Wow.  Did't jump on the thread again for 24 hours ... and had to put on my slippers, set my alarm clock and make a full pot of coffee to catch up.

Yeh.  I smash JP fairly hard at times, on a jovial note mind you.  Definately a harmless fanboy that deserves more than a shoebox that runs off a 12 volt battery.

The news that Rob Wyatt hasn't been paid for 6 months comes personally as no surprise whatsoever.   As many of you who know me personally remember, I ran Legacy Engineering, well I was hired by Fred Chesnais to develop the Gene Simmons Axe Controller for guitar hero.  I spent 6 months and put over $90k out of my own pocket to develop the controller and have several golden sample prototypes made.   I was given a song and dance about getting royalties and such... well in June of 2008 I had to be admitted to the hospital for emergency open heart surgery.   I suffered a severe heart infection and had to go in for emergency heart surgery.  While I'm in the hospital, Freddy calls me and desperately asks if I could get the prototypes out to him, he needs to get them to Gene Simmons immediately as Gene is going to put them on his show and announce them.  So I had someone get them packed and shipped to Freddy, well he took them, they never went to Gene, they went right to Freddy's friend up in Canada at Beat Street, they reverse engineered the samples (since they weren't protected yet and everything was on development boards inside) and had cheap knock offs made.   He told me that they couldn't get on the show in time, after several weeks of recovering I finally called to get the status on the project, he said it was canceled which was a lie.   He ended up bankrupting my consultancy and I was out all of my investment, my prototypes and royalties...  sounds like he basically has done the exact same thing to Rob Wyatt.   Freddy is a serial scumbag.

BTW, notice how while they dangled all of the eye candy, they put in a small disclaimer --- the first units won't have any OS... that's because there isn't one, Atari also quietly announced that they have dropped development of their own custom linux distro.   There won't be an OS, they'll give you your box and you're on your own.   You of course could've just bought any of the Ryzen dev boards that are currently out there now and gotten what Atari is pushing for $300...

I've been a cop almost 18 years, and I can vouch for this.  I'd like to think that having people lie to my face constantly on a daily basis has tuned my b.s. meter pretty well.

Once I catch someone in their first lie, I have a hard time buying the rest of the story.  Atari told way too many whoppers early on to be credible.   Showing pictures faking people playing the system and later backtracking and saying it was "For illustrative purposes" is about as credible as someone saying "These aren't my pants" when you find 20 grams of crack in their pocket.

Hah. Yeh.  As you well know Ag, our BS meters are pretty accurate if we can see the person of interests face, even better the whole body, whilst they're talking bollocks.  In relation to the Ataco saga, almost all of the data and talky-talky is coming to us via text, hence the aforementioned "meters" don't work anywhere near as well.

Thanks for the links.  The whole behavioral side in this debacle, has me genuinely interested.  Being in law enforcement for over 20 years, definitely gives you insight into the human psyche and eventually you become somewhat of a backyard behaviorist persay.  I'm au fait enough with the subject to understand the general reasoning of the pigeons behaviors with Ataco & the Shoebox, as do a lot of others here, as can be seen on the recent replies to my query to Tidus.

Although I want to hear his opinion, the query was obviously going to get others to chime in.  Good to hear other opinions, especially from people who know a hell of a lot more than me.

It was also meant to show the numpties, like Werner and associates, that we are a lot more open here and think a lot more deeper than their reddit cultist shit show ... and not a bunch of whinging trolls.

Even if it does fail I will be ok with that as I my other intended use for the console will be booting into Windows or Linux and using those OS'es to run any video game emulator I want.  Having a system that interfaces easily with my TV and those 2 Atari VCS controllers (classics and modern) is going to make playing old school games a joy.  Best to have another usage scenario for the console and I do certainly have mine and it will fit the bill well.

For me this is the perfect retro gaming emulation device and is going to be a nice and flexible solution for playing all those old games on my TV

Tidus, if I may make an observation and ask some questions?  Just honestly shooting the shit, as I'm genuinely curious to hear from certain backers perspectives (such as your own).   I'm obviously covering ground that has been flogged to death on our thread, but it's needed to answer my simple queries.

Your stating you want the VCS for retro gaming and to be more powerfull that a Pi.  Great.  Do you own a laptop?  If not, then my answer won't be as relevant as what I'm enquiring, however still could be.  If you do, why don't you just HDMI plug your lappy into your TV, set it up with any OS you like, then set-up all your retro emulators to your hearts content.  By a USB to DB9 adapater (as an adapter example.  Not expensive) and use original controllers for an original feel.  Or, buy a good quality retro styled bluetooth gamepad, like the awesome 8bitdo N30 or F30 pro's.  More powerfull and a completely open ended (sandbox) set-up, without spending $300 on the VCS.

If you don't have a laptop, again you can get some kickass little lappys for $300 and under, which again would be better than what Atari SA are stating, at this time.  Oh, and upgradeable.

I could maybe understand getting the "unconsole", if it was a console competing with the other big boys and had exclusives, including the other niceties and niches of the big consoles, but for a use to play retro games is just so confusing.  Did you expect more from the Atacobox VCS, but have now resigned to the fact that it's not, so you'll just use it for retro fillanderings?

With that in mind, surely you can understand why this thread is 850+ pages.  If the VCS was real (after 2 years), running , showing huge potential, with exclusives and something different to other systems or at least on par or more ... this thread may still be 850+ pages, likely praising Freddy and the teams efforts, definately throwing around innocent memes and jabs at others and ourselves, people getting pulled into line (Dah.  It is the interwebs ;)) definately throwing up debate, indepth chat on the company itself and its finances .. yadda yadda.  What's your answer on why so many pigeons backers are defending Atari SA so vehemently, after all this time?

    Cheers.

My Telegames PAL Night Stalker was also a pain to put into my Vader as well, from memory.  Maybe a slightly thicker cart tongue, or more likely the tongue edge not tappered enough to push open the cart slot dust protector.  I just turned the Vader upside down, which usually has the dust protector open up, because of wear to the dust mechanism after all these years.  A bit of a gentle wriggle and it went in.  FYI.  Same fix for carts with broken dust protector activation legs.

#EDIT#  Actually.  I'm wrong.  I remember the carts dust protector activation legs were the exact same length as the cart tongue.  The tongue should be recessed back further (like in other carts), to allow the activation legs to open the dust protector BEFORE the tongue enters the cart slot.  That's why I turned the Vader upside down, eliminating the use of the activation legs.

This game to be honest isn't that tough to Max Out, however it does practice.

The game levels are not random which is great for getting through the tough Stages.

The other thing to understand that the Majority of the Game-play involves playing through Stages 13 to 20 Over and over again.

Stages  1 - 12 you will only play ONCE. The best way to practice is to utilize the GAME SELECT function

    Game 1 : Starts at Stage 1

    Game 2 : Starts at Stage 5

    Game 3 : Starts at Stage 9

    Game 4 : Starts at Stage 13

Game 5 : Random Stages are Set

Once you can complete 1 -12 fairly well, Start practicing 13 - 20 as 90% of the game is played here.

Ive attached an Older run to show what I mean about the Stages

Its a Great game ! I would love to see all competitors earn the Patch in this round!

    Good Luck!

I've never used the game select on this title.  I'm usually a stickler for reading entire manuals, but must have not on this one or purely forgot.

Thanks for the tip Nads 👍
