and S-Video on a non-HDTV flatscreen, and to cut a long story short Component Video was far better and definitely worth switching your system to.
  3. I'd kill for an Xbox port of Tachyon, with enhanced graphics and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound... Since modern console controllers actually have enough functions for these kind of games. And playing them on a big screen is really cinematic.
  4. I forgot to mention one extremely important (albeit old) space sim that deserves every fan's attention: Privateer 2: The Darkening omg that game. It took many years until Tachyon: The Fringe to really hit that mark again.
  5. I would have to be absolutely insane not to buy Midway Arcade Treasures 2, since STUN Runner is one of my personal favorite games of all time, and this is the first time in history a perfect home conversion may be possible. (Although my Atari Lynx version will always be dear to my heart ) However if they screw up the STUN Runner conversion then I will be -> And even though I have a lot of the other games running fine in Mame, I am committed to supporting companies that commercially release classic games, and keep awareness and appreciation of classic gaming alive. Even if their corporate PR people are morons.
  6. The latest version of PSO is actually coming out for the Gamecube in North America next month. "Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II PLUS" - contains all content from both PSO Episode I and PSO Episode I ver.2 - also contains PSO Episode II - features split-screen battles for up to four players on the same console for added offline gameplay - additionally contains quests and mini-games from PSO I & II that were previously only available online - also includes new Episode II offline quests: Seat of the Heart, The East Tower, and The West Tower - five multiplayer Challenge Mode stages - new items and game fixes - two GBA mini-games: "NiGHTS Score Attack" and "Puyo Pop" - ships for Gamecube in North America on 08/24/2004 for $29.99
  7. PO'ed was alright for its time when the PSX didn't have many FPS games. But these days I personally wouldn't invest the time into playing through it when there are a million more refined FPS games out on every system...
  8. This is not the first time I've heard of people finding arcade machines by the curb on the street. I know someone who found a Street Fighter 2 arcade machine like that, and took it home.
  9. Don't forget to enable the bonus graphics options SHOW ME MY WEAPONS JUGGY DANCE SQUAD are the passphrases for them.
  10. I don't remember about analog support for the first one. But Colony Wars 3 does support the left analog stick on a Dual Shock, as well as vibration feedback for afterburners, etc. You still use L2/R2 to roll however. The missions in Colony Wars 3 are much more eclectic than the traditional armada battles of the first game. You could be asked to do anything in Colony Wars 3 from towing refugee ships to safety from an unstable star, or fighting in weird alternate dimensional space with asteroids fading in and out around you (I think). Sometimes the backstory of the missions are not really explained properly and you have no sense of why you really are doing what you're doing. But the game does offer quite a lot to enjoy, it's just uneven because it throws everything including the kitchen sink in order to add diversity to its missions. I prefer the polished Babylon 5 / Star Wars epic missions of the first game, but I can see why they wanted to do something different in Red Sun.
  11. The world has become a dark, dark place. Oh well, at least he's still employed. Back on the matter at hand... Something that has not been mentioned yet: In this genre Sony's wonderful Colony Wars deserves to be played. Spanning several cdroms, with an epic mythology and backstory, a sweeping musical score, great graphics (for Playstation hardware anyway), and several endings to be seen. There were also two sequels made, CW2: Vengeance (which I didn't like much and probably best left alone) and CW3: Red Sun (which is pretty good, but still doesn't reach the heights of the original). Both sequels have some ground missions though, so the original is also purer since it is 100% space combat. If you happy to play a game that takes place completely inside a planetary atmosphere, then definitely give Yager a spin on either Xbox or PC. It carries the Colony Wars spirit well, albeit not into outer space, with jaw dropping modern visuals.
  12. The game was built around a PC engine and the Xbox version is the most faithful in detail to that AFAIK.

  14. These are not bootlegs. They are just building games into those new generation Master Systems as a bonus feature. TecToy is an official publisher for Sega stuff AFAIK http://games.ign.com/objects/684/684219.html So anyone found an online shop that accepts international orders? I think I saw a few links on the TecToy page to some online stores in Brazil.
  15. My TV can accept PAL signals. Quite a lot of TVs can... And "it gets dirty too easy" isn't a legit reason for not buying such cool gear. Sorry
  16. Pretty awesome http://asp.tectoy.com.br/videogame/index.asp Brand new Genesis, Master System, Dreamcast, Saturn consoles. I think some of them have games built-in to the system too. Anyone know how best to order these internationally?
  17. Quite a few people diss Pit Fighter because it has jerky animation and limited moves, but I quite like the gameplay. It's simple and satisfying, and also has crowd-pleasing audio sort of like Smash TV. And it's challenging to see how far you can get on one credit. (When fighting carefully consider your timing and distance of your strikes) Also the three characters play quite differently from each other, which adds some nice variety. I think the black belt karate character is the coolest I played the Genesis and Lynx versions quite a bit, but they were not as cool as the arcade!
  18. Which version of Sinistar should I play MAMEoX Sinistar for Xbox? or Midway Arcade Treasures Sinistar for Xbox? I have both but am not familiar enough with the original to tell them apart. Both support multi-directional control via the analog stick. I've heard the MAT version has some glitches like the starfield warping in the wrong direction...
  19. You have to turn VSynch ON to reduce that effect (the effect is called screen tearing). Generally it is more CPU intensive with VSynch ON, so they often leave the defaults to OFF to keep it playable on older systems.
  20. I wish this board had an edit feature... anyway, after the limited success with Space Gun above, I've tried Terminator 2: The Arcade Game and it failed completely. The gun refuses to work at all, and setup is still a nightmare (with plugging/unplugging controller cables galore and randomly cycling menus resulting) so I'd say Mameox is simply not ready for hardcore lightgun use at this time.
  21. Thunder Force AC Wonderboy In Monster Land King Of The Monsters Nam 1975 Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition Double Dragon Wardner Mortal Kombat ...
  22. Well, not really knowing whether this will work or not, I went out an bought an Xbox lightgun today for emulation. The setup I am using is a flatscreen Sony Wega + Xbox + third party Xbox lightgun (designed for the Xbox game House Of The Dead III) It seems that some emulators DO support this configuration. So far I have tried a NES emulator for xbox called FCEUltra and it detected the lightgun perfectly and the calibration screen is accurate. However the big one -- that is MAMEoX -- only had "partial" support for lightguns at the moment. I finally figured out what this means. It is a bitch to configure, and then it isn't very accurate... The end result I was able to achieve is that I can run Taito's Space Gun (the lightgun game I am most interested in emulating) at a semi-playable state. That is, I can wildly swing the gun around to move the targetting cursor on-screen. Thankfully Space Gun is less about accuracy and more about alien carnage, so I can actually play it reasonably OK like this as long as I put lots of quarters into the machine Hey, at the end of the day I've got Space Gun running in my living room on my Wega, even if the aiming is wacky that's still pretty cool! Hopefully later revisions of MAMEoX for Xbox will feature a proper Xbox lightgun codebase like the NES emu FCEUltra seems to already have. Well, hope this is of interest to someone...
  23. I'm not talking about the classic games you played a few times, but the ones you used to always come back to in the Arcades, or the cartridges that you always looked forward to playing at home each week. For me there were a lot of games like that. If I saw a machine, for example Galaga, Twin Cobra, Xain'd Sleena, Rastan, Outrun, Wardner, Wonderboy In Monster Land, STUN Runner, Double Dragon, or vector Star Wars, I would *HAVE* to put some quarters into it no matter what else I was doing. Even later there were lots of newer games in arcades with a similar effect on me, like Space Gun, Samurai Shodown, etc. Seems like certain players are just destined to "connect" with certain games. What are yours?
  24. Yes that's what I happened I think. I had the original japanese cart and it didn't have any copyright notices either.
