  1. All Karate Champs were dual stick models, although the lesser known 1 player version only had one set of dual sticks instead of two sets of dual sticks for the more common 2 player version. Yes I'm well aware of these facts. I meant the one in the photo is the dual-dual-stick model.
  2. I always tried to be stylish. In the 80s I used "RAD" In the 90s I used "ICE" Both expressions of cool that seemed to suit the times. Now I use "VAC" based on another forum alias.
  3. Cool Flack, very cool. But can you knock out the bull? It took me a long time to figure it out. (lots of quarters) That machine looks lonely though. It's a dual-stick model too, meant for competition play. You should bring it over to your local karate dojo on weekends or something and set it for Freeplay. If they've seen Bloodsport they should be right into it...
  4. A lot of good beat-em-ups over the years... Streets Of Rage 2 Vendetta (arcade) The Ninja Warriors (arcade) Cadillacs And Dinosaurs Knights Of The Round Golden Axe 1,2,3 Alien Storm Black Belt (sms) Vigilante (arcade & pc engine) TMNT (arcade & snes) Shadow Warriors (arcade) Aliens vs. Predator (arcade) Double Dragon 1,2 (but 3 sucked bigtime, add coins to buy weapons? gimme a break) Not listing 1-on-1 fighting games of course...
  5. No it's not the same for the MD/Genesis. Games made after a certain year have built-in region protection which will stop imports. For example the U.S. version of Shinobi 3: Return Of The Ninja Master won't run on your PAL Megadrive. You will just get a warning screen.
  6. I think there was some typoing going on here. I blame the lack of an edit feature... "forcing you to use dual-analog sticks like an FPS instead a normal analog flight control just killed the game." should have read "forcing you to use dual-analog sticks like an FPS instead of a normal analog flight control just killed the game." Basically, I personally *wanted* a more faithful flight control to match the lavish visuals. p.s. my avatar is from the cabinet of a great, classic 2d shoot-em-up. They don't make cabs like they used to...
  7. I returned this game to the store after 2 days of play. The lack of proper flight control was one of the main reasons, forcing you to use dual-analog sticks like an FPS instead a normal analog flight control just killed the game.
  8. Has anyone successfully gotten Mameox (latest xbox port of Mame) to run its selection of emulated light gun arcades, like Space Gun, via an Xbox light gun on their TV? The docs say there is partial support... and I don't want to buy an Xbox gun only to find out it won't work...
  9. That "alien pinball" for the pc engine console was called Alien Crush, and is not directly related to the movies it is just inspired by it. However that's reminded me that there actually is an officially licensed Aliens video pinball game for Windows PCs, that hasn't been mentioned in this topic yet. It is called Sci-Fi Pinball by Fox Interactive. It uses audio samples and table artwork from the film, it is definitely worth picking up. As a side-note, I came across photos of a custom-upgraded arcade cabinet for the official Aliens arcade game from the 80s, check it out! Now that's cool! http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamesg22/cabs...conversion1.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamesg22/cabs...conversion2.jpg And have we mentioned the ultimate piece of Alien-licensed gaming hardware yet? Sega's awesome Alien 3: The Gun http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter...=A&game_id=6849
  10. That's amazing, I was a big SMS fan but never dreamed that Virtua Fighter was released for it. Does someone have a link to a site with good info about this version?
  11. This is a fun thing to try. Ranking your Top 20 videogames from combined classic and modern eras. There are literally thousands to choose from. It's really difficult! My personal list (draft)... Top 20 1. Panzer Dragoon Orta (2002, Xbox - Sega) 2. Thunder Force V (1997, Saturn - Technosoft) 3. Galaga (1981, arcade - Namco) 4. Halo (2001, Xbox - Bungie) 5. Knights Of The Old Republic (2003, Xbox - Bioware) 6. Star Wars (1983, arcade - Atari) 7. Quake (1996, PC - id software) 8. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (2002, PS2 - Konami) 9. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution (2003, PS2 - Sega) 10. Psyvariar: Complete Edition (2002, PS2 - Success) 11. Sonic Mega Collection (2002, Gamecube - Sega) 12. Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (2004, Gamecube - Konami) 13. Deus Ex: The Conspiracy (2000/2002, PC/PS2 - Ion Storm) 14. Perfect Dark (2000, N64 - Rare) 15. 12. Yeah I don't think it is possible unless they were using EXE self extract.
  13. It is also 100% compatible with Component Video.
  14. It's a sequel, not a prequel. The movie is essentially the sequel to Pitch Black, and the game is the prequel to Pitch Black.
  15. As a big GunCon 2 fan, I'll group the major ps2 games into "Best" and "Rest"... BEST (all of these are superb): Vampire Night Time Crisis 2 Time Crisis 3 Resident Evil: Dead Aim Crisis Zone (coming soon) REST (these range from decent to poor): Endgame Ninja Assault Gun Survivor 2: Code Veronica X Dino Stalker The GunCon 2 is the greatest home lightgun ever... an absolutely beautiful piece of gaming hardware. It is good to note that the GunCon 2 comes in several different colors depending on what part of the world you import it from and what bundle you buy it in. I believe the colors available are Orange, Gray, Midnight Blue, and Pitch Black.
  16. Absolutely. It remains one of my favorites to this day. I loved the arcade variant International Karate Champ, with two pairs of sticks for 2-player competition play. What an awesome game. The game cut across all ages of karate fans too, since my father has been a fan of it as long as I have. It also features in the movie Bloodsport! In my opinion the much hyped IK+ on Amiga et al was never as good as the original Karate Champs since they removed the great dual stick control scheme out of necessity, and adding a third player ruined the tactical aspect of the original for hardcore fans. Although IK+ was fun in its own way.
  17. Hi Nice forum. I'm trying to figure out how to stop people's imbedded images from autoloading inside topics here. I tried turning both BBCode and HTML to OFF in my forum profile settings but it didn't seem to work. Any help on the subject? Thanks...
  18. I honestly can't fathom that any classic gamer who likes shooters could find complaints about the almighty Internal Section. It is easily among my top 50 games of all time, and I've played thousands over two decades... The game is like a super-enhanced version of Gyruss that takes place in William Gibson's cyberspace world (rendered in crisp high-res 640x480 at ultra smooth 60 frames per second), with hard hitting underground techno/trance music screaming from your speakers as you play. Rather than go into more detail myself, I'll just cut & paste an informative review that IntenseGaming used to have posted before they shutdown their site:
  19. Also if you try to actually use an ADAM printer these days your neighbors will probably think you are firing off heavy machine gun rounds and call the police.
  20. The explanation for this is that your friend was doing the voice himself when you weren't looking! <-- mystery solved after all these years. Space Fury was a fun cart for the Colecovision, that you could also play on the ADAM (as with all Colecovision games). But there was no ADAM-specific Digital Data Pack (tape) version as far as I know. The arcade original had speech though.
  21. Yes I use this technology and it is excellent for DVDs, while still allowing a great set for gaming. Also it is nice to be able to switch to high res widescreen for widescreen arcade games like The Ninja Warriors and Sagaia in MameoX
  22. Well to play the tape (digital data pack) version of Coleco ADAM "Super Dragon's Lair" you need the printer, system console and keyboard/controllers that make up an entire ADAM. It's a good game, btw. Some of the best graphics in the entire ADAM game library. I never owned a disk drive, and never even knew they released those games on disk. So I'd say the disk drive is rare indeed. A cheaper option for you would be to store the game in a safe place somewhere, and get the ROM for the game and emulate it. I just recently got a nice ADAM emulator running on my Xbox, and am playing Super Subroc on a flatscreen Sony WEGA through high quality Component Video No long tape loading times either... and no awful Coleco controllers to give me blisters!
  23. Nanotek Warrior is decent. Some good techno tunes are the highlight, imo. It is noteworthy that hardcore game-god Julian Rignall had a hand in tuning its gameplay however (cool fact fyi). So it is worth buying, just keep your expectations moderate. N2O: Nitrous Oxide is an underrated gem of the genre. I recommend it 100% Only surpassed by the ultimate masterpiece of the genre... IS: INTERNAL SECTION <-- like Gyruss, Rez, Tempest all combined x100
  24. That's very wrong... Although I can see why some people would be confused by the name. Tempest 3X on the Playstation is actually a spin-off variant of the PC version of Tempest 2K, and not the Nuon version of Tempest 3K. As a Tempest fan myself, I can recommend Tempest 3X as being a great game in the series (except for some bugs sadly). T3X's gameplay nicely blends together elements from the original Tempest (like classic spikes), with the majority of T2K's gameplay, and has great looking enhanced visuals. Don't pass it up if you see it selling cheap.
